looking for some advice on what to get for a laptop, preferably something under $1k. it's mostly for school, i won't need it for gaming or anything. just something that's easy to carry around, has a good/functional keyboard, and won't be annoyingly slow with a few tabs open. i was thinking one of the 13" ultrabooks, macbook is a bit more than i want to spend though.
i've read some reviews on a couple sites but still feel like a fish, so any suggestions are appreciated.

I spent $1k on my laptop a year ago and it's decent for gaming and it's a 17". I think you can find a 13" that does what you're asking for at about $500. |

Ive bought a cheep 11inch laptop (~300$), mostly for taking notes at school, as i also have a desktop, and im very happy with it. 11inch are extremely convenient to carry around, but if you plan to work on some documents on that, i think 13" would be better. I guess you should be looking for something with intel i3, 4gb ram, led display and 6cell battery - win7 will run without any problems, with 5+ hours of battery life. I cant think of any other feature or parameter that you should be concerned about. You should be able to get a laptop like that well under the 1k mark, i think ( http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy...i3+1+40+GHz+11+6+inch+Laptop+4GB+320G )

Dm1z from hp should be around 400. Gizmodo and engadget have favoreable reviews.
Also alienware's m11x is a beautiful machine if u can get over the "gamey" ness of it and it goes on sale often for 700 |

I would steer clear from ASUS. Fucking hate my $1500 ASUS laptop fwiw. But yeah, like barbieman said, you can find what you're looking for very easily for much cheaper than 1k. Poke around on the interwebs man :D |
