<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/7ba26a844a7d4acf44769bd572afe707.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">If there's anyone you wouldn't like to bet against, it must be Phil Ivey. He just won his second bracelet this year, and his 7th bracelet overall in yet another different structure. In the $2,500 Omaha 8-or-better/Seven-card Stud 8-or-better it still was no easy win for Ivey. He was one of the shortstacks coming into the final day (14 players left), and the second shortest stack coming into the final 9, but then the Phil Ivey Show began!
On a sick final table with Jon "PearlJammer" Turner as chipleader, Ivey managed to almost double up in the very first hand against Carlos Mortensen. However, this still left him with a relatively short stack. When it got down to 7, that was when Ivey's stack started to expand. He gained the chiplead for the first time. When it gets down to 3-handed play, it looks as though the three players were actually all able to take the bracelet. Carlos Mortensen even gained the chiplead for a short while, and Ming Lee also had a competitive stack, but (obviously) this was only half true.
First, Carlos Mortensen gets crippled by Ivey during Stud-8 when Ivey wins both the low and high after quickly calling with just ( ) , later he gets the decisive blow dealt by Ming Lee during Omaha-8, being all-in preflop with against Lee's . There's no help for Mortensen while Lee hits kings full of fours and Mortensen is out in 3rd place. Ivey and Lee are now heads-up, with Ivey holding a 1.8:1 chiplead. Still, it was no done deal, and Lee even got the chiplead, but in the end, there was just no stopping Ivey for his 7th bracelet. First Lee got crippled during Omaha-8, to place the decisive blow in Stud-8. Lee holds while Ivey has the remaining three queens for trip queens to win the bracelet, and another $220,538 . But again, his biggest winnings come from propbets. Not only does he get $200,000 from Daniel Negreanu, but he said he had a few other bets running as well! Betting against Phil Ivey must be one of the worst investments ever, some people never learn?
This time he even manages to put up a smile when showing the bracelet!
Final results: 1. Phil Ivey - $220,538
2. Ming Lee - $136,292
3. Carlos Mortensen - $89,342
4. Dutch Boyd - $61,919
5. Jon “PearlJammer” Turner - $45,237
6. Eric Buchman - $34,747
7. Tom Koral - $27,993
8. Peter Gelencser - $23,600
9. Steve Wong - $16,517 |

Ever heard of Omaha Hi/Lo? That's the same. It's played pretty often, not as often as No-Limit Hold'em, but still. 8-or-better means that both the high hand (so whoever has the best hand) as the low hand (if anyone has 5 cards of 8 or lower) gets half the pot. So if one player has A-A-K-K on a AKQ54 board and the other has K-J-6-3 without a flush, the first player wins half the pot with his best 5 cards: A-A-A-K-Q (2 aces from his hand), and the other player wins half the pot with a low hand: A-3-4-5-6. If there's no low-hand, the high hand wins the whole pot. |

There's a couple guys that have won 3 bracelets in a single year.. I know Hellmuth and Ivey both did this already. I wonder if there's anyone with 4, that'd be an insane record to set. |

No, I think he owns a bracelet in just about any game but Hold'em. Although he has won a S.H.O.E. bracelet, which includes Hold'em as well |
