New blog + quick charity casino report
  edzwoo, Nov 28 2009

Sup guys,

I'm not going to stop blogging here, but I'm starting a new blog geared toward people who aren't poker players. It's going to have less poker diction and more detail, and probably just some random life updates unrelated to poker.

Here's the link: http://www.edzwoo.com/

I got a lot more detailed in my blog, but here's a quick report of what I wrote:

Went to charity casino, won $200 playing 1/2.

Another friend named Alan is bluffing like every other hand. Girl to my left tells me she doesn't like him. She moves tables and Alan moves tables too and tries to take the seat next to her and she just says "No" without Alan even saying anything.

Mid-forties Korean guy (could have passed as my dad srsly) that kept implying that he was a great poker player tells Jason Chinese people are uglier than Koreans. He counters saying at least he's better at poker, table laughs, Korean guy shuts up for a bit.

Afterward, Burger King dollar menu because that's how I ball.

Small update - FR session
  edzwoo, Nov 22 2009

Haven't busted out a multi-table session of NL100 FR in a REALLY long time. Looks like I still got it, although I ran pretty darn hot. Played somewhere like 26/22 but I started a few tables so HU stats got mixed in. I was playing more in the range of 20/16 or so. I feel that was somewhat close to optimal, and I don't think any of my pre-flop spots could be considered very -EV.

I feel like the games got softer, although I might just have improved a bit since playing HU. I have 30k vpps left till Supernova, so I'm contemplating playing some NL200 FR tables and grinding it out for the remainder of the year.

lol at playing FR and HU but no 6max amirite?

Working on my game
  edzwoo, Nov 17 2009

I like blogging when I'm winning as opposed to losing because I feel like I can talk about whatever I want. When I'm losing, I feel obligated to talk about how some fish was getting hit by the deck and kept rivering me or whatever.

But yeah after the losing session at NL200, I decided to take a break from NL200 for a few reasons:

1. I don't like to reject games, so I often end up playing some presumably good regs (probably not very +EV)
2. I have to wait too long to get a good game
3. I'm really not in the mood for big swings

I am a HUGE fan of taking shots as fast as possible as long as you have the discipline to move down, but I'm not really in a hurry to try and move up, and I also have to start cashing out some money on a semi-regular basis.

But anyway all that aside, my hourly at NL50 was sickeningly strong because of constant stream of fish, so I thought, "hey, maybe I can like 9+ table NL50 HU". I honestly think I'm +EV doing that, but you can see how that went via my two higher volume sessions. I'm not really sure how my VPIP/PFR dropped so much, but my redline was TANKING. I ran like total crap, but gave an honest review of the sessions and am pretty sure the additional tables didn't make up for my drop in winrate.

If you've been following all my sessions, you might have noticed my 3bet% is a bit inconsistent (especially last session). Originally my 3bet range was something like JJ+,AQ+,air. Air wouldn't really be air so much as Ax,Kx, sometimes Qx (or any two depending on gameflow). I originally didn't want to 3bet hands like KQ for value simply because in a theoretical situation, I would throw up if I got 4bet and it has so much postflop value (good for a c/r on missed boards with usually 6outs). That's changing a bit now; KQ is pretty much like AK in a 3bet pot just without the ability to hero someone, and I'm rarely dominated because those hands 4bet me anyway.

I've noticed when people get tilted from 3bets, they start calling your 3bet with anything they raised pre with. So I pretty much went crazy on my value range this session and it worked out nice. Sometimes they just totally give up trying to fight back and assume they'll stack you when they get a monster, which is hilarious. I have never found someone who 4bets me consistently yet.

But yeah, I picked up on some leaks I have, but I think it's the same leak that everyone has. You know, the one where you have a pretty strong hand like top pair but villain bets big on the river when the middle card pairs, but at the same time all draws miss and you decide whatever call? Only to be shown trips and you realize, "man this guy would never bluff me in the first place!" This is mostly for small/medium sized pots (which I think are the most important pots to win in poker since they're a lot more frequent than bigger pots!). The bigger pots I've been pretty disciplined in folding when I need to.

Okay, it's 6am and I haven't slept. I'm not even sure what I'm rambling about, so I'm going to sleep.

GL at the tables.

Woah sick run bad
  edzwoo, Nov 14 2009

I dropped like $750 at NL200 so I decided to 6+ table some NL50 for lulz and dropped 6bi to only fish O_o

I was 12tabling HU at one point but I started timing out so I cut it down to 8. I think that starts hurting my game a bit; but 6 I can still play pretty well.

No time for graph but I'm a little over -1k in the last 3 sessions which puts me at +1200 for the month. My hourly dropped from $200 to $85 .

For the most part I think I played fine. I think after chat on the KJ hand I might have been able to fold (would they really be okay with me leaving if I won that pot?), but that guy was pretty insane (I was up 5bi on him and he got it all back with constant suckouts) aggro and would probably bet his entire range there (0% fold to 3bet, nearly 0% fold to cbet).

HEM emotions
  edzwoo, Nov 11 2009

So I was talking with joLin the other day about HEM. You know how it marks your winning sessions as green and your losing sessions as red? If it didn't do that, I would feel so much more neutral on how my poker sessions have been going. There's something exhilarating about that green color that signifies a winning session. Likewise, it feels pretty crappy when you see the red on a losing session. But I think the joy I get out of seeing green is more +EV (+EJOY?) than red is -EV (-EJOY lol).

Here's a summary of my progress since I started playing again in October:

It's also great when your hero calls are right:

It's hilarious when they're wrong!

Biggest day HU
  edzwoo, Nov 08 2009

I ran really sick hot (last hand flopped flush vs overpair in 3bet pot for 300bb pot), but I also think I played REALLY well at NL200. I was consistently winning all the 25-50bb 3bet pots, either by making good call downs or some sort of bluff. I also won a bit at NL100.

I've been working on widening my 3bet range depending on game flow, rather than just 3betting a tight valuerange + some air, and I think that helped today as well.

I know 5bi isn't really that much relative to how swingy HU can get, but I haven't had a big win at NL200 yet, so this makes me pretty happy.

Upswing continues!
  edzwoo, Nov 04 2009

13 winning sessions out of 14 since I started playing HU roflsick

Two line checks:

I think I messed this up. Obv trying to rep a draw but I don't think he's raising Ax, so that leaves him with draws and air... smaller raise?
+ Show Spoiler +

Sizing good or bad? He's a winner at these stakes but he's been pretty weak throughout the match. I would assume he wins because he plays very solid against players that might get frustrated and spew.
