Poll: Watch (A), (B) or (C) ?
(Vote): Brown dial, leather strap
(Vote): Off-White dial, leather strap
(Vote): Black dial, steal strap
Hi,
I'm after a watch for multi-purpose - outings/business. I don't like anything too "bling bling" and I don't like anything all one colour "i.e all silver/all black/all gold etc". I want it to be slightly stylish but nothing out of the ordinary, where should I start as I know almost zilch about Watches. Are leather bands high maintenance? I don't want to have to go out and replace it so often.
My budget is <$800 AUD which is relatively close to <$800 USD.
Any help would be great, i.e brands/styles/pictures. I've had a look at the watch thread, but it was hard to tell the pricing on them.
"EDIT"
Ok, after a quick research, this is what I came up with:
(a)
(b)
(c)
A bit above my price range but that is ok. I'm debating between the three above:
Thanks.

I would suggest buying a pocket watch.
They are very classy and will add the much needed sophistication that you lack. |

with that price range tag heuers are the only thing worth buying if time is not the only thing you're concerned about. the rest are mostly tacky or trying too hard.
these bulova clones and designer watches coming out look all alike and in my opinion are a total waste of money - get tag heuers or just stick with your nexus for the time only. |

"A watch has its uses."
Like what? Aside from telling time, the only time you need to wear a watch is to show off how much money you have, and if that's the case, you'd be spending a lot more than $800 for a watch.
If all you need the watch for is to tell the time, spend your money on a new phone (which you have) and if you want something on your wrist, get a manly gold bracelet. I used to see guys where thick gold bracelets that were the same design as the basic 18k gold necklace, but I'm not sure if the bracelets are popular anymore. |

they will always be popular among gypsy gangsters and basically when you're going to buy a golden bracelet you are willing to become a gypsy gansgter wannabe so that's a move I'd like to think twice about |

Looks like it's going to tell me the time when I don't have my nexus on me (e.g. it's rude when your fiddling with mobile in certain environments, a watch is a bit more obscure; when I'm out walking; when I'm at the gym; when I'm in an exam god I could go on...). And looks like it beats a "gold bracelet" in making a statement. If you don't think watches have a place in today's society that is your opinion, but they are selling and making them in all price ranges and I'm a willing buyer. |

Why can't you just wear it cause you like it or because it looks good and accessorizes well with your outfit?
Girls wear jewelry for similar reasons all of the time and not just jewelry but little accessories and stuff like that too. It doesn't even necessarily have to be about showing off money, girls wear cheap costume jewelry all of the time because it still looks nice or matches something.
Of course a watch often is just an instrument to display wealth, I can't argue that, just not always. |
