Last 30 days + heater
  edzwoo, Dec 07 2008

No losing sessions of NL50 and running at a sweet 8.5 BB/100. Above expectation of course.

Played 1200 hands today and went up 4 buyins. People were throwing money at me so fast I couldn't keep up with half my hands. It was awesome.

Here's my graph of NL25 + NL50 in the last 30 days. It looks so nice

NL50 vid + updates
  edzwoo, Dec 06 2008

1 hour 14 min session of me playing 9 tables of NL50 with no audio. I played two more sessions 4 tabling and trying to make a video there and voice recording it, but I ended up accidentally blowing both of them up . So yeah, short summary of the video:

  • Played 17/14, so pretty loose for a fullring player
  • Some nice calls with A high or 100th pair
  • Some horribly played hands (I can think of like 4 hands I butchered)
  • Getting stacked by rockman255 but seriously considering folding JJ on AJ2 (LOL)
  • Making a note on a fish that he limpraises KK, then the very next hand doubling him up when he limpminraised AA vs my JJ.
  • Making some reallllllly donkey looking plays, but I swear most of them had reasoning behind it. Ran hot and hit with all my semi-bluffs (c/c c/minraise w/ gutshot and hit on the river lololol)

Here's the link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4A433BJY

I was using driveway but my upload failed like 3/4 of the way through

Anyways here's the updates, I've been running sick hot for the last few days, and I also played like 100 hands of heads up where I went up a buyin. Whenever I get it all in with the best hand, it almost always holds, so no bad beats for me .

In my last two 4 tabling sessions, I decided to play 6max style in fullring, and although EV states otherwise, I really think it was really profitable. I was running like 36/28 at one table . People just fold to cbets sooooooooo much, and when the regs start peeling lightly on the flop, they just insta fold to any decent card for a double barrel. Maybe I should go back and play a little 6max.

A leak I've realized is that I sometimes try to put up a reasonable range for a 40vpip+ donk, but half of them are actually peeling the flops with random cards. So if a K turns I might see it as a good double barreling card, but they actually peeled with some weird K6 or something. Some of the really weak tight sort of ones might play postflop very straightforward, but some of them simply can't be bluffed, and I try it anyways.

Anyways, here are some pics of my results:

Running at 7.5ptbb

Questions for NL50 vid
  edzwoo, Dec 04 2008

I just recorded a 1hr 14min vid of myself 9 tabling NL50 and I have a few questions:

1. Would anyone actually take the time to watch it and critique my play? (obv)
2. It's 2gb big but I'm a little afraid to compress the video because the tables are already at the smallest size, so it might make the bets or cards unreadable. Any suggestions?
3. Where could I host it?

Running good is...
  edzwoo, Dec 02 2008

...awesome! I think my hand reading skills, or at the very least putting my opponents in a category of weak, medium or strong hands has been very good lately. Of course with that and the combination of running 1 bi above expectation in each of my last two sessions, my confidence is at an all time high

I decided to try and open up my typical 12/9 game by raising a LOT more stuff on the button/cutoff/hijack. I also made looser calls vs regs and donks that I felt I could outplay postflop. I experimented with various lines that I wouldn't normally take to:

a. Potentially maximize value. Of course I probably took a few less optimal lines, but I figured it would be okay because...
b. Confuse the regs and give them bad reads (if they were paying attention at all)

Here's are the results:

Here's just a bunch of fun hands:

Second time in a row villain has done this to me, so I figure reraising him here is pretty automatic. If he calls I am definitely shoving any non-diamond turn.
+ Show Spoiler +

Donk. After his cbet and very quick shutdown on the turn, he has garbage like 100% of the time. $1 valuebet for lols and I'm calling any raise.
+ Show Spoiler +

Woohoo! Suckout! I was really just destroying this table and stealing like 100%, and this guy definitely realized it. This was like the fifth time in a row he 3bet me, so I called with the intention of getting it in with any piece of the flop. Obv he had the nuts pre but poker is ez.
+ Show Spoiler +

I felt I played this hand fine based on my reads, but my reads were off. I checked the flop because I felt the shorty was soooooooo likely to bet his entire range on there, whereas my cbet would fold out a lot of it. I felt if he invested any amount of money postflop, he'd just stick the rest in. Of course I had to get some value out of random pps or weaker Ks, but I definitely didn't expect KardinaalS to show up with THAT.
+ Show Spoiler +

Now that I look back at this hand, I really only fold out one hand in his calling range, which is AQ (MAYYYBE JQ as well). So I guess mathematically speaking, this was a bad double barrel. But regardless, his turn check seemed weak since it lasted like 2-3 seconds. Something like KQ probably thinks a little longer than that.
+ Show Spoiler +

Mistake on the river. Raffy's bet was just straight up weakness, and I incorrectly assumed overunder was just calling because of pot odds. I just did a small checkraise squeeze because I figured both of them were weak. After overunder called though, I figured his range only consisted of monsters. Eh, I leveled myself into thinking he could have Ax on the river though looking for value, combined with the fact that another 3 came up making the only set likely for him to have 44. Didn't expect JJ though.
+ Show Spoiler +

That bet just seemed so full of crap I figured I had the best hand, and even if I didn't, I had outs. Epic feel-out imo
+ Show Spoiler +

I figured this was a squeeze like 10000% of the time, so 4betting here seemed right.
+ Show Spoiler +

ez river
+ Show Spoiler +

Donkbet bluffed the flop a lot. I figured my hand was strong enough to be a bluff catcher for all three streets. the board ran out like total crap, but the reason I called him on the river is that he bet the turn pretty quickly. He then stalled on the river and shoved the rest of his chips in. The thing is, if he really had a 7, he would have def stopped on the turn to think about what to do with his open ender, likewise with the flush as well. Called and was delighted of course
+ Show Spoiler +

I'm considering making a video of one of my sessions in order to get some constructive criticism from some of you guys. GL at the tables.

November and today
  edzwoo, Dec 01 2008

November was probably the most important month in my poker career. I quit poker for a while and then came back after building up a roll just for amusement from the pennies again.

On November 5th, I really sought to improve my game and looked through all my hands to fix leaks. I also changed my game from being a weak tight, semi-solid player to a much more aggressive player.

A few key things I strongly believe changed my game that I didn't do before:

  • Putting my opponents on ranges based on their actions.
  • Paying attention to other people's betting patterns/timing.
  • Paying close attention to board texture and adjusting ranges.

    oh and

  • Not leveling myself with donks

Since I started doing well at NL25, I would take a step back and think about my play after each session. Sometimes I would have a winning session but knew I played like crap and just ran good. Sometimes I had killer losing sessions, but I felt very confident on how I played. I think that honesty with myself also helped me improve.

Of course that's not to say I'm a great player. I know for sure that I'm far from the best; heck, I'm only at NL50

Anyways, here's an update of my NL50 progress. In my typical 2-3 hour sessions, I haven't had a losing one yet :

And here's my November graph.

Great session
  edzwoo, Nov 27 2008

Thought I ended the session about break-even. Definitely wrong, ran at a nice 9ptbb and went up 3.5bi.

Some regs give me hard time, but I do believe I'm better than the majority of them. I know I have a lot of room to improve though, and I really want to. All of you people that are reading my blog right now, I would love it if you looked through my hands and commented on how badly/well I played them.

I will pretty much always respond to your comments with why I played that hand in a certain way, and will keep an open mind about it. Don't take it as me being defensive please .

NL50 shot
  edzwoo, Nov 25 2008

Stnd 6ptbb/100 session

Differences of this session to typical NL25 session:

  • People squeeze a lot
  • There are some really stupidly small stack sizes
  • 20bb shortstacks love to crai flop when there is a bet and a call (annoying)
  • Regs still suck
  • Quads are more common than sets

Notable hands of session:

$32.40 stack displaying SilverStar status probably means scared money amiright? His range probably had all sorts of 7x in there.

Good bluff out. He snap checked that river.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=575459

I love suited aces vs regs; they never suspect the flush.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=575467

I loved my value bet, but I hated the fact that he had a flush on the turn.

Sick value line. Actually I just forgot to cbet and improvised lol.

Lol four quads in one session:

Interesting hand:
25/5 over a small sample, but rockman says this guy is pretty weak tight.
