Update Time
  punix, Mar 06 2014

It has been awhile since my last update but there was not much to say.
I tried to improve and was pretty consistently winning now over a 10k sample with also some rungood and quickly boosted my BR to $150 and took some shots at nl5 (as you have seen in the hands that I posted).
Lately my hands got some more comments and some more attraction. Thanks alot for all your input on them guys!
My shots have not been going too well and were kinda mixed with some bad spots, unlucky situations and all dat shizzle. After 3-4 BE sessions and 1 loosing and 1 winning session, I caught up in 2 loosing sessions to trop a total of 10 BI's and dropping my BR back to $100 (probably should have moved down again far earlier than just at $100 but yeah...).
Anyway Iam now back at nl2 and trying to grind my way up, yet again!

Got a stacking offer for a NL5 "tryout" and then get staked into NL10 if it works out! Discussed it also with you guys here (thanks lemon for your thoughts) and declined it after getting the contract because it basically states that all losses are on me (because they always could claim I missplayed situations or whatever and then I would have to go for full makeup) and they are just staring and had 2 coaches w/o any real references and not really being available in skype for 4-5 days. Overall impression was not so great. So I decided to go with an Iveyleague Sub and learn, study and move up on my own and then maybe trying to seek out staking/coaching in a bit higher stakes.

Graph of my NL5 shot:

My ugly total graph to day:

And for the lulz my total graph with SD and non SD values (god my SD value sucked huge monkeyballs in first 100k hands and still does but got better as you can see)

Update in teh update (Inception baby!!) - Todays results at NL2 (at least this level I seem to beat now consistently):

Cheers!

The Tap is leaking
  punix, Feb 13 2014

It has been a short time since my last blog post but I have played alot and Iam highly motivated.
Why am I already updating? I think such a blog is a very nice opportunity to do alot of self reflection on yourself and your play, while even may getting some helpful comments from more experienced users. Objective self reflection and learning from mistakes is the key to success.
I definetly have to do an analysis about my game play and have to reflect it objectively.

After my last blog post, I went to a little downswing, but recovered very nicely after thinking again about my play!
After going to a new bankroll peak, I went on a huge downswing again and yet it looks like I did not fully recover from it eventhough the last 12k hands have been kinda akward (my all-in EV basically stayed above $30 and was at some points even peaking at $40 but my net winnings have gone down): I was running alot of 2nd nuts into 1st nuts situation where you could not do soo much about it. Anyway, Iam not here to cry about this! Its normal and it happens in poker everyday somewhere.

I know I can play "solid" (compared to the standart NL2 level) and win on that stake if I play correctly, but at some points I always seem to forget how to play my "A-game" and mess it up with my old loosing style. I take some bad beats, mix in some bad plays etc. Think everybody has been there.
When I remind myself on what do to better I almost asap do better. That's why I want to write down and think about what I'am still doing wrong (of course there will be alot of things that I do wrong), so that I can go back and read it and might even get some comments (as stated above) about it, which could help immensely.

Played FR and 6m mixed so lets go with some Stats and review them:

Starting with the general stats:

- My FR VPIP might be a little bit too high but should not be completely off. Maybe the VPIP/PFR ratio is also a little bit too small.
- I should fold more to 3bets! 50% seems too low!!
- My old problem is still there (ofc I included all my hands: the newer sessions look in general better in that way): WTSD too high and especially W$SD way too low!
- My W$WSF seems very, very high or?? I should probably give up way more flops than I actually do.
- I should CBet less!
- I steal a little bit too often and fold to less against steals!

Positions: FR

Positional view seems okayish imo. The only thing I find a bit "strange" is that I have way more hands EP than on CO/BTN. I mean having more than CO/BTN is okay but not soo much more or?
Eventhough I open BTN 3x more. But as one can see on the VPIP/PFR: I often fold the BTN if it has been raised before me. I guess this is a leak?!
Also my CO opening can be a little wider.

Positions: 6max

Still my CO opening range should be wider! But also the sample size is smaller, so less significant.

Filtered Holecards that showed the most -$: FR

Filtered Holecards that showed the most -$: 6max

Also here the significane drops quite hard but am I overrating hands like AQo, KJs, KJo ? Looks a bit like I do. Especially AQo!!
I guess thats mostly because I often call 3b with AQo. I should stop doing that!

If anyone has additional thought or comments to it, they are well appreciated!

finally making some progress at nl2 low stakes
  punix, Feb 02 2014

Sup guys,

After creating this thread how much tactic do you need in nl2? u know that I already burned 3 bankrolls for nl2. I was very frustrated and like some ppl stated in this thread if I can not make profit at nl2, I definetly should consider quitting poker. So I evacuated the rest of my roll (which was something like $20 from my intitial $40 roll) and thought about quitting poker and leaving it behind (as I stated in the thread).

But there were several things that kept me hanging on and thinking about:
First off, I really like and enjoy poker (but of course i dont like burning away money for nothing). I like the competition and what I like even more is the fact that Poker is soo much more about you against yourself and its such a nice, balanced "solo" game. In fact poker trains you also some very useful skills like patience, endurance, willingness and dedication. As Iam lacking patience in "rl", I thought that playing poker is also a nice challenge for myself to gain more skills in patience and keeping calm. Therefore, I could not just leave Poker behind but obviously I needed help and could not go on like I did before (eventhough my VPIP/PFR/3b were kinda okay I was loosing way too fast).

I searched around on 2p2 and found a thread about "Crushing the Microstakes" from blackrain and purchased his "book" which also gives you access to his "private forum". I read the book in 1day: It was nothing special tactic wise but it opened my eyes a little that I have to keep more track of my opponent type, intiative and things like this. I really liked the book and it highly motivated me and Iam definetly recommending it to any new player that wants to play nl2. Also blackrain seems to be quite a nice guy that trys to help out alot with his huge microstake xp in his forums. So once again I reloaded a $40 roll to my PS acc and tryed to beat NL2.

Through Crushing the Microstakes, I switched from 6max to FR. Of course I can not go from busto to robusto in 1day by just reading 1book that did not even teach me soo many new things but I kept improving and reread the book several times and added more microstake books.

It started off quite well but I had some tilt issues where i kept burning away all the buyins that I won over 3-5k hands in just 100hands. I also noticed that my WTSD value is way too high and therefore my W$aSD was too low. I worked hard on fixing tilts and nitting up more PF that I don't get too often into too marginal situation and folded more and more on flop, turn. Iam still not quite there but my very last sessions had the WTSD and W$aSD values that I wanted to achieve.
My winnings improved and Iam getting more confident. I want to work on my game to improve it everyday. I guess I should also start posting hands here!
I played mostly zoom FR which seems to fit me much more than 6max games, eventhough I definetly want to work on my 6max game aswell. I noticed that I feel a little bit overrun in 6max since there is just more action going on with 3b/4b, cb.

Why am I writing now a blog about this (since it mostly will not really interest anyone of the mid-high stakes players)? The answer is simple. Every now and then some new players arrive here as well that want to start at 2nl and are struggling like I did before and then you also just hear everybody saying "uhh todays game got tough so you have to dedicate a lot to it". New players can easily get frustrated and get the feeling that they can not make it. But of course at 2NL there are soo many dumb players pretty much anyone can win at this stake but even at 2nl you have to work on your game and attitude towards the game. But it can pay off! Crushing the Microstakes really helped me out getting into the right mindset and watching out for the right stuff, so if there are people out there struggling at these lolomicrostakes you should read this book!

I hope in the longrun I can move up and improve and post some hands here! So I hope you will still hear something from me every now and then.

So far, Punix
