i transferred $300 bucks to cake mostly just to help out milkman, but turns out this is one of the juiciest sites ever. the games are not as populated but the players are totally clueless. the regs have a ton of leaks and give me like 0 trouble. the fish are so bad but they somehow end up with huge stacks because the regs just never vbet properly against them but love to pay them off with crap. every night i've played multiple buyins deep with fish who donkbet 4x the pot on the river and fold to my shove for like 10bbs more 200bbs deep lol. given the 33% rakeback + deposit bonuses and the deucescracked free membership with $500 mgr, i think i can make a really profitable run with my 6 bi shot.

been running pretty shitty in +200bb pots though

1. 22 vs K9 on 29J9J all in on turn
2. 33 vs A6 on 3A7AA all in on turn
3. JJ vs AJ on AJ3Ax for a 400bb pot... fuck. (granted i misplayed this hand horribly by checking the turn after a flop c/r but whatever).
4. KK vs JJ twice, 4bet pots, all in on rag flop, got rivered J twice. wtf is up with these regs flatting JJ to a 4bet preflop... it's so retarded. they either go all in on rags flop drawing to two outs with 2 cards to come instead of 5, or they get minimum value vs AK. wtf tilt

wtfever despite this i'm up decently and i'm hoping to move up to 100NL within the next week

also, i have a full roll for 50NL on stars and i mostly mass multitable there, which provides a better hourly, but lately pt3hud has been giving me a ton of shit. i've been screwing around with the HUD and i inadvertently changed some critical graphics settings for a while and that totally tilted me. i lagged out of multiple tables and i couldn't play well at all under such conditions.

i fixed the problem and i should be on my way to play a lot better hopefully.

here's something that all microstakes players should do better. isolate high vpip fish... a LOT. even a hand like Q4s on the button has TONs of value vs fish in the blinds. cbetting is WAY too profitable vs these players. i guess you could run into trouble if you can't play all that well postflop, but i guess one of the ways to improve postflop is to get involved in as many spots postflop as possible. taking your own two cards into consideration, just kind of have a general idea about which boards to cbet, which boards to cbet once and give up, which boards to barrel, and which boards to check back. fish limps and you're in the sb with KTo/QJo/Axo.. raise it up and cbet your way to profitability.

also, if you have a decent hand, like top pair good kicker, bet the god damn turn.

cool stuff
  collegesucks, Sep 14 2009

so my bankroll has been on the edge for the past couple of months and i decided to give hu sngs a try as they apparently have the loosest br requirements of any game that i can play profitably.

while searching for more information about the game, i found this awesome GTO strategy that every stt or turbo sng grinders should know, if they don't already. i'm putting this on my blog so that it's less likely to get distributed ^^ but i still wanted to contribute something

SAGE System

note from spamz0r of 2p2: "Also note that this is far from optimal play. If you think villain shoves tight your calling range should be a little tighter but you can shove wider. Basically (since it only works for 6bb's or shallower) this is just a crapshoot and it's almost a "push any two cards" and hope villain folds. 6bb's is really nothing, and you barely need fold equity preflop to make shoving ATC ev+ because there's already 1.5bb's in the pot. Some higher stakes winning players actually DO shove ATC in these spots because villain will often have a way too tight callingrange."

EDIT: LOL as soon as i post something about SAGE i find a better thread

life advice
  collegesucks, Aug 09 2009

don't ever watch a movie with explicit unsimulated homosexual intercourse/fellatio with your best dude friend

fuck that was weird as hell

the movie was otherwise ok--somewhat thought-provoking. there are some decent scenes that include heterosexual coitus so that could be a plus, i suppose.

ZachShalack4 said, "i will eat ur heart out"

i realized early on that the fish in the table might get all uncomfortable if we started talking in pokerspeak, so i tried to cover it up, and massively failed. i didn't want people who were unaware of pokertracker to know about it, so i tried to make it sound like a joke or whatever, but yeah... i did fail pretty badly. eventually i realized that the regs i was trying to get to shut up might have been better served if they didn't realize i knew what i was doing. by the end of the convo the stupidity in the table got me on severe tilt (on top of drunken tilt) and i was forced to quit all my tables.

i don't think i should play drunk anymore.

NEW CAR
  collegesucks, Jul 01 2009

posted about getting my dream car last year and two days ago, i made it happen!

after weeks of searching, i was very lucky to find an old korean gentleman in Houston, Texas (5 hours away) whose goal is to get the deal done as cheaply as possible for his customers (who are mostly korean) because he loves his country and the brand he is selling (serious). he basically shaves off all of his own profit (he apparently only gets paid around 100 per car he sells).

i put down 10k at first but then the finance people were being kind of rough about financing so i put down an additional $3000 to shut them up and get a more appealing APR. that plus a $500 bonus that the korean salesman managed to pull off somehow.

the man is like 75 years old and has three children who are successful professionals but he still works because he loves what he does for his customers.

the other salespeople at the dealership did appear appalled at what he was trying to do, and tried to raise the price at every opportunity while i was trying to sign (like adding $1500 to the total price between negotiations and signing. mysteriously, with NO explanation. and when i asked them wtf that was, he just said, "hmm... i don't know how that got there. i'll take it off for you." -___-;; ). but in the end, they cut the korean salesman a lot of slack because he brings a TON of business to the dealership from the korean population.

without further ado,

the car:

2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo
Nordeshleife gray
$28k including tax, title and license (most other buyers pay over 30k for this specific trim)
Track Trim - Infinity premium audio, proxy key entry with push-button start, sunroof, PLUS leather seats, 19 in. alloy wheels, Brembo braking system, track-tuned suspension, Torsen LSD, HID Xenon Headlights

shitty picture quality does not do the car justice:

you can find better pics of the car and other genesis coupes here and here

thank you, donators of Harrah's New Orleans and the rest of the world for giving me a starting roll that made this possible.

it's PURRRTYYY~~ @_@

1/2 live, or, $1.50/hr
  collegesucks, Jun 24 2009

"Tiny" is the nickname of a 300lb. black man who regularly plays 1/2 and 2/5 at Harrah's New Orleans. Needless to say, he's not one to be pushed around.

he's one of those players who sort of has a clue about the relative strength of hands, but at times he does weird, unexplainable shit like taking pot control lines with hands like JK on a JJ9 multiway flop as the preflop raiser. he'll also act on instinct and whim like every other live pro out there, so he can appear to be a total maniac at times.

well he lost that JK hand to 99, and afterwards, he went off on ragetilt preflop, raising like 50% of hands. i stacked him with KK once after that in a 3bet pot, in which he c/r me all in on a 432 flop.

a few hands later he raised to 15 pre and i bumped it to 45 with JKo, ~$400 effective because he needs to know he's not going to shit on the whole table without hearing from me. he called and the flop came 924r. i cbet $50 and he called. turn was a harmless deuce and he checked to me, saying "you don't have a deuce, i check". rofl no shit sherlock. i looked over at his stack and fired $100 and he folded. i showed my KJo and he said that i had him beat. yeah i'm sure i did -__-;;

well about 30 mins later, he raised 67o utg to $10 and i was sitting to his direct left and woke up with AA (lol). i 3bet to $35. everyone folded and he shoved like $250 over the top and i snap called. well the board ran out T9xx8 and he busted my aces. rofl what the fuck ok no biggie, deal the next hand.

he raises to $20, $500 effective and i flat call my AKhh cuz i'd hate my life if he 4bet me (if i had a more comfortable br, i'd probably 3bet and get it in). well the flop comes A64hh (lol... ding?) and he cbets $50 and i think for a bit and call. turn is an offsuit 8 and he insta fires $150. haha ok so he obviously likes his hand and hates my guts so he's not gunna go anywhere. even though the stack sizes were kind of awkward i pushed him all in and he SNAP called with A9o.

the river was 9c gg 1k pot

T___T

after that hand i just kind of shrugged it off and restrained myself from pulling out more money cuz i was obviously affected by how gay the night was. i spent 8 fucking hours so i could build a stack and win that one crucial pot of the night. i put it in as a huge favorite and i lost.

i shook tiny's hand when he offered it to me, smiled, and after joking and laughing with him about the hand and the games tonight, i stacked up my chips and left the table. i dunno... i didn't think i could play optimally any more after suffering two ridiculous beats within an hour. i cashed out $206. counting the $6 spent on the hot dog, my total winnings for the night was $12, or $1.50 an hour

...

on the 1 hr drive home, i kept telling myself, "if i can't handle being shit on by whatever the fuck is in charge of dealing out miracles on the river, i need to quit poker and go find a minimum wage job"

well that's not me.... and i'm not quitting

at least not yet

trying to buy a new car
  collegesucks, Jun 16 2009

i blogged about a car last year (ME WANT) and since then, the year has been decent, despite my going through several bad beats involving not so small sums of money, etc (stolen wallet on the way to the bank = -2k, ftp account hacked = -3k, strippers = -1k, passing out in the middle of the shadiest city in the southern US = -250 cash + unauthorized charges on my cards, and more that i can't fully recount).

