Stop, don't shoot. Yet. I'm not trying to become one.
Just randomly thinking about the subject. In a way I feel bad for them.

Risk 40bb to steal the blinds + open raise for a whopping total of $0.09 or, if called, probably flip or worse.
And how do you get enough value out of your top hands?

Turning a cashgame, in which you're (stackwise) in no way limited to play
to the best of your ability, into a MTTish format where your stacksize
kinda dictates what you're supposed to do pre-flop.

Voluntary.

And it's not like the majority of the players are super aggressive or open raise way to many hands.
They rather limp. Or, even if that was the case, wouldn't it be better to have more money behind?

It's 2NL!

But the real question is: how do you get to this point?
The point where you're unable to beat the lowest of cashgames, but more important, the
point where losing $2 becomes a problem.

The point where you should have considered quitting, two years ago.

the rake is the main reason it's dumb to shortstack that low

yeah but other than that just shows diversity of poker world. not 100% sure about that because I never dig deeper into that topic but I guess its possible to make at least BE short stack strategy - simply because most likely people dont know pf ranges that well, I'd guess that let's say at NL25 most people are probably too tight vs shortstacks so shorts have strategy that benefit from FE and other are too loose because they dont know how exactly they should expand their ranges. so some can choose to go that way, build strategy for stress-free, mass multitabling grind with huge variance but most likely ok profits from RB on some euro sites

you're prolly talking about fishes on 2nl lol, never seen a 40bb reg on 2nl. in regard to shortstacking strategy, it's very profitable because alot of people don't know how to play against 20-40bb effective. They mostly open way too wide (especially LP where some regs open 50% against a shortstacker in the BB) and fold way too much to 3bets/shoves.

This is kinda contradictory, first you poke fun at them for playing 2nl. But I bet you didn't find out there are shortstackers on 2nl by just observing tables, in fact you probably play on 2nl yourself. Secondly a shortstacking strategy is not cause you can't afford the buy in, it's because you have a mathematical advantage.

Just venting about something that I find annoying on, what I consider, the right place to do so; my blog.

Maybe get some new insights from other members.

Not making fun of 2NL at all, and yes I play there.
Just think the advantage shortstaking brings, does not outweigh the value of being able to bet a full stack at 2NL. That's the redline.

Maybe the last few sentences ruin my point?

I don't think you realize that not every player cares about winning and some just want to throw around some money to have fun.

A lot of these people have probably never seen a poker forum discussion nor do they care. Just just play with their buddies and put a few bucks online for low risk entertainment. Clearly, this type of play benefits stronger players and increases the opportunity for success. Though you and almost everyone on a site like this have the mentality of getting better and being good, others do not share that mentality.
