From my experience, no one even watches the surveillance cameras unless they are reviewing the footage after an incident to search for evidence. Most security guards would rather watch TV or something while they are on duty in the surveillance room. However, the footage does come in handy when problems arise, since it's very hard to dispute video footage as evidence lol. This is from my observations at a headquarters of a worldwide company by the way.
If the company can afford setting up and maintaining the cameras, there really is not much of a downside. From the employee's perspective, you shouldn't expect to have so much privacy while at work, at least I certainly would not. If having cameras at your work place would cause you stress, it's probably because you are doing things that are forbidden at work(i.e. stealing property, falsely reporting hours worked, etc.) or things that your manager would not approve of(i.e. cell phone usage, excessive conversation with coworkers to avoid spending time actually working, etc.). |