i haven't really touched online poker yet, but live really took off this past month and i've managed to luckbox my way back into 2/5 from an 8 buy-in shot at 1/2, and the good run continued. i've set aside a major portion of that 2/5 bankroll to pay for 50% down on the car, but i'd be forced to move down to like 1/2 for a while if i wanted to maintain a solid br for my stakes.

it was a tough choice because while staying at 2/5 is definitely hugely profitable, i had no easy means of getting around from point A to point B atm + i didn't want to catch the bus every other day for 2 hrs of commute time. i also didn't want to continue relying on hospitality of my friends in New Orleans, where i stayed for basically free during my repetitive trips.

i plan to pay for the rest of the car with 0% interest over 36 months cuz i have sick good credit after blowing through my ridiculously awesome scholarship and most of my poker profits by paying off my credit card. i hope to pay it all back asap because i don't know what's going to happen pokerwise in the future and i'd hate to rely on my parents to rescue me if something did actually happen.

i settled on this one trim:

2.0T Premium 6-speed Manual Transmission, $25,125 MSRP

i'm still negotiating for a good price at the ONLY Hyundai dealership in town, but it's a fun process, even though some absolutely despise haggling. before i went to the dealership i looked up the MSRP, the invoice price (dealer's cost + rebates for dealers + other kickbacks and bonuses), and the Edmunds.com True Market Value. the salesman, after giving me this weird, tugging power handshake that he was obviously trained to do, actually came up with a bullshit price offer that was almost 8% OVER MSRP, stating that the genesis coupe is actually a very popular item right now, and the market demand is reflected in the price. it was an interesting point, but sort of moot when i have a friend who passes by that dealership every morning and night for work, only to see that silver design sitting on the grass for about a month now. all the other designs were sold and gone but that silver one stayed throughout. i gave him a sort of ballsy counteroffer at the researched invoice price of $23.5k. there is at least a 2% holdback (3% for American cars) on that amount, which is paid to the dealer when the car is sold, so i knew that the dealer can still profit if selling at the invoice price.

at this point, the salesman said there was no way he could sell it to me at invoice price and profit, so i explained to him that the car has been sitting at the dealership for some time now and that there was ABSOLUTELY no way he'd profit by letting the car sit there, whereas he could still profit if he sold it to me at the price i offered, telling him, "you know, i'm by no means interested in the price you offer, but i am extremely interested in the car itself, so i could get rid of it for you asap if you'd sell it to me." the guy replied by saying, "well, this is the only hyundai dealer in town and it's the best price we can offer." so i told him, "i'm already aware of that, sir, but i already looked up most of the dealerships in this state and several in Houston and Mississippi, and i'm pretty damn willing to make the 4 hour trip to Houston this weekend if the deal didn't work out, and it looks like it won't. good day"

as i was getting up to leave, he stood up and said that he needed to check with the manager before i left. he came back with a "final" offer that immediately slashed the initial price by almost two grand within ten minutes of negotiations (rofl). he also brought back some laughably bullshit comment about how there are only 21 2.0 Turbo Manual Transmission Genesis Coupes in the country and ZERO in Houston, when i've already called up and checked the inventory in Houston before even leaving the house. well, even at the slashed price, i still had no plans to buy the car at MSRP so i took the offer he gave me and promptly left.

the plan is to take this offer written on paper and contact other dealers that i've located and use that to drive the prices down a bit before going back to the dealership in town later this week with a new set of competing offers, while the car just sits there like it has been sitting for the past 4+ weeks haha.

once the deal sets at my offer, there is another nice bonus that i'm not mentioning to the dealers until the very last moment. the manufacturer is offering a rebate program ONLY for graduates and upcoming graduates for $400 dollars, so if i get a deal at around invoice price, in the end i will have actually paid several hundred dollars BELOW invoice, which would be an extremely awesome deal.

hope it doesn't fall through! ^__^

*crosses fingers*

in the meantime, i'm trying to figure out how to drive a manual transmission.

god that thing is fckin tilting me.

the cfa exam
  collegesucks, Jun 05 2009

is tomorrow

good luck to everyone who's taking it

needless to say, i am hilariously unprepared

can't wait for tomorrow to be over so i can play poker with total mental freedom. i've only played intermittently for the past few months (10k hands a month mb?) and i've been feeling totally irresponsible about that.
