Grind is going great
bro, Oct 19 2010
Well, not really. But I'm getting a lot of volume.
I started filling out with €2.2's to be able to climb up in the leaderboard (it's €1-€5 levels). Right now I'm at 7th place, but if I keep this up I should be able to get the 4th spot for €500.
I'm quite busy in life right now so I don't really much spare time for blogging. I apologize for the low quality around here lately. It will get better within a week or so.
It seems like I'll have to postpone my Japan trip a bit. Next month I'll be looking for playing mostly €11's, with a much better deal. If I just put in enough games I should be able to stay abroad for quite a long time. Hopefully long enough to be able to avoid most of the winter here in Sweden. I'm so not looking forward to another 2 months of -20C....
Super Turbo S&G's - rake = rapes you?
bro, Oct 13 2010
I've seriously started believing that you simply can't keep up a decent ROI at shorthanded super turbo sit and go's. The outcome is just too random, meaning that you can't have enough edge in the long run to beat both the rake and the players.
All people I play against are worse than me. That's for sure. They have so many leaks in their games. Regulars are OK but nothing compared to players at Stars or Full Tilt. I haven't seen any regs who have a higher ROI than at max 1-2%.
So, I need to change site, or something. Because there's not enough single table tournament action in any other games than these super turbo shorthanded ones.
I'm stuck at Entraction for the rest of the month, though. I have this bonus I need to finish and I'm also kind of committed to the leaderboard. If I just get in a lot of volume I should be able to get 5th spot for €400. That's €600 guaranteed with my €200 bonus if I just keep playing (plus the rake-back I'll get). And I can even do it at the €1.1 level if I want to. Making that easy money when I basically have no bankroll I believe can't be matched by what other sites can offer me.
Blah, this is just a rant post. I'm taking tomorrow off and coming back for some serious grind on Friday when I get this week's rakeback.
Trial and error
bro, Oct 11 2010
I have probably underestimated the swings in super turbo sit and go's, a lot. After 105 games €10+€1, I'm stuck €275.
Being knocked out 5th and 6th more and the other positions speak for itself, I was running pretty damn bad. However, what I was finding the most different from the €5.5's I'm used to is that more people survive to the later stages, especially the nasty 250/500 level. Playing on those blinds with a starting stack of 1,500 and four people still in it will sure give you a lot of swings.
I believe there's not much you can do to affect these swings, just be aware of that they will be there and make sure you can afford them.
What I will do is go back down to €5.5 again until the rake race start and make sure I put in a lot of volume meanwhile to make sure I can afford playing at the €11 stake.
I've been working more on my approach/strategy for these sit and go's the last few days and there's some things I'd like to point out, but which I still have to test a little bit more. I'm hoping that I can give a long in-depth analyze of this gametype later this week.
11/10 in total:
55 €5.5's +€67.50
105 €11's -€275
Current bankroll: €263
€11's and rake race ikuzo~
bro, Oct 11 2010
I ended up having a busy weekend where I was trying to play at nights but didn't get much action so not many games were played.
9/10 - 38 games +€1
10/10 - 71 games +€69.50
11/11 - 49 games +€80.50
I'm reporting today's result early because I have decided to move up to the €11 level. There's a rake race starting on NoiQ this Saturday (16th) going on for 15 days (31th), in which I believe I can rake in a decent prize if I just put in a serious amount of volume.
Besides the rake race there's also the Entraction Sit & Go leaderboard which has already started for the medium stakes level (€10-€30). Because of that I should start playing €11's today already to try catch up with the other players.
My goal is to keep playing about 100 games per day until Saturday when the race starts, in which I'm aiming at playing 3000 games in 15 days. By doing this I hope to make at least €2,500 in total from all promotions they are running during these 15 days. If I'm doing well I should also be able to make at least €1,000 profit from the games I'm playing.
Pretty sweet for grinding low stakes sit and go's. Let's just hope I have enough time and motivation to keep up this volume.
The bankroll is currently at €540.
Well, today sucked

Exploiting low stake sit and go's
bro, Oct 07 2010
Now a week has past since I started playing again. The results I guess have been OK, however it feels like not much is happening and I was kind of believing it would be easier to beat these games. I'm of course aware of variance and all that but I do have to question my own play every day while playing.
I believe my strategy for this kind of sit and go's is good. It was quite a long time since I was doing single table tournaments, but I was playing a lot of multi table ones last year and these super turbo singles are basically all about pushbot play, which isn't that hard to pull off in a kind of balanced way.
