Read this today and it got me thinking. It looks like the accused could be facing serious time.
Something strikes me a bit wrong about the government being able to incarcerate you for selling your own body in a situation specific to this case (i.e. not human trafficking/dodginess)
Wondering how LP feels.

In a free world, government shouldn't be telling us who you can't sleep with. If you meet a chick at a Starbucks, I should be allowed to have sex with her long as its consensual. It shouldn't be labeled as a crime just because money is exchanged. If I take the same girl out to a dinner, buy her few stuff and then fuck her, why is that now legal? To me, It's the same money out of your pocket.

Personally, it's not a service I use, but I really don't see any reason why it should be illegal, morally. Infact, it being legal would probably eliminate a great deal of the business' shadier sides.
The fact that there's like.... 5094509830945890348509 'massage' parlors in Korea (can guarantee you it's harder to find a real massage place than a brothel) probably influenced my views somewhat.
Hm.. Off-suite socks..

The problem lies in the fact that there's a lack of logic in policymaking. It's always easier for a politician to get elected on a position that's anti-drug, anti-prostitution, etc because it offends the least amount of people. There's no reason for them to enact change in the status quo unless they think it can get them re-elected

yes it's extremely hypocritical considering the government buys more than bodies and buys lives through military.
must be some connotation with buying sex specifically

I absolutely don't know US policy or law on this. But in some countries (like France) prostitution is legal but prostitues soliciting is not. And obviously running a prostitution business is not either.
But it does result in a strange situation, where prostitutes have the right to do their business and thus can fill their tax declaration with this, but they can't "promote" themself and have no place to do it.
sorry for shitty english.

i think its illegal because when laws were written 200 years ago everyone was a catholic/christian and in religion these types of acts are frowned upon Laws need to evolve with the new age, problem is that it takes forever to make any kind of change when it comes to government / law
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same

Didn't read any of the thread.
Have no idea if this relates to OP but it might:
If prostitute's motive is to have sex for money and she is coerced in 0 way...
in the words of that referee on that silly puddy show celebrity deathmatch:
