Not good. Wooo.
Fucking hate 100nl
bigbb33, Mar 16 2007
Down almost two buyins after 400 hands or so, BR at $2200. I have no idea how I can possibly crush 50 NL so easily but get raped at 100NL: maybe it's just variance?.
The only thing holding me back from pulling out my hair and screaming is that I took a lot of shots at 50 NL before being able to beat it, and now I can really rape it. I guess 100NL is going to be the same, but I thought I'd be at least breakeven with my current skillset.
I think my postflop game needs to change a bit, but I'm not sure how. I see people like Fayth and others who are beating 100nl and 200nl and they are playing like 20/17 or 22/18, but I'm playing about 16/13 or 15/12. Maybe the people at 100nl are smart enough to realize my image now and have figured out my game? Postflop I rarely 2 or 3 barrel, usually giving up after I cbet, which is 90% of the time. I could loosen up, but I really hate radically changing my game when moving up, because the price of learning is twice as much, but there is no point changing my game at 50 NL because I'm beating it quite easily.
To analyse the problems a bit more:
Everytime I cbet I get called, and since I have a hand less often than I usually do, I check on the turn and then fold on the river when they bet. But whenever I have a hand and 2 barrel, they insta fold. Obviously they are then floating me often, and the answer would be to start 2 barreling more to push them out, or to cbet less. I'm just unsure as to whether I'm really getting outplayed or it's just variance, though. Maybe I'll play my old, straightforward 15/12 style until I get down to $1900, then go back to $50 NL until I get up to $2400 once again, and I'll loosen up and see what happens.
Oh and fucking PAHud crashes every minute or so, so I basically cannot use it and see people's stats.
Thank God I had so many problems moving up to 50 nl that I can take some confidence from that and realize that I can do the same at 100nl and end up beating it. I would love to be at 5bb/100 at 100nl by the end of April. We'll see.
edit: Was going to go the cardrunners and watch a whole bunch of low stakes vids by GP and Stinger to get me into a LAG mentality, but today's video is 4 tables of 100nl on stars (MY STAKE, MY SITE) by muddywater: YAY.
Yay 6 tables > 3
bigbb33, Mar 15 2007
Got pissed off and decided to 6 table instead of my usual 3 tabling, which I had been doing following sbrugby's advice. Personally I think it's a lot easier to improve when 3 tabling, but it's better to throw up more tables if you are content to improve more slowly but want results (ie money right now), which is grinding.
Oh and holy shit is 3 tabling boring compared to 6. 250 hands an hour is not fun, and if you are 5 bb/100 that means it's 4 hours per buyin you make: not very motivating.
On another note, I feel my 50 NL game is pretty awesome compared to the opposition, so grinding until I take shots at 100 NL (3 tabling there) should work out. Hope to be there soon... again.
Back down to 50nl, but not for long

Okay, time for an update. Last post (a week ago) was about me just starting 100 NL on FTP with about a 2100 BR: I did so, was doing okay, some suckouts, some bad plays, the usual.
Anyway a weird thing happened last Saturday/Sunday: I completely lost my poker skills. It was like it was a few months ago, I wasn't sure what to do in what position, even though it was very basic, I was making terrible elementary plays, etc. I played a little more 100 NL in this state, dropping 2 buyins and my br down to $1800 or so.
I snapped out of that and moved down to $50 NL again, this time on PS because I was getting brain fucked on FTP. As before I'm killing 50 NL, and my BR is now back up to $2150. This time I'm going to wait until at least $2400 to take shots at $100 NL, though: i don't feel comfortable playing with 20-21 buyins and knowing I have to move down if I lose even 2-3 buyins.
I'd give a graph but I can't get poker grapher to combine my PS and FTP records into one graph, so it's a bit pointless.
First session at 100 NL
bigbb33, Mar 07 2007
As I was typing this, I got KK. Got it all in for 150bb pot with KK on 9T2 board, he had A9, he hit ace, I lost my money.
Was going to say 'I'm up about a buyin first session, but now it's only $15. Oh well, can't complain about people making bad calls.
Also 100 NL is at least as easy as 50 NL. Thought it would be tougher.
50 nl = ship it

Cleaning up 50 nl, running well over past 1.2k hands or so but I'm also playing very well, almost never sucking out or getting it in seriously behind beyond coolers.
BR is at $1970 or so, can't wait to get to $2400 or so and take shots at 100 NL.
Ship it crucial

BR at $1540 or so, trying to play more hands. Feeling comfortable at 50 NL now, I've been taking shots at it since like November, though I was a huge bluffer/LAG/-ev player back then, so it's no wonder I wasn't able to move up and hold my ground. Anyway hopefully I'll be able to hold like 5 bb/100 or so, and if I do...
It will be $1200 or so until I take some shots at 100 NL, which means $1200/($5/100hands) = 240/100 hands = 24k hands until I'm ready, assuming everything stays at 5 bb/100, also I get rakeback + bonuses too. 24k hands at 250 hands/hour (3 tabling) is about 100 hours, which is about 3-4 weeks of playing assuming I get in 4-6 hours a day. So probably a little over a month. Yay.
Bye bye PS

Finally met the 1500 base fpps needed to cash my $150 Pokerstars anniversary bonus. With that bonus cash I'm off to FTP, the magical world of avatars and rakeback.
My bankroll is up to $1300, and I've played about 2.6k hands at 50 NL, though I'm down about $30 or so I feel as though I'm playing well and my stats support it, so I'll stay where I am and work on my game.
I also found a really nice script for table positioning and easier reloading on FTP (if you click the 'get more chips button', it auto clicks 'reload max' and then okay). It's FTPplanner and can be found here
Ship it.
NOT RUNNING SO WELL
