Cashing out :/

I'm moving flat, and work has been really slow lately.
Basically I do direct sales, and the product we had was free but they changed it from everyone can get it to only poor people on benefits can get it and my earnings dropped fro $700/week to below $300. I made just $160 last week, although yesterday I ran hot and made $160 in one day.

Luckily from tomorrow we will be doing new stuff - hard to treat walls basically it's a $1500job for free for everyone regardless of poor or rich and I get paid $100 for one so money will start rolling in again plus in a few weeks I will be selling alarm systems for $160 per pop, should be easy to make $800+per week if I run hot, but there is a lot of swings in sales and we get pay with a 2 week delay.

sales is kinda like poker
the more hands you playpeople you speak to the more money you make are as long as you can avoid tilting keep positive attitude and keep studying and working on your lines, thought process, 3betting etc. pitch, turning negatives closing etc.
It's a lot of variance and negatives in both, just in poker it's hands you lose and in sales it's negative people. Plus you have the whole building teams stuff in sales which I'm not into so much so far, ima selfish bastard

So I will have to Cash Out
To bridge expenses related to moving. I have a rule that I never put money back into poker apart from the initial fiddy bucks so I will have to cut my BR by 40-50% basically.
The good news is that the flat I'm moving into is a cheaper as I'm moving in with my director from work so after I get settled I should never have to cash out ever again and can finally do what I wanted to do in the first place - treat poker purely as a serious hobby and never be afraid to play the highest stakes possible just because if I blow up I lose deposit money.

I will just end up with graphs update since deposited $50, I play a lot more cautiously than I'd have to if I didn't know that I need the money, and it's affecting me especially when I play NL50.
Once I cashout get settled I will be a lot more aggressive, because I find it's a lot ore fun when you know you can make 20% of your BR in once day if you have a huge session, just helps me focus more and brings out the inner gamble to a healthy amount

BR is at $2136, but will have take it down to $1300 or even $1000 :/

if you have an alternate stream of income, especially to the tune of a full time job, then your bankroll is infinite and you can play whatever stakes you want. Shortstack a single buyin at 25/50 if you feel like it Once you get over the fear of going busto, and recognize that your bankroll is the culmination of every future deposit you might make for the next 20 years, you should feel a lot better about playing whatever limit you feel like. Plus you have the added benefit of knowing a couple of things about the game so you may not end up depositing often at all.

bye now

I dunno I wouldn't play poker if I knew I'm the donkey in the games.

Plus a career in sales is never stable, you don't know what can happen it's good to have something stable like poker to fall back where you can just grind it out 12hrs/day for a stable income

Really poker is always here, but especially in outsourced sales the clients can pull a product within 24hours and I'm fucked pretty much (although it's super easy to find a sales job, you are never safe in the one you're in).

of course, obviously if you would tax winnings any legit government would have to allow you to deduct losses, am I right?

In the USA you deduct losses or net your winnings depending on your circumstances and how you are filing.

In the UK, I have read there is a 0% tax rate on gambling winnings, and was one of the few countries in the world to do this. Is that correct?

Dunno bout UK, but I know it's like this in Canada. When you hear on the news someone winning $35 mill, they win 35 mill.

I'm the furthest thing from a tax expert, but I do remember what you are saying to be true years ago. I seem to recall that Canada has started taxing poker players as of a few years ago.

Yeah but if you lose 20k over the course of a year can you deduct this from your other taxable earnings??
If you win 500k one year and lose 400k the next are you down overall?? These things seem crazy - like how can they take if you win but not give anything back when you lose

sucks, !Also yes there is no tax on gambling winnings here, there is talks about taxes coming in but it looks like they are likely to hit the online providers and not poker players (online gambling taxes not gambling income taxes afaik)

poker is soooo much easier when you flop setsLast edit: 20/02/2013 00:05

GL graph looks really good, don't get too out of line with your BRM though.

variance has negative sides just as positive sides, you can also lose 20% of your BR in a day.

Ye I have university degree, experience in finance dept of largest bank and worked for Meltwater, but all that stuff was boring, I don't really feel like getting a standard job (unless I get a family maybe my view will change). I like working on pure commission work self employed be my own boss, the money is the same/better when you do really good and you get to manage people super fast. Sales is sales really be it B2B B2C, although the product we do now is too technical/easy to sign people up and I want something where I will learn again :/
