Get into good habits
  tloapc, May 22 2008

With things starting to slow back down to normal it feels like now would be a good time to start a blog back up.

I moved again recently. Getting real tired of moving. I've moved now a total of 6 times since getting out of the Army; which was in late July '06.
Luckily it's all been worth it.

As of right now I live in Jacksonville Florida and I love it here. I really missed warm weather. Even with a black car w/ black leather seats this is where I ought to be. So if any of you live or know this area, drop me a line.

Also, for those of you that haven't read any previous blogs of mine or just don't remember...
not to long ago, I attempted to quit smoking.
Well, I have to say, with great joy, that..
THE SMOKING BITCH OF A BEAST IS DEAD!!!

It took me longer than I'd of liked but I am done with it and I can safely say no more smoking for me. (unless I get called back up haha)

As for poker, suffice it to say in a nutshell that I left myself $31 at PS, and $38 on UB in cashing out for my move.
I was going to but decided not to redeposit. Instead I decided to freeroll² my leftovers and rebuild from scratch while getting into a habit of blogging or logging down info besides just PT about my sessions including even the non winning days. So whenever I blog about a session, I want to post at least the biggest pot I won as well as the biggest pot I lost of that current session/blog with hopefully some thoughts about it.
I also made a new database today to go with this.
Even tho I decided this today, I mettled around some the last few days/week, knocking up my PS account to $97 and my UB account to $272.

So how it's gone with starting over, as of today:

@UB:
Played a $50 10k Guarantee/bounty and went out the first hand w/ AdQc on a KdJd6d flop with two others all in, one guy having KK, the other JJ and me getting no love. Game over.
BR now = $217

@PS:
I had forgotten how much I <3 PS until I had 10 tables up. I'll probably be spending more time there than UB.

Biggest pot lost
This was the 3rd if not 4th time villain overbetshoves a flop vs me like this. I had folded every time prior, and figured this was a semi-decent time to look him up even tho I wouldn't be surprised if I was behind as he was a 21/0.

Biggest pot won
mixed up my set play
this hand illustrates why these limits are so ez
BR now = $191

chart:

that's it for today
gl all (except those in a hand vs me)

babbles (in picture book mode)
  tloapc, Jan 16 2008

Even tho I quit smoking recently, and I FUUUUUUCKING HATE IT, life has been pretty good in other areas for me.
For instance, my graph since I quit smoking:

not that bad eh (total brag but w/e)
And the ipod touch and book I ordered not to long ago also came in, but I don't have them in my hands just yet, so no pics/thoughts on that.
So I decided after goin up well over my goal today, to actually be satisfied for once
and take the rest of the day off.
I started it off by watchin a little bit of this vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

which after episode 4 of the tv series, I like alot --
(they save the goofing off, like they do ALOT of in Bleach, for after the credits -- and it's much better)

Once I caught up w/ what I had downloaded so far in the Stand Alone Complex series, I decided to take my mind back into the fray -- but not poker obviously

so CHESS was my choice!
Well...actually StarCraft was my first choice for today, but I spent like 20 minutes looking for my reg SC disk because it isn't loaded onto this laptop; I must of lost it in my last move I'm currently screwed as far as BW goes
So chess it is!

I used to be into chess just as much if not more than I am into Poker. I never got to be really really good tho, but I did have ability.
I could play blind, knew a ton of opening theory, endgame strat, history etc, but it eventually turned into just a hobby, which I am now totally grateful for.
So I fired up my chess server, and sat down against a guest, for a 2 12 blitz game. Meaning we both start with 2 minutes, but for each move we do, we get 12 seconds added on.
I'm going to review this as I post it. I've not looked over it yet but I enjoyed this game alot and it's the only one I played so far. I'm white this game.

