Hey LP,

First of all, I'm 22, have some jobs which give me like 600€/month and I am living on that money. Well and it has been my dream to live on playing live Poker since I know about Poker. So 3 days ago I took my 6000€ savings and went to a local Casino to play some 5/5 NL. I finished my first day with 100€ profit which really made me happy and motivated me to keep on going... So today I bought in for 300€ and doubled up pretty quickly to 600€. And then this hand happened :

I am utg and raise 20 with AAch, 5 people call, flop is KT9cc and I bet 80. Some guy who seems to be a reg shoves all in for 600 total, everyone folds and I make the call after tanking for 2 minutes. He shows T7cc and hits the flush.

Well... I Never played a 1200€ pot in my life and it fucked me pretty bad since I got 6000€ total and that is in fact ALL money I have. I rebought for 300€, made it to 400€ and then this hand happened :

Some guy raises to 10, four people call and I make it 70 as BB. Everyone folds, button calls and flop comes A98. Button is some guy that plays many pots and doesnt seem to care a lot about money, but definately has a clue of the game. My image is very tight and I think he knows that. I check and he bets 120, I quickly think that he got an ace, but on the other hand I thought he might also bet with lots of hands + I might be able to push him off like A5. So I shove for 400€ total and he calls while shrugging his shoulders and wins the pot with AT.

Please rate the way I've played this hand*. Well I just came home and I am crushed and dont know if I should keep on trying. Give me some advice how to deal with my situation... Right now I feel like I am a stupid gambling addict who doesnt make anything else of his life like studying or getting a normal 8/5 job.

Thanks guys, really need you

Chris

you are not rolled to play 5/5 live

Yeah but there are no lower games in my country (Germany). And I just thought it's worth the risk

It's not worth the risk buying in for 300, since the risk of busting is very high. You're in Germany, cant you play on pokerstars? 6000 would go a looooooong way there. Anyway the first hand is pretty standard I guess, people are going to be shoving a lot of combo draws or even weak made hands that they think they are protecting. Hand 2 is pretty bad though. For starters, what did you squeeze with in the BB? Your experience from hand 1 should have saved you from hand 2. These people are calling way too loose and not folding on the flop, so suddenly deciding to squeeze + bluff allin is suicide. If you're ever going to bluff, pick an amount that you think will get the reaction you desire. Most live players are either calling or folding regardless of your betsize, so you could bet something like 200 or even 100 on the flop and your opponents reaction will be the same every time. This way you save money on your bluffs when they call. You even put him on top pair. Fish never fold top pair. I dont care how good you think your opponents are, EVERYONE is a fish at live poker. Assume the absolute worst about your opponents until they give you a reason not to.

So the real advice is dont bluff & dont play fancy.

yeah if you cant find an appropriate live game. just play stars. more tables anyways. hand 1 isn't really bad, you're not ecstatic about getting it in there but I don't think I'm folding there either. hand 2 is just the old rule, dont try to represent hands to someone who cant hand read. dont bluff a fish.

Yea, you're a bit of a noob, I don't think continuing with this is a good idea. Instead read loads, get good in the game, see if you can do the nitty gritty, and not just "start at 5/5" and make easy bucks.

And the first hand is virtually never good lol

I am utg and raise 20 with AAch, 5 people call, flop is KT9cc and I bet 80. Some guy who seems to be a reg shoves all in for 600 total

6 way hand, I think you were lucky that you weren't already crushed here. Even longple would fold here I'm sure!!

And for the second hand!!

People rarely, if ever fold top pair on a semi dry board live, especially at those stakes, especially if he's a bit on the laggier side. (If he was more timid, a nit, worried about getting in a lot of money with maybe not the best hand, I'd like it better).

Hand 1 is fine.

Hand 2 is terrible regardless of what you had - people never fold top pair live, especially in the lowest stakes available. If you're not that good at poker (from your post it appears so), you should NEVER use such a huge % of your roll to take live poker shots. I suggest you practice a while on stars low limit games - you don't even have to be a winner, I'm crushing live "regs" and I always sucked at online poker.

Below comes the only occasion someone ever folded top pair that I've seen (don't read if you don't care about poker stories, you've been warned)

T97 - 2 - 5 board (rainbow). Thing is, guy is a huge nit and he knows I'm pretty tight (usually ) as well. I bet every street (with KTss), including preflop (he c/c all the way), and then he open-folded ATcc on the river. Problem is, I thought I was value-betting all the way through.

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold.

I usually think I am good enough to beat those guys and I've always done so when I went to the casino in the last couple years (like ten times). And I've made like 3k playing NL25 at Stars... I dont think I am that bad... But still I have never dealt with such a huge loss in one day.

In hand 2 I had KK... Probably a little bit of tilt involved since it was the last half hour of play that night and I wanted to win it back. Gotta learn a lot lol...

I will play there again tonight though with a friend.

Then you're definitely good enough to beat that game (can't be that much different from those that run here). You just have to work on your patience / self-control. Live is a lot slower than multitabling (hell, even one-tabling) online. Discipline yourself, and you will win

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold.

This is a good spot to be results oriented, since it proves how bad fish are and how much junk they call with. I fully expect hands like this, QT, Axcc, KJ, 78, etc. It is no surprise someone turned over T7.

I think it'd be fine if he isoed after 5 limpers, and got 1-2 callers, and play it like that, not when whole table calls.

I'm usullay killer in live games, and I think thiz is a bit poo. Much better to be other end of the spectrum and stack people who want to get it in here with the Ace.

Maybe we can get TT or longple to come share some insight.

Even if fish show up here with random garbage there are way better spots to get it in on a limited roll. If your playing in a game your roll is to small for you really want to be controlling pot size, $500 more into a $180 pot? I know it's nitty but it's 10% of your roll, there are way better spots and him showing up with 10/7cc proves that, just my opinion.

NewbSaibot   United States. Aug 04 2012 21:24. Posts 4946

Well yeah I agree, if you cant be happy about shoving then you should probably reconsider. I'm never thrilled to shove AA on a KT9cc board.

bye now
