Liquidpoker Sunday Weekly
On this Christmas Eve, many donkament participants were probably enjoying the company of family and the comfort of warm meals. But 15 degenerate competitors came together on the virtual felt of PokerStars to compete for fame and prizes in the weekly Liquidpoker Sunday tournament. As a special prize for the holidays, a $50 bounty was placed on my head! And as we often see in the Liquidpoker tournament, Nazgul busted out on the bubble to bring us to the final table with the following lineup:
Seat 1: Evergrey (3780 in chips)
Seat 2: yodrak (1390 in chips)
Seat 3: wired_c4 (4300 in chips)
Seat 4: curtinsea (2870 in chips)
Seat 5: Matt98568 (3600 in chips)
Seat 6: Tecknowledgy (1400 in chips)
Seat 7: TbHackworth (1380 in chips)
Seat 8: drsthundza (2550 in chips)
Seat 9: AngelGarciaM (1230 in chips)
Action when the final table began was furious, and stacks were flying all about. pinbaLL (Evergrey) was the first to take a significant blow, as he couldn’t catch the ace he called for against curtinsea’s KK. Not quite finished, pinbaLL continued his all-in madness, but was unable to draw out against the KJs of Matt98568, and finished in 9th place.
I had been very conservative for sometime, and I could feel tension growing among my opponents as they eyed my stack and the $50 bounty like hawks. Knowing they wanted to take me out badly, I managed to get AngelGarciaM in as a huge dog, and took him out in 8th place. My opposite, the most active player at the table, WhyYouKickMyDog (wired_c4) got his chips in the middle in a dominated position and was crippled as he doubled up Trey (TbHackworth).
PokerStars had obviously rigged the tournament against me, as my luckbox malfunctioned at precisely the right time so that WhyYouKickMyDog could double through me on a shortstack. But Lee soon remembered the awesome card I made for him, and reactivated my luckbox as I won a large three-way preflop all-in to double through Matt98568 and eliminate WhyYouKickMyDog in 7th place in the same hand.
Next to fall was yodrak in 6th place, as curtinsea’s pair of aces was too much for yodrak’s pair of queens. Complaints of rigging were incessant, from me of course, when my TPTK was crushed by Matt98568’s set of sixes and he doubled through me. But vindication was not far away, as the next time I took AKs to the felt, it was to eliminate thundza (drsthundza) in fifth place, bringing us to the money bubble.
Hungry for the bounty on my head, TbHackworth played conservatively and tried to take strong hands in against me. Unfortunately for him, his pair ran into my overpair and my hand held up to bust him in fourth place.
With the bubble now burst, the bounty on me was still out and everyone was guaranteed money. But I was the first to draw blood in the battle for the trophy, as I snapped off a check-raise by Matt98568 to move into a close second-place chip position. During three-handed play and from the start of four-handed play, I had terrorized my opponents. From the time the bubble began to the end of the tournament, I won 35 out of 76 (or 46%) of all pots played. And as is usually the case, that was largely due to the fact that I can command the deck like a Jedi, using the force to hit my flush draws for 15,000 chip pots. As a commanding chip leader, I had no problem getting Matt98568 all-in on a coinflip, which I somehow didn’t win (the site is rigged). My opponents were nearly equal in chips when they got into a huge confrontation, and curtinsea crippled Matt98568 with 77 against his 66.
Now on a very short stack, Matt98568 had to make a move, and was lucky enough to pick up a big hand! But his AJ couldn’t prevail over my K6, and he was eliminated in 3rd place for $30. As heads-up play began between me and curtinsea, he sat with 9,437 chips against my stack of 13,063.
Fortunately for me, I was able to check/raise what I felt very strongly was a pure continuation bet from curtinsea, and take down this 1,800 chip pot with only king high. Possibly frustrated with my aggression in this type of spot, I got curtinsea to push all-in over my next check/raise, when I had the best hand with top pair. No help came on the turn or river, and curtinsea was this week’s runner up, taking home $45. So I congratulate myself on this week’s tournament championship, and I will spend this week enjoying my $75 first-place prize.