Me vs Guest

1. e4 e5
Standard
2. Nf3 Nf6

An interesting move, I don't run into the Petrov -- or Russian Defense -- against e4 much. But when I first started, I did employ this defense as one of my own. My reasoning: to take some initiative by hitting e4 as well as to stray from the well known and famous Ruy Lopez line. If I remember correctly, ppl generalize The Petrov as tending to be a bit on the boorish side...but it wasn't so much when I played it

3. Nxe5 Qe7
Again, I'm no pro, and it's been forever since I did anything serious with this game. In fact the last time I spent even this much energy on a game would have to be 8+ years or so. In saying that, these are just my thoughts on the game, they won't be perfect, nor looked up, nor quoted.
This move is different than usual. This move tells me it is pretty safe to say I'm playing a human, and not a computer...which rocks. It also feels more on the novice side. However, fast games -- which I define as blitz and under for me -- was always something I was weak at, and this move could be done just to mix things up away from main line theory and beat me to a pulp in an unorthodox style, u know, just for fun....so I didn't let myself get overconfident yet.
4. d4 Nxe4

5. Bd3 d5

I moved on Bd3 rather fast, and in retrospect, I believe bc4 is much stronger, making d5 impossible atm, and attacking the f7 square. I noticed this right after I moved.
6. Qf3 c6

When black played c6 it made me go huh? I think this was played as an in between move, trying to trap me..
7. Bxe4 dxe4

..into taking the e pawn with my Queen. I can not play Qxe4 here because I would lose my knight due to an unprotected Queen once the knight has to move because of f6. So! We move forward..missing a trap
8. Qe2 Bf5
I decide to retreat my Queen to the best spot I could find and develop her, attacking and planning on eating my opponents now weak e pawn in just a matter of time. He decides to throw up some D for it.
9. Nc3 f6

My opponent decides to draw a line. With 9... f6 I must now decide and finalize a few things about my opening before I lose my head (or my knight). I won't get into a complete detail as to what I mean as this would get long winded. Lets just say here I ate up some time thinking about what to do with my king and what I wanted to do to his.

10. g4!? fxe5
I really only had two moves here. I could move the knight to safety on c4. I did not see anything wrong with that move. But to me, especially in this part of the game....this is where u always need a plan. I can tell/feel by now that my opponent is a solid player, he may not be a master, but he aint no complete chump either. If I play Nc4 what is my plan? What am I doing?

The best moves in this stage of the game generally speaking are moves ignoring ur opponents threat and creating your own BIGGER threat; you force him to play your game not you playing his, and with Nc4 it felt like I wasn't doing shit.
As I said before, I thought for awhile before playing this move, and made sure to the best of my ability that my ass was covered and my goals were met in doin such a move. The outcome in my analyzation within the timeframe I had was it looked like a gamble, but for the most part solid.

11. gxf5 exd4

Without getting into all the variations of what could of happened, this is the line/position I thought I would most likely be at with me playing g4. It looks at first glance like black has complete control of the game, but if you look for a little while, you will find plenty of leaks hehe
12. Qh5+ Kd7
This is one of the things I wanted. I wanted him to move his king, but not to safety by castling or some such. Playing g7 or Kd8 are two much worse moves that I would of loved for him to do. In looking at it, I think Qf7 would be blacks best move here. I'll let u decide, this is all just for fun anyhow

13. Bg5 Qb4
development w/ tempo!
14. O-O-O Bd6

What is so awesome and what rarely happens is when something goes as planned. This was my plan and what I was striving for since g4! However, I have learned the hard way not to start dancing/celebrating/feeling good about this now. Execution is the hard part.

15. Qf7+ Kc8
The timing and correct order of attack is key, and I started slowly chewing up some of my time here, bit by bit
16. Nxe4 Rf8

17. Qe6+ Kc7

Solid moves, but nothing too clenching being done yet, it feels like it is coming together, but I need to do something now before he equalizes. (This was my thinking/thought process at this point in the game -- I believe he had over 2 minutes left, and me well under a minute)

18. Rxd4?!
18. ... Qxd4
I saw something, it felt right, and I was running low on time. There was something here and I knew it, but I only had 10-15 seconds left. This is similar to pushing all in with air when u think it might even be good but your time bank is almost up so you can't think it through -- you got nothing left but your gut

19. Rd1 Qe5

20. Rxd6!!
Qxe6

If your gonna do something, do it is my motto for Rxd6

21. fxe6 h6

h6 is a bad move on his part. I think he first saw Rf4, and it does look good at first glance, coinciding this with him wanting to keep the time pressure on me (I was under 20 seconds almost the whole 2nd half of the game) is why I think he did it, but then he realized that Rf4 was a really bad move with my e-pawn amongst other things
22. Bh4 Re8
he moves to my epawn threat
23. Bg3 Na6

