hi guys
i recently moved back to states (2 weeks ago) to stay for good.
gonna work as a manager at some pizza-restaurant stores(my uncle owns some)
its been a big decision for me since i had to leave greece (friends family gf etc) to make this move
and i really hope it goes well.I havent played any poker for the last 3 months.might aswell try my luck
here and start playing some again.
***a big thanks to LP for being the main school for me learning poker past 2 years,
grinding up to nl400 on various sites(mainly eurosites) grant me like 40k$ + like 60k$ more that ive spent allready
back in greece***
special thx to nolan, heroes)engage, wobbly, tom, dusty and many more for posting hands teaching us noobs how to play
anyway, im getting a new desktop next week and im looking forward to get it really highend
i7 2600k
Asus P8Z68 Deluxe
16gigs ram
geforce 570gtx
120g intel ssd
so my main question is will be worth it overclocking this to like 4.2ghz(3.5 is factory clock)
will i need extra cooling to do that? and hows my motherboard for such things.
i trust lpers more than a nerdy site i ll google to get answers for this so
thx in advance and gl at tables

had mine up to 3.9(semi conservative) and used prolimatech megashadow cooler. didnt run into any problems. obv make sure you follow instructions with your motherboard coz i had some gigabyte one and had the dealer do the whole oc thing for me. (dealer told me i could run it up to 4.3 or something)
you have too much ram though, ive only had 8gb (triple channel ripjaws), anything over 8 is just a waste of ram, windows 7 cant use them. |

Windows 7 *can* use that much memory, the question is will it? Most likely not, unless you're running virtual machines or something on your computer for lulz. By the time any games/apps require a system with 16GB of ram you'll be on totally different hardware anyway.
Btw I think the core-i systems operate in a tri-channel type memory addressing, meaning your want your memory in parities of 3. 6gb, 12gb, 24gb etc. |

windows 7 can use more then 8 gigs ram http://news.softpedia.com/news/192-GB...-7-Maximum-Supported-RAM-110282.shtml
that said...i agree it's a complete waste to have more then 8...buy 8, if somehow u magically take up more then 8 go back and buy more
also fuck the 2600k, get the 2500k and overclock it instead, almost exactly same processor and w/ oc makes it same speed. I doubt u do enough to need hyper threading.
they run dual channel also...i think amd typically does tri and intel dual |

Get 6 or 8 gigs ram like the others have said and put the savings towards a 256gig ssd or keep the 120 and add in an additional 1-2TB (minimum) 7200 or whatever. 120 will get used up so fast. |

what about the Video Card? upgrading that, saving those 8gb of ram.
nvm, just checked the specs of the card. |

Overclocking is best used to get some extra life out of old hardware. You probably won't even notice a performance increase overclocking a new processor, and you may be shortening its lifespan or risking damage. Try it out at 3.5 GHz first, and if the performance isn't as good as you want, then overclock. Otherwise, don't bother. |

^^Are you sure? I think by default there is one production line for CPUs and what they do is they just put different multipliers to achieve different speeds. So if u buy the slowest from the series it's very likely that it'll run at the speed of the fastest one. Obviously it's not that easy because they lock the multiplier in most CPUs (except extreme series for intel afair). Otherwise everybody would do it obviously .
So as long as u don't overheat it'll not shorten it's lifespan. |

If you plan on over clocking, make sure to get a fan that is not the default one that comes with the processor. I have a coolermaster hyper 212 plus. Cheap but very effective. |

thx for the feedback , im gonna try to oc 20% to 4.2ghz and gonna ask the site im buying the pc to oc it for me.
since it seems very complicated to try oc it myself :/
i also removed 8gigs of ram and saved some money, thanks for this too :D
p.s. heros just the fact you have been posting so many hands back there when i was playing , i could see and learn
on what to do when facing similar situations.might have been lpers with more winnings or w/e than you but you
post so many hands that im rly thankful for :D |
