Floofy - You mentioned getting a laser operation for your eyes. I've had it and everything went perfect, so if you want to know anything about it...
sure i want to know more about it
Yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing more about it. My eyes are getting fucked up as it is. I've heard "complications" can permanently damage your eyes?
LASIK wich is the most common (and outdated) way for laser surgery involves cutting with a tool named microkeratome the cornea in a circle shape right where the pupil is, they move it aside, appy the lasser, then slide it back in.
The thing is, the microkeratome cuts deep into the cornea where it never regenerates, so in some RARE cases an impact like an airbag or something directly into the eyes can dislocate the "flap" (as they call it) and that can turn into sever problems because if the flap gets wrinkles it can be a bitch to straighten out, sometimes with treatments and if you loose that "flap", you will need a cornea transplant.
LASEK its the same but the the "flap" is created by some solutions put in your eye and a much much swallower cut, so the cornea totally heals, however, LASEK takes a 1 o 2 days for total recovery and its a bit more "painful" in the recovery (itch etc).
Definitelly go for the LASEK if you want laser surgery, i am getting it done too.
lasek ain't creating a flap through solution - they just burn off the epithelial cells and hope that they grow back.
issues with loss of epithelial torsional strength aint the big issue with lasik variants (PRK/lasek/lasik/wavefront), it's more the preponderance of unintended side effects such as halos, contrast sensitivity, dry eyes, inconsistent vision, etc.
i'd rather get microkeratome'd than lasek'd or laser flap creation.
PRK is the ultimate in terms of actually smoothing out the surface of the cornea and is generally what they use to fix their mistakes. the diagnostic software at the moment pretty much sucks for certain conditions as there is no Z order assessment, they just plot X/Y and work backwards from an assumed corneal shape plotted against retinal depth, which is almost but not quite the same thing. they also guess about how you'll heal, plus there's the inevitable minor eye movement during treatment which will throw off the result a couple microns here and there.
lets go fucking mental la la la la lets go fucking mental lets go fucking mental lala la la

wat? where do they burn anything in this lasek operation
PS i know PRK is the best option but its very inconveniant since the healing period is kind of long and unconfortable
