Hey LP,
My pokerstory is nothing special.
The only format I've been succesfull in is 9man SnG's up to $11.
Cashgames are where I lost my money, by being to arrogant to start at 2NL and played 25NL-50NL.
Bought "the poker blueprint" but was to lazy to actually read it.

Then I lost my roll at FT and pretty much gave up on poker.
Till 2 months ago I logged in at stars and deposited $10. Played $10NL for a bit.
Was actually down to $3.70 but still ran it up to $30. Altough it was fun, I didn't have time to play.
Needed to travel alot by train, so printed "the poker blueprint" and did read it.
Alot of it made real sense to me. Started playing 2NL Zoom at 1 table and played/ran well.

Now I'm at $88 and only need 24 VPP for the first milestone bonus ($10).
Looking forward to see where I'm at on July 1st.

Sounds stupid, but it really feels good to be actually knowing what I'm doing most of the time/ sometimes.
At least I'm doing most/some things for a reason (not always the right thing for the right reason..)
Thinking about ranges, floptexture, why I bet, bet-fold etc.. The dynamic is great.

Goals:
- My plan is to play at least 50k more hands on 2NL before moving up.
- Thinking about the game and plays that might work.
- Play to enjoy learning real poker I guess.

Probably tldr.

GL everybody

Poker Blueprint is a good book to get a general idea of what online poker is about.
Some decent concepts and some good ideas.
However i think its kinda medicore for players who are past the basics.

Its very vague and doesnt go too deep into details.
I especially laugh about the part in the book where it says poker math is easy and then explains a load of unimportant beginners crap like odds of a fd crap but nothing of the things that are really important. (Like for example how often u have to c bet and which ranges are good for that percentage vs an average player to get an instant profit)

Good luck with Poker

And remember that they key is to have a solid BR management.
Swings are hughe.
60BI for SNgs and 40BI for cashgame is the bare minimum u should have

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 01/06/2012 11:23

naw man poiker math is incredibly simple. Anyone who`s taken an intro stat course and most highschool math should be fine with it. It`s the application of the math that`s a bit difficult. You could turn most poker math problems into word problems on a test for high schoolers and expect them to get it right

Disclaimer Im bad but

I know that in a nutshell its always the simple (percentage you win x money in pot ) - (percentage you lose x money in pot) compared to the odds and money allready invested
However in practice this can get quite complex considering all the different ranges and percentages and possible actions whith each range.
afaik Poker Blueprint doesnt help one bit with getting the simple base poker math into a real poker situation considering ranges and actions.

(or maybe i am the only stupid guy who needed quite some time to figure out reasonable ranges and actions that make sense in terms of profiting from a math standpoint)

So I should have $200 to move up to 5NL? Seems to be a lot.
But ok, I guess it wouldn't hurt either, think it's a great way to play comfortably.

What other reading material would you recommend?

You can move up with like a fourth of that. If you're at $50 you can probably put a few buyins at NL5 (100bb. You can top up to 250bb if you see a super retard sitting deep, but I've noticed the people who play deep tend not the be the terribad ones). Don't get too attached the the buyins and set a rock bottom that you move down right away if you hit it.

Aight yeah I know what you mean. I can't calculate equity vs a range, exact pot odds, count combos, etc at the table either. I go by heuristics and approximations like I'm sure most do. What I mean when I say that it's really simple math is that none of the concepts are that hard. It's a tiny bit of probability, some ratios and a bit of adding and multiplying, and that's it. It's like how if you can add 2 digit numbers you can add 10 digit numbers, 100 digit numbers, etc.
