Hey, I've been listening to a lot of Joe Rogan podcasts lately, and sometimes when it's about really cool topics, or they talk about people who's amazing I look up some of their work, to learn and find out more.
One fascinating character called Terence had a lot on his mind, I listened for a few hours to some of his speeches and I made a summary of some the stuff I felt was really well said, thought provoking, and awesome.
Some essence of Terence
+ Show Spoiler +
Catalysts to say what is never been said, to see what has never been seen. To draw, paint, sing, sculpt, dance and act what has never before been done. To push the envelope of creativity and language, and what's really important, the self presence of direct experience.
We have to stop consuming our culture, we have to create culture. Don't watch TV, don't read magazines, don't even listen to NPR.
Create your own roadshow, the nexus of space and time where you are now is the most immediate sector of your Universe. And if you're worrying about Michael Jackson, lady gaga or somebody else, then you're disempowered, you're giving it all away to icons.
Icons which are maintained by an electronic media, so that you want to dress like X, or have lips like Y or something, this is shit brained. That is all cultural diversion. And what is real is you, and your friends, and your associations, your highs, your orgasms, your hopes, your plans and your fears.
And we're told no.
We're unimportant, we're pheriperal, get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that, and then you're a player.
You don't even want to play in that game, you want to reclaim your mind, and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half baked moron, consuming all of this trash that's been manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

Never used that long on such a short text lol, used nearly an hour. Never been my strong suit using them , , , , , <---- where they're suppose to, and I feel it'd take so much away from the text if I had a lot of typo's and really bad structure.
Hope it's pretty good now lol. |

Some of it is true, but whatever, can't blame the entire "system" and t.v. etc. We need people to have work, get educated, and get a job or else our streets wouldn't be clean, we wouldn't be able to buy socks for 4.99, we wouldn't have trains, airplanes to ride in. There's nothing wrong with t.v. and advertisement, it's amazing we live in an age where people can spend multi millions of dollars on production to make fantastic shows and movies and we get to watch them in the comfort of our own home. Don't listen to npr? I love npr =p, one of the only places to get decent national and global news that is not such bullshit like Fox News or MSNBC.
Complain about having to look like x and y? Then go ahead and have sex with a girl with big frizzy hair, doesn't shave her legs, and wears food stained overalls. Go to a club, restaurant, bar wearing pajamas, or wear a wifebeater at work. I believe people can have tastes and preferences without being classified as "brainwashed".
The idiots are people who regurgitate stuff they hear on t.v. or radio and act like they understand topics without researching it themselves through legitimate sources and formulating their own reasonable conclusions. The idiots are people who spend thousands of dollars on nice clothes, houses, and cars but live their lives in debt. The idiots are the people who are not happy with their lives and blame their job or other people.
Just because you have a "normal" job doesn't mean you can't be happy. Take everything you hear, watch, read with a grain of salt, and formulate your own opinions, ideas, conclusions based on evidence, reason, and logic.
One of my favorite quotes goes something like do whatever makes you happy because those mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
Although quotes aren't everything, people give them too much credit. : )
Guy in podcast sounds like a hippy preacher btw. |

I agree I have been doing exactly that for some time now. There is one problem though. Most people, in fact all the people I know are not doing it, which means you end up living in another world, a world very different from ordinary peoples world. So you end up with no one to discuss exciting stuff with, because most people don't care about anything other than the shit they were taught to like from TV, and the mindless consumerism, status, ego and wealth accumulation. And I ended up getting bored being around people like that, so you might get a bit alienated from your usual surroundings. |

Hey mate, which number Podcast is that one with Terence. I'm browsing through them but none of them seem to have his name on the title. Also is there a way to download them in mp3 format so you can listen to them on the go instead of watching them on Vimeo. Thanks in advance for the info. Some of these podcasts are very entertaining. |