Since this is low stakes though I shouldn't just stick to what is the proper way to play theoritcally. There's tons of weak players to whom I should adapt my strategy. I've started doign some observations and this is what I've come up with so far:
- Tighten your range when is villain opening/pushing, since most players at low stakes are way too passive
- You can easily get away with being more aggressive at the bubble
- Pushbot play should start when average stack is around 15 big blinds
I'll be thinking about more ways to abuse the lower level players weaknesses, my head is kind of empty right now. I was just thinking I could bring this up to reach out to you guys reading the blog, giving me some ideas of how to exploit players at low stake sit and go's, instead of just focusing on playing game theoritcally correct in every situation.
So, yeah, my bros, do you have any ideas?
Today: 107 games -€18.50
ポーカー 伝記
bro, Oct 06 2010
I got into poker around six years ago, playing homegames and watching WPT/WSOP like most of you bros. Since I was not 18 yet I started playing on free money accounts in fake names, going through the risk of losing my entire bankroll by chipdumping to friends whenever I wanted to withdraw my winnings.
One day this was going to bite me in the arse. I was using another faked account with the $50+$25 free money deal at PartyPoker, finding myself on the final table in a $33 tournament. Somehow I ended up winning this for a $7.5K profit. I tried to chipdump most of it to my friends, some of it getting stuck after getting denied by the support who realized something was up and some of it being lost trying to somehow beat midstakes levels, despite my actual limited knowledge of the game.
Anyhow, I managed to withdraw a couple of thousand which gave me a nice bankroll to start with. I started grinding NL$50-NL$100 on European sites and didn't really win any money in my first year. A big failure considering how easy the games were back then.
It really took me until early 2008 - when I had already moved out from my parents and gotten my own place, paid from poker winnings - until I managed to start beating midstakes. I rushed up in stakes and was at NL$2K at the beginning of August when the worldwide financial crisis started and when the "poker boom" seriously started declining at the same time.
At this time I had already booked myself up with trips abroad for the rest of the year. Starting out by going to Asia and Macau for the Asian Poker Tour, then a stop in South Africa for a tournament in Johannesburg, before going back home again for a couple of weeks and then leaving for a three months trip to Japan.
I continued doing quite well but my economy got crippled by a huge downswing and my baller lifestyle so during 2009 I was mostly playing staked, while still traveling all over the place and not really making any profit from poker, finding myself pretty much busted by the end of the year.
When 2010 started I decided that if I hadn't managed to find my way back from low stakes to NL$1K by the end of August I would stop playing poker full time and dedicate my time for getting a job or studying.
My mission failed and here I am, an almost broke 21 year old with zero education and no real job experience. I was going to start studying this fall but I've been keeping it on hold because of a new project I've been involved with, not wanting to be tied up and be able to leave for whatever this project will need me to do.
At the moment it's still at the stage where time can only tell how it will go and how my life will look like the next upcoming year, so I've just been slacking with some SC2 and hanging out with my bros until now.
Unfortunately slacking won't give me any income whatsoever so to be able to have any sort of freedom in life and do what I feel like doing at the moment I'm back at the poker tables, probably not full time, but kind of part time until something else will come up, just to make sure that I can avoid having to stay in Sweden for another two months of -20°C.
Today's result:
200 games -€30
自己紹介
bro, Oct 05 2010
After have been on a long poker break I started over again from scratch the other day. I was doing my routine check to see if I had left any money in my poker accounts, realizing that I had a lot of VIP points on Entraction. With these I could play 30 €5.50 sit and go tournaments, which I managed to turn into €264.50 and I then had a new little bankroll to play with. Realizing the games were soft and that I could get a pretty sweet deal at this site I decided to give poker a try again.
I've been spending a lot of time in Japan the last three years but it was now almost a year since I got back from my last trip. With a friend of mine heading there on a three months trip this fall I've been wanting to go back more than ever. However, since I haven't been playing poker, instead dedicating most of my time playing SC2 and hanging out with my bros, I won't really be able to afford going back to Japan. Time to hit the grind again.
I'll be playing €5.50 shorthanded turbo sit and go's for a month. My goal for October is to play at least 100 games a day and hopefully keep my ROI on at least 5%, which will give me a profit of about €2,000 this month. With that I'll be looking for booking my flight to Japan then keep on grinding until around the third week of November when I'll be leaving for Tokyo.
My stats so far this month:
1/10 - 49 games +€49
2/10 - 132 games +€34
3/10 - 100 games -€60
4/10 - 100 games +€130
5/10 - 100 games +€40 (2 MTT's -€16.50)
Total
481 SnG's +€176.5 (+6.67% ROI)
2 MTT's -€16.50
Bonus +€165.50
Current bankroll €358.50
I'll be doing daily updates where I'll be talking more about my background and what's up in my life besides grinding low stakes sit and go's.
