http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/world...26/North-Korea-under-martial-law.html

I think the telegraph might lean a little towards sensationalism in their reporting but still a bit concerning.

From a geo-political standpoint the situation in the Korean peninsula is very tense. China in particular is in a very precarious position with regards to somewhat needing the status quo situation in Korea and at the same time being irritated at the position North Korea threatens to put them into if they were to actually act out toward South Korea or US Military bases.

Oddly enough, this is all also tied into the situation in Syria.

I know North Korea has more or less been a pretty sick bluffer for the past few decades but there are a lot more indicators than usual that things are getting pretty dicey.

I, for one, am perpetually nervous about the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

What do you guys think?

This is genuinely disturbing, especially since the situation in the Middle East has made every major power in the world very uncomfortable. Then again, I bet China wouldn't support North Korea if it made a move against the South, they're getting tired of Kim rattling the saber even without a direct confrontation going on. In all honesty, the North Korean government is playing very stupid games, so it winning some equally stupid prizes like loosing China's backing seems like a matter of time.

i'm from south korea, and when i was younger, i used to go to elementary school at SK, and they taught us the most important thing was tolerance and unity.

Kind of like how all the contestants at the Ms. Universe or Ms. World competitions say that their dream is "World peace" we were taught to say that our dream was "Coexistence" with N korea and how peace was our ultimate goal.

But then you have to understand that a life time of believing your "president" is god and born on a mountain with a double rainbow has to be pretty hard to reverse. Add the fact that they don't feed your family if you dissent, it's fairly obvious why the nation follows suit.

something that blew my mind though was this video of kim jong il's grandson and how moderate he is .

There's always articles on how North Korea is pushing the envelope, and "this seems like it could be the tipping point and shit is gonna go down soon."

When in reality, North Korea does shit to piss people off, and then they stop or step back just enough to not get attacked.

Not too long ago, the USA sent them food in return of them stopping their missile testing or whatever. I think the North went back on their word after they got the food.

Anyway, don't worry, cuz they wont do shit.

Edit, I forgot to mention that the Western media blows shit out of proportion, especially USA.
Most people in the Western world probably aren't aware that North Korea opens up its doors 2-3 times a year for the people in South Korea to come visit their family in the north.

google recently released a detailed north korea map

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2013/01/201312965914906538.html.

hard to say what's going to happen in north korea, there is very little info to go on. The country is sooo brainwashed and isolated it could be a long time until their country's government collapses.

almost 0% chance they will ever go to war with anyone tho imo.

There's been a few small bombings quite throughout the 90's, one terrorist on a Flight who confessed to being told to bomb the plan with direct orders from Kim Jong Il.

I think it's quite silly for them to spend millions of dollars on their nuclear program and leave half the nation starving without the intent to use it right?

North Korea is not going to try anything as long as they have the Chinese backing them. On the other hand, if they lose all the support and financial aid they might actually get desperate and start a war. The country can't really support itself alone and all its rulers care about is their own well being - so if they suspect their population might actually overthrow them because there's nothing left to eat, they might actually pull the trigger just to stay in power a bit longer.

i never understood the "north korean situation" in every aspect
whenever i read about them its just fucking retarded in every way

my oppinion is that even if they get close to real dangerous and communication is futile then neighboring powers like china, japan even mb the usa will just slap them down as you would an annoying fly