I move my bishop for the double check threat (or greater) and he finally develops his knight and rook
24. Rd7+ Kb6
only place he should/could go
25. e7 Nc5

fun position to analyze, if this wasn't a quick game, it would be over from here

26. Bc7+ Kb5

I don't see nd6+ that would pretty much wrap up the game -- I got wrapped up in how to win the knight for free
27. c4+ Kxc4
28. b3+ Kb5
29. a4+ Nxa4
30. bxa4+ Kxa4
31. Nd6 b5
32. Nxe8 Rxe8
33. Bd6 black resigns

that about wraps up my game and LONG ASS blog
onto other things

fuck I need a cig~

I quit
  tloapc, Jan 13 2008

smoking that is
as of last night

In a little history lesson about me, I used to smoke for quite along time. With the help of my then gf, I managed to quit for two+ years.
I started up again right at the end of training in the military. It was definitely +ev to smoke once u get in ur unit in the Army.
I have made it a new years resolution to quit, and this time it's on my own, so I might as well start chuckin at the shitty process now.
I apologize to anyone and everyone in advance....if I seem very cynical, non humorous, or just plain unhappy for the next 4-6 weeks, well.....it's CUZ I AM

LET THE CLASH OF RAGE VS PRIORITIES BEGIN!

win can I?
  tloapc, Dec 20 2007

Todays stats:

Today when I woke, something didn't feel right..I think I was due
so instead of going back to 1/2 when I felt a little off, I decided to just drop back down to .5/1 for a bit.
This was a smart move that saved me a few hundred I think because I couldn't, for the life of me, win any pots over 50bbs. I then started to get frustrated, made some really dumb overvaluing plays, and before I knew it, I was about 4 buyins down.
I made myself take a break, smoked a cig, and came up with a plan.
Once back my first stop was the cashier, making myself a really nice cashout, leaving me very very very little. Did I say little? I also ordered an Apple Ipod Touch from the Pokerstars store. Hope it's as cool as it looks. I then started over....fresh in mind, body, but no bankroll lol at NL25
First started at two tables, then to 4. If I lost a buyin or two there, I'd drop down, and rape my way back up. But luckily, I didn't lose. So I decided after goin up fairly fast, to go on up to NL.50.
Worked great! Before I knew it I was up like 4 buyins there. So let's go back to .5/1, it's just as easy, I've raped it plenty... But what in the hell, again, same stuff, sets no good, flush hits but board doesn't pair. This happens more than once yet again, all leading me into making a REALLY big and bad shove call that was more out of curiosity than anything else and I'm exactly where I started before NL25.
I had to laugh, this was pretty damn funny actually.
So round three, back to NL 25, and shortly after a few buyins, again back to NL 50. A few hours later and I'm up to where I was before I retried .5/1, but I'm tired...and so my work days over. It's now time to eat and get ready to travel to Detroit tomorrow to see my family. Good timing too, I need some kinda life outside poker.
So with that, I leave with my first losing day in about 2 weeks, and leave u guys w/ a family pic

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Well shit..
  tloapc, Dec 17 2007

I haven't blogged in awhile, so decided to blog about today. Instead of cashing out today, I decided to try something genius and little different. I'd try 1/2 for max of 2 buyin loss. If I went up, I'd keep playing, if I lost 2 buyins, I'd stop, and go back to good ol .5/1 and below

So I'm sure you can guess the outcome....
What got me is how fast it happened, hit some variance pretty fast, only 570 hands.
Hell, enough talk, I'll just post my stuff

bleh
gotta love greed
least my money aint scared - enjoy!~

yayyy so back to the reality of the good ol grind
lesson learned, for now

First decent online win
  tloapc, Jun 17 2007

So tonight I got really fed up with FTP tourneys.
Within 24 hours, two different times I got my money all in on the flop on set vs set, with me having the higher set. But what happens? Yep, turn pulls that miracle 1 outter on me.

