30" monitor or 2 smaller ones - Page 3

i still play on my 15.5'' laptop tiling 15 tables lolz. been thinking about getting a 30'' setup, but it's so much more comfortable laying back on my comfy chair rather than slouching at a desktop

Mexicos supply is kinda limited and many are imported and overpriced, for example a 27" monitor with a resolution above 1920x1080 will be at least $1k, im guessing a good 30" should be over 1.5k.

In fact i think ive decided to go for dual widescreen 23"s, i just saw those (in mex) at like $190 each.


I know i can afford to use 30"s as wallpapers for my room but its not the point, i like to keep a healthy balance in my expenses, i think its very easy to get carried away, im buying a 2nd and top-end computer for these monitors so im spending about 2k in the whole thing its not like im nitting it up badly

Jesus christ I just checked shipping cost on amazon...$30 per shipment plus $7 per lb for electronics...a 27" monitor had $219 in shipping cost when the monitor is only $680...fucking 30% extra cost for shipping is insane. Especially when its free shipping to 48 states

I cant see how buying top notch equipment for your job, that has made you rich and is where you spend a lot of your time, is a wasteless and carried away expense.

if you can get resolution that high on a 27 its prob slighly better then a 30', I just say 30' because most monitors dont have resolution that high they genereally peak at 1920x1080 which is not so good

I was gonna make a thread on this, but I figured it would be simpler to just bump this thread.

You can buy Yamasaki Catleap monitors off eBay for about $300. These are 27" IPS monitors with 2560x1440 resolution. You probably haven't heard of the brand, but that's because it's a Korean brand that isn't sold in the US. In Korea, these kinds of monitors retail on average for $250, as opposed to the $800+ in the US.

Few notes:
-All the 27"-30" super high res monitors actually use LG flat panel displays. The Catleap has the same panel as 27" iMacs.
-The monitors additional features are mostly nonexistent. The cheapest one will simply have a DVI port, audio in, volume and brightness. No HDMI port or advanced features.
-Because there aren't really any inputs from the last point, the monitor is good for gaming as it won't have that much input lag.
-It comes with one of those Asian 2 pronged plugs. If you live in the US, you'll have to have a spare power cord. Any will do.
-You need to make sure your graphics card can support the monitor. The sellers usually have a breakdown of what popular cards will work with this monitor. Also, don't expect to run them off your laptop.
-Some people have had issues with the DVI-D dual link cable that comes with it. Mine works, but if yours doesn't, you have to make sure that the DVI cable you buy is a DVI-D dual link cable. I bought one off Amazon that I thought would work because it was advertised as DVI-D Dual link, but a few of the negative reviews stated it did not support the high resolution. It didn't work and I just ended up using the one that came with the monitor.
-It comes with a swivel stand that isn't the best of build quality. Personally I think it's fine.

Just search "catleap" on ebay and you'll find a bunch of listings. Supposedly "green-sum" is the seller most people like buying from. I got it from him and it got here in 4 days with no problems.

I have one as well, portalion brand. Paid 10 dollars extra for the 0 dead pixel guarantee.

Pretty satisfied with it, although it bleeds light terribly around the corners when image is supposed to be black. Hardly noticeable except for at startup, or when watching a movie with a scene that is incredibly dark.

Im not sure how good these are for gaming. Yes there is no input lag beacause they only offer one input (dvi) but the re fresh rate is capped at 60hz and you might get less. I think if playing an action fps like battlefie.ld 60 Hz monitors compared to 120hz monitors may seem laggy/ghosted.

Personally I think the price of these monitors more than makes up for any cons in these monitors.

refresh rate response time are two independent values. Refresh rate has nothing to do with ghosting, that is simply the rate at which the video card sends a signal to the monitor. Response time is how quickly the monitor can change the colors of pixels on screen. Running at 60hz vs 120hz will have no impact on ghosting. However having a 2ms vs 6ms monitor will.

Refresh rate (measured in Hertz) is not the rate at which the video card sends a signal to the monitor
but the amount of individual and complete frames the screen is capable of producing every second.

Response time (measured in seconds) is the amount of time it takes an individual pixel to turn from a state
to the requested state.

What you might be able to read from that is that they measure the same thing my dear, it's just that when they needed to find a way to
measure the refresh rate of LCDs it did not seem appropriate to use the same method (and measurement) as they use for CRT screens.
