Equipment!
  Silver_nz, Apr 24 2007

My newbie hopes are being crushed...

the downwards trend has slowed, but I'm still on track to lose all of my partypoker promotion money before I can even get my free +$25 after 500 raked hands.

Down $22 to $28 remaining over 1000 hands.

I've stopped playing to re-evaluate my play again...

I got poker tracker trial version, then i got a key for it from maroony in a recent thread o.o
good luck for me off the poker table! I've now got a valuable piece of equipment

apparently still pretty loose O.O .. but some of the hands I was playing with just 3 people or heads up so not sure if its accurate.

regarding hands, here's some I want improve my play in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180343
results from playing KK are I've gotten beaten by AA twice now... maybe I should be letting it go.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180387
I get the feeling I shouldn't be leading this... ah well, at least I still got good odds on my drawing. looks like he was slow playing something, still, I think it was not a bad spot to bluff? although maybe into 2 people is not so good.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180430
horrible play by me.. if i put him on a good starting hand to exclude the 8, then that means his bet on the queen is probably AQ isn't it? I must stop being a calling station. Also, remember minraise = monstor.
I can find much better spots than these to get my chips in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180433
donktastic. gotta find better spots to be bluffing, or maybe stop bluffing at all against players that I don't have any read on. anyway, note to self, when i don't hit the flop, be done with the hand.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180438
I've got to tone down the aggression a bit.. its not working. and why am I calling his re-raise? I'm done with the hand here in future.

so at the moment I'm thinking about changing my style a little bit, going to tighten up the hands that I'll throw my chips in with. Maybe waiting for a hand like 2 pair or better before I start playing.
or maybe I just need to wait for the weekend when the fish will come out.

I've... acquired... (read stolen) another good recourse, a few books about poker, Harrinton on holdem, and the theory of poker, and supersystem 2.
no doubt they are not really applicable to nitting it up, but hopefully I will get a better perspective on how to outplay.

Woot, poker tracker and poker books, I've got cool poker equipment. PUT IT IN MY PANTS!:

(see
http://rpgworldcomic.com/d/20000827.html for first of this cool RPG related comic)

I'm also re-reading grots guide for about the 5th time to try to get a perspective on these tables.

So,I'll:
-do alot of reading about poker theory
-learn to use poker tracker
-make another post on what I know that gives me an advantage at $0.04
-play again in a few days, make tight flop decisions. stay disciplined

By the way if you actually read this far, please leave a comment on anything you thought xD

keep on fighting~

The Fall
  Silver_nz, Apr 21 2007

Down $10 of my $50 over 300 hands. Ah, my journey is off to a bad start... with this end quickly with me bleeding away chips until I lose all my money?

Its like I was on tilt these first few hands

Here, are amazing displays of BAD poker. Mostly to remind me what I’m doing wrong:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178432
hands like this one where everyone folds to a normal raise made me want widen my raising range...

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/177871
I though it suspicious when he called my pot size flop bet. then he bets into me on the turn.... alarm bells ringing, but then I though hell, this is micro stakes, must just have a king weaker kicker. I've waited so long for a goot hand... IT MUST BE GOOD CAUSE I HAVE WAITED A WHILE. how stupid of me. TPTK beats very little that would play like this here. this is not a tournament. I am a donk.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178370
guess I should fold to re-raise? is that what a good nit would do?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178372
haha, the real money table was alot tighter than I though, but making a move like this = bad? the way to beat other weak-tights is.... like this?
Still, even if this was a good behavior for my table, my bet sizing is just silly.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178373
vomitus. must have been on tilt to call that flop bet. I’ll fix this in my mind so I don’t do it again.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178379
horrible spew on Ace rag. Do not look if you have a weak stomach.
hmm… this isn't a good flop to C bet is it >_> <_< >_< TILT!

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178402
4 straight board, and I have the low end of it... I fold it to a min raise T_T

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178414
I think... this is not the way to play in a full ring... this hand is important to me.. it’s the way I have been playing in short handed tourneys, and I mustn’t.
Fold on the flop, this is not a good spot.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178419
I am confused... is this OESD + backdoor flush a call at this limit?
Hmm, I would have to spend about $0.50 + $1.50 (assumed turn bet) to make ~$4 on 35% of the time. So I spend $1.5 to make $1.4 on average... assuming I stack him...
Or say I just called the first bet to see the turn... then at 18% chance of making my straight on the turn I make 0.72 on implied odds... so not a bad call then?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178364
I’m happy with the way I played here.

Heh, guess I honestly though it wouldn’t be much different to high stakes play money...
I though the tables would be loose and passive, but there are alot of tight players here.
Also, I think I was nervous playing with really money and on party's annoying software

Right! now I've identified some places to improve on! I'll get back to it with a properly tight game.

Just like walking over a log.
Focus.

Backstory
  Silver_nz, Apr 19 2007

Hello my liquid fellows.
I’m here to record my journey down the poker road, I’m going to be starting out on the party promotion today.
What kind of adventure will it be? Stay tuned as this small story unfolds.

I’m a starcraft player, been improving my zerg for a while now. I liked to use a 'strategy' style of play (some call it cheese ) my basic idea was scouting, then countering with a build designed to shut down their build.

I smell wraiths... so mass ling all-in!!!

with hydra backup.

So now with poker there will be even more ALL-IN!!!!

I’ve been playing play money on stars for about 3 months now. 3 tabling and gaining some experience. I said I would try the stars promotion when I hit 1 million in play money. Well, I did that about a week ago.
I’ve used a bankroll strategy, moving up to 100/200 when I was on 100k and moving down when I went below 50k. I leaned to keep to it after busting out and starting from scratch a few times.
I had my times of tilt, being at 250,000 I managed to lose it all at one stage after I tried to ‘get back’ at a guy that had sucked out on me. I’ve also had a long breakeven stretch at about 500,000. thinking I wasn’t improving, but playing through.
But I’ve played many hands, seen alot of showdowns and had successive suckouts and learned to play through them.
I’ve played and played and read hand discussions on here and articles on 2+2 while I play.
After I hit 1 millon I started playing a few play money sit and go’s won a few and upped my playmoney a bit.

oh yeah! I'm in the moneeey~!

Will any of this help when I start on real money? We’ll see...

I was to use this blog as a center for my improvement.

I’ll record pivotal hands to force me to think about them, think what is it that makes a winning player, and see where the leaks are in my game.

Goals:
I want to play solid nit poker at the $0.04 tables and try to build up my bankroll. I’ll move up when I hit $150 and move back down if I hit $100.
I want to keep learning and improving. I'll keep reading articles on 2+2 and anywhere else that might be good. (your suggestions are welcome gentle reader).
eventually I want to build enough money to buy poker tracker. And get a subscription to Cardrunners. so, any profit I make at this stage will go straight back into building my skills.

ok, time to step up to the tables.