After the second time, I decided to break from that place for a bit. Try it somewhere else. My choice was Absolute Poker. I had signed up there a long time ago, back in my REAL fish days - playing something like 65/0/5 - so of course the old account was empty.
So I deposit enough for three tourneys, a small one a medium, and large one (least for me right now)
I got gayed pretty hard in the big tourney with a story of AA vs TT, and a rivered ten. The small one didn't come out so great either, but the middle one....ahh, well here's a screen shot of that outcome

SHIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP IT!!
And at a reaaally good time too! My gf's bday is in 2 days.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

Fresh from the forge
  tloapc, May 21 2007

*WARNING* The following blog is my first negative bb etc blog. I'm posting it to hopefully get good advice, not just stupid crap like oh you big baby you know nothing about bad beats etc. Insult my play all you like with some reasons please! But don't insult me personally if you dislike bad beat discussion etc, just do the world a favor and don't read below and end up wasting your time (and mine)

Ok, so first a little background. As stated in my earlier blog, this week I am moving to DC. It is eating up almost every penny I own. I did manage to save 1k of my earnings for poker however, which has put me down to the .5 tables. So I figured I would just nit it up until I hit 2k and go from there. The poker gods however, are looking to make this a much more interesting/harder path than I thought. I admit, I am really frustrated at the moment, and since I am still relatively new to taking poker seriously (5 1/2 months), I also admit my confidence has also taken a hit due to these last 2.5k hands I've played. I would love any thoughts or critiques that anyone thinks; besides the fact of keep playing the way you are and in the long run you will come out ahead, because I already know this and want something a little more than that.
Alright so with my 1k, within 2500 hands, I very very quickly went down to about $600, and then forced myself to move down to the damn .25 tables to which the same kind of crap was happening and I quit after shortly playing there.

Whereas the last 6 months poker has been my source of income, this huge hits that I just took has me now debating getting a job when I move to DC, and just saving up for a br for .5/1 or 1/2 or live games. I don't really like this idea however, cuz
a) work sux of course, but more importantly
b) I know I can beat the .25 game, I've done it plenty before, and I should be able to beat the .5 game as it seems the exact same kind of people and ABC poker is all you need
c) for my own confidence I want to beat the crap outta any limit I play, so I don't want to take the pansy way out which is kind of what I feel like I would be doing if I didn't earn the skip through poker.

So below is all the big pot hands that I lost in the last 3000k or so hands. Some of them I had good reads, some of them were wrong reads. I'm hoping someone will go over them and give me reassurance or blast me with something I'm obviously not realizing.
*note*They are in no particular order.

Probably my least favorite played hand of all of these.

vs Villain with 85%vpip

My luck vs guy with 91%vpip in 100 hands (complete cooler)

Absolutely horrible flop play, hung myself - was preflop play bad to?

Any suggestions or just a cooler and nothing more?

This suckout sums up just about everything. Should I stop playing? I don't think so! I know I'm playing right...right?

This guy had been running all over me with lovely rivers. Main thing I wonder here is the fact that countless times I get rvr f*cked to the point I believe in it happening. Take a break?? nah I'm playing right! I will win!

what can u do, this is poker (#*@^$&%^#@$%&!)

How dumb was this? (nl .25)

I seriously rarely ever minraise anymore - think I did to single it out?? - what else did I do wrong

hand vs a complete nit - which is why I played it - had the exact right read - just a cooler in my eyes

how bad am I? 17$ seemed so ss to me that I didn't think this hand through

I should shoot myself for my turn play huh

I'm honestly not sure about this hand

was obvious I was getting to this guy - was 70% I had the best hand - good call?

How retarded am I? 14 on a 1-10 scale?

check this turn?

No need to look at this one really. Just normal cooler pre my KK vs AA with no love (not even any ky)

did I bet to much?

So I don't think I played that bad all in all right? Just mainly some bad variance? With a little bit of tilt of course. And at a time I really don't need it.
Thanks to any who actually made it through this blog lol I'm sure it was hell. Gotta run some errands, so I leave you guys with these two

Little pieces of gold
  tloapc, May 14 2007

Came across these videos today and last night, think they are great and worth sharing.

