goddamn 50nl

After my last blog post about how I am a busto but ready to rebuild, I started grinding a bit harder but as always, life gets in the way of things. Work made me travel, family things came up, downloaded Vampire the Masquerade, HOMM4, Battle for Wesnoth - games which took roughly 3-4 weeks worth of weekends. I did however to put in some hours at the casino which is always +ev but didn't make too much progress in terms of online poker. Black Friday came and passed, I snap panic withdrew my entire roll of 2k (which floated at this amount for a year or so due to low volume and just not improving). And hey, if the money's already in my bank, i might as well spend it to fix my pool pump and a shower leakage.

I just redeposited 500 bucks and i'm regrinding that shit. For reals. Again. Because i'm poor. I look back at the goals i set earlier this year, 10k by end of the year is still achievable but it'll need hard work. Nothing good comes *that* easy. My goal was to grind 10bi at 25nl, 10bi at 50nl and then crush 100nl.

That was last week. I've made my 10bi at 25nl, and made a few at 50nl.

Guess I'll try to update my blog montly / bi-monthly as a means to motivate myself (though i'm pretty pumped atm)

Because there isn't much to blog about.

I was really out of poker for a good 6-7 months when I started work. Starting a new job is always stressful for the first month or so, worrying about things like whether i'd be able to get along with work mates, other graduates, senior management etc etc. Finally settled in after 6 months and i feel more like a permanent fixture around the office. I'm planning to study for professional qualifications so that'll also drain a lot of my time. The pay is average but sustains my lifestyle so I was content with my situation. I managed to save a bit on the side while servicing daily spending. There is no need to grind poker when you get your first paycheck after a 5 year stint as a broke uni kid. It's like wut? so much monies!

Then I made a loan repayment for my parents debt. Suddenly all my savings were gone. I was a busto. The debt itself isn't substantial and since its with a family friend, it is basically interest free. Nevertheless, it is a debt I need to pay off. I think I can still manage to save a bit even after the annual payments but that amount only allows me to put a deposit on a place after 1.5 years and that also means no travel. Although I haven't been a big fan of travel so far, i believe i should see the world more and check out some places i've always wanted to visit like korea and japan. Would be awesome to go to GSL and watch the graken crush through while eating galbitang. I feel pretty uncultured amongst my workmates who have traveled the world, visited a lot of exotic places. But unfortunately i'm tied down at home as the sole breadwinner. When this became obvious to me, i felt hungry to grind poker. Hungry for more money. I've felt this hunger during the last year of uni when i had alot of time but no money. Thus the next logical step was to consider my options in making more money. I'm doing a 9-X job (where x is >=5, =<8723ad3453s94). Another job however cruisy will crush me. Being a graduate, my skill set is also quite limited. Poker was a pretty obvious answer. Live or online? Live is too time consuming and variance is too high. Not to mention i feel like shit after being down after a 2-3 hour losing session on Sunday with work to look forward to. Although that didn't stop me playing for fun/cash because my edge is so huge, i don't think it is viable if i dont run like a god when considering rake and "time charge". Online is better, more relaxed and i'm home, cutting down on travel time and it works around my schedule.

I think i've improved my game a bit, i.e. redline is steadily trending up after i plugged leaks, changed style, leveled up. Taking this shit FOR REALS. I'll have to grind my br a bit higher before taking shots at 100nl but i'm pretty sure i have an edge on 100nl. My mate was planning to move out to a place close to the office and we had planned to just grind after work / sleep over / work next day but i think that's been put on hold because his parents are against it. He's a 200nl reg taking shots at 400nl so can definitely learn from him. Too bad he's a nit. BR atm is ~2k having grinded from 100 bux left on my friends account over 3-4 months early last year before dicking around at 100nl for a few thousand hands then stopping completely.

I think my goals for this year are as follows:

1. 10k br by the end of the year (i.e. include rb)
2. Become a 200nl reg
3. Learn zvz, get into masters league and quit sc2

I shouldn't have a problem with volume since i'm motivated. I just need to keep the motivation up. Damn that grind house would have been awesome. These goals are pretty easy to achieve considering i'm awesome at poker.

Sup Lp,

Pretty simple question about stove - does it automatically discount cards from my opponents range based on my hand?

Example: I hold Aspades4spades, flop is 4d4c2c, and i click say i give my opponent A2 suited.

Will it only count 2 hand combos for A2 suited? specifically A2diamonds and A2heart? or do i have to manually unclick A2spades and A2 clubs on the right hand box?

Just a dumb question, want to make sure i'm using stove correctly!
