First I'd like to show you a very cool and new website for funding a business in the US.
think kickstarter for business - http://www.crowdfunder.com/
Now at the moment they only have a contribute portion, they will be adding equity and debt based funding as well. I think this is an amazing idea that will hopefully become very popular - it is very hard to raise capital for a business and banks have tightened down a ton on loans. So all you entrepreneurs out there pay attention and check this site out!
Personally I'll probably be going through this site within a year. I want to show how successful my business is and it's potential with additional funding.
Other things
------------
I just filed my taxes today, balls I got bent over hard again this year - anyone have any ideas that will help increase my deductions higher than the standard deductions? I realize owning a house would help considerably but I'll be in my apartment until at least fall.
I got my first mentor, she has been a business owner of a few companies which she built up and sold off - now is a president of a company that does business pretty much all over the world. I'm really looking forward to learning how she effectively networks as well as pick her brain about her business start ups.
One thing I am looking to do to jumpstart my network is volunteer - I volunteered maybe 40 hours last year all together which when I think of is really not much. I've made a goal of 100 volunteer hours for this year. About a full day a month which is totally doable.
Going alongside becoming more active in my community I'm in the process of joining a few local organizations such as the Lions Club, and also a few business owner associations to get my name out around town a bit more.
Anyways I hope all is well LP and have a good day :D

Basically "geek squad" which is a computer repair business connected with best buy. The interesting thing here is theya have no major competition, so I know I have a niche market that needs this company, they overprice services because they can and they simply burn and turn customers because where else will they go. There are individuals who offer services on craigslist and we all know a buddy or a family member who can repair a computer. Same can be said about cars, yet we pay for an oil change.
So yeah build a company to rival geeksquad with exceptional customer service by passionate individuals that want to help keep people connected to the modern age. I also feel technology is a way to advance the world and bring it together, not sure if you guys have heard of the laptop.org movement. Basically 199 buys a laptop for a child in the developing world. Id like to donate a percent of all profit to this organization in the future, and ofc donate to local foundations. |

One of the things my mentor is going to help me with is making edits to my business plan. As soon as I feel comfortable with my final version id be more than happy to share it if people are interested. |

I like ur geek squad idea. I hope u do well. I know lots of angels and VC but mostly active in Canada. But as an advice I can tell you. Do not put a single dollar into your own biz. If you can not bring outside fund into your idea then chances are you are up to no good. Don't give up the kitchen sink when raising money. But DEFINITELY talk to some angels before putting any time into your biz.
PS: how is this crowd funding not illigal? In Canada u can not invest in a private company unless u are family, friend, or accredited investor. This is to reduce the number of bankruptcies and protect average joe against fraud. Seems like USA is on its way to financial hell in a hand basket. |

In the US, they passed some legislation last year that legalized crowdfunding: http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/...legislation-to-legalize-crowdfunding/ |