Why I love Doyle
Doyle vs Antonius
Something very few of us would do vs a minraise

My fave Poker Superstars interview
Chip Reese

Something I think every traveler should know
ATMs

On another note, I rarely play on UB anymore for a few different reasons. But last night I ended up playing there because my girlfriend still plays there to finish earning her bonus. So I ended up playing a 10$ tournament and 6$ bounty there with her. It didn't hit me until after I placed 2nd in the 10$ tourney that:
A) You can't copy and paste your hand from the completely gay hh of ub once you have been knocked out. It just keeps flickering the copied part over and over and the cursor never moves from the top of the hh. Ctrl A doesn't work, highlighting and selecting it doesn't work, nothing works. It's really annoying.
b) Since I don't have ultimate history anymore, I wasn't tracking my hands. I don't manually enter the outcomes into PT wither, so I don't really use anything except my own recollection to improve when it comes to tournaments. I was sending a few hands that I played to my gf over messenger, and then decided that it would be a good idea to start copying and pasting key hands of tournaments into wordpad all the time, and then onto here for analyzation. I decided this after the tournaments so I don't have many hands, but here is a few that I do.

Got the money in when I had the best of it, and poker gods said I was needing a slow down. This is the 10$ tourney
Regular cooler
A hand I played absolutely horrible, and deserved everything I got.
dummmmmbasssssssssss
As I said earlier, I placed second. I could not copy and paste the final hand so I don't have the actual hand history of it, I just have my memory from it. Here's what I remember of the heads up part of the tourney.
I had around 20k in chips, villain had about 60k. Villain was running pretty hot, knocking quite a few people out with very marginal hands that were hitting two pair on the flop.
The blinds were 800/1600 with 150? ante. I was on the button and had QTo. I raised pre to about 3x the bb. Villain calls. The flop comes Q9blank (2 I believe) with the Queen and the blank card both being a club.
Villain checks, I bet a little over half the pot, 6k, villain pushes and I call with my remaining 10k or so. Villain shows two pair Q9 and I didn't catch anything on later streets so gg for me. Sucked but what can you do.

In the Bounty tourney I only have one hand copied. I still made the money, but right after making the money, this hand happened. Then two hands later I pushed the rest of my chips with AK in the SB against a limped small pp in middle position, and they held. GG me. Nothing really worth noting in all honesty, but here's the hand I have if your extremely bored.
2outter, nothing special

That sums up about everything I wanna put in this blog for now, so time for me to wrap it up and go check out Uhaul information etc for my move to DC that I plan to be doing this weekend. New neighbors, here I come! Take care all~

About today
  tloapc, May 11 2007

I decided today I'm going to start up keeping this blog a little bit more than just some of the stupid stuff I do. Especially since/while I am moving.
For any who are interested, since I have been out of the Army, I have lived mainly in good ol Houston Texas. This however is about to change very shortly. I am currently in the process of moving to Washington DC! So if any of you know any good stuff to know about that area (especially poker related) please hook me up!
Also, if anyone here would like to add me to their messenger to talk poker or what not, I am tloapc at all of them, AIM, MSN, and YM.

So today I woke up and decided to actually not play poker, do some non poker stuff for a little bit. Help get my mind away from work some to keep things in perspective, you know, keep it healthy.
So I watched the new Bleach again, which rocked but I hate being all caught up and having to wait a week for each new episode to come out! Especially since it started getting good again. I also watched Death Note 29 and 30, which were also good and now has me impatiently waiting for 31.
While surfing, I ran into this video, which some might find interesting.
Baby vs Cobra

So then I got bored of surfing, and decided to play a game of chess. Heres the game:

{Black resigns} 1-0

A few things I quickly realized when playing this game.
A) It became quickly obvious to me in my play that I have not played an actual game in years.
B) I could totally tell in my game that I play poker now
C) I got very lucky in this game, Villain made a major mistake and I was able to capitalize on it and not let go - which to me can be one of the hardest things to do in chess vs a good stubborn opponent - win a won game

I had a ton of fun though playing this game though. I had forgotten how much fun it was to battle it out over the board. It was very refreshing, and I am going to have to do this more often.
I'd post more, and I like I said, I will start to now, but my beautiful gf is off of work, and I'm gonna see how she's doin. L8r~

Some sweet headphones
  tloapc, May 09 2007

So I just recently obtained some badass new headphones. The Ultrasone Proline 650. I had the Bose Quiet comfort headphones before these (which got stolen in Israel) and lemme tell ya, these headphones completely blow the Bose away!
Not the cheapest things though, but the quality is completely worth it imo. They come with a 2nd set of ear pads and a few other little goodies to. This company is about quality, seriously. Just try watching a movie with these things. I've never heard better surround sound out of headphones before. Braveheart is the sh*t yo!
