a TON more fish than weekday afternoons just shipping me money in ridiculous spots. but I lost 4 or 5 flips AIPF in a row, and set of 9s < KK. lots of aggro players 3betting and 4betting all the time too.

return to poker, 50NL and 100NL
  requiem, Oct 01 2009

haven't played since April, been playing dota since then. I d/l'd FTP, HEM, and got ready to grind some 25NL but to my surprise I found 2.9K on my account. It was like finding $5 in your laundry, cept a lot better.

So I played 50NL for a few days to get my groove back, my vpip going from 15/13 on the first day to 23/20 as I got more comfortable and used to poker again.

Today, I took a NL100 shot since my BR was building up quite nicely. It went really really well. I played 10 hours for 5300 hands and I'm fucking tired as fuck. Here's graphs and a few hands:

NL50 first few days and NL100 today, ignore the NL5 was messing around with a friend

check/calling for a buyin on the river with top pair

5.5buyin pot, ship it
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/750001

I was running 24/21 at nL100 with 8% 3bet. so yeah, just going to keep trying to get better and become a nl100 reg by studying, going over marked hands, watching videos.

edit: blooper hand, I ship A-hi into ...... lulz

a degen\'s story tl;dr
  requiem, May 11 2008

i'm a degen.

the short of it: i ran up 800 to 35K and lost it all on a combination of HSNL + blackjack. the long version continues below:

in late december i life tilted my $1000 stake after finishing finals at 400NL HU; coulda walked away with more than $2K but the other guy's bankroll killed me in the end, due to the high variance nature of HU. so the clear play here was to get a job and grind my staker's money back the good ole' fashioned way right?

wrong. i immediately applied for a credit card and loaded $800 onto the cake network, playing 50NL. it was all dandy at first but the degen within me started taking 1 buyin shots at 100nl, then it became 200nl, then it became 400, then 600nl, then before i knew it, I was getting c/r'd huge with AA on Q-hi rag board button vs blinds. I called and he continued on blank turn, I said fuck it and shipped it in vs his obvious set. but he had Q8o and i took down a 3.8k pot.

after that day i decided to 'play within my means (lol)' and go to 400nl. there was this sick maniac raising 30bb with ATC and going AIPF almost every hand. I lost a few AK vs his 34s and was about to commit suicide because I was down to like 400. i gave it one more try and got it allin vs him for almost a 2K pot, AA vs 88. the flop came 8xx and i was ready to go downstairs to the kitchen and grab the largest knife i could but the turn was a godly Ace.

from then on i built up a sizeable roll, but i was stupidly blowing my bankroll on blackjack, cashouts, and 5KNL HU. i blew a few K here and there on Stars and FTP and before I knew it, I was in debt. true degen stylez.

i loaded 500 a few days ago, on credit no doubt, and am really trying hard to grind with PROPER BANKROLL MANAGEMENT. because it doesn't matter how good at poker i think i am and how often i get it in good, variance will eventually kill me if i keep playing with fuckin 3 buyins or my entire BR on one table.

so i've grinded 25nL for about 3-4 days now, and believe me that's a huge accomplishment for me because I usually busto or run up a large roll within one day. I took down 2nd in a rakeback freeroll today for a nice score of $1325 (although 1st was $2150 and I went out on this: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442749) and i'm hoping to steadily build my BR now at 50nl and beyond!

starting the 25nl grind
  requiem, Oct 22 2007

a lil' background on me i'm an econ major and have played poker on and off since high school $5 buyin games (the loose ass ones with ridiculous .25/.50 blinds). pre-leg poker was pretty good to me and i made a bit of money but after cashouts, i'd shitty-BR the hell outta the remainders at high limits.

this trend continued post-leg as i'd make "i'm bored today i think i'm gonna play poker" deposits of like $200, grind some microstakes until i started running bad, and then shitty-BR everything on higher limits. i've decided to put a stop to this horrible bankroll management curse by implementing the following plan:

1) deposit $500 on ftp and grind 25nl for a FAIRLY long while
2) not move up ridiculously prematurely when i run bad. or good. or ever.
3) profit$$$

i hope that by making this blog, the self-affirmation of the posts or whatever the fuck will keep my shitty-BR ways in check.
