Long time no blog. I didn't play a hand of poker for a year now and feel pretty good about it.
Much has happend over the year.
Finished my first major in international business and almost finished my second major in finance and accounting.
Got a job in a large bank as an analyst in the business intelligence team.
So all is good I guess

But this post is about programming! Recently I started learning computer science and I love it! It gave me a whole new perspective when I think about solving problems. I found an interesting video that shows why everybody should learn to code:

I have been learning how to programm for 6 months now and I am finally getting to a point where I can write something usefull
I learned Python, HTML, CSS, and javascript and am all set up to write web aplications and I hope I will be able to write a simple site by the end of the month.

If anybody wants to learn programming I recommend some MOOC (masive open online courses) like MIT OCW or udacity.com

Cheers

I'd recommend, for anyone who wants to start out programming, to focus on one language solely for at least a few months.

You will see far better development than if you mix a bunch together and be better set to train yourself in others.

I recently started learning C# and think I will be able to get a job programming at the company I work for. I have an interview for a spot in a training class for an entry-level programming position next week so hopefully that goes well. I really like programming so far and will definitely be checking out those sites you listed. They look very promising!

MIT has a great course on introduction to computer science. Learned a lot watching those lectures. As for Udacity, they have great teachers for example Sebastian Thrun the main person behind google self driving car and Peter Norvig who is the director of research at google and a guru in artificial intelligence. Also their courses are very interactive and You have to solve problems every 5 minutes or so in the online interpreter which is very nice since the best way to learn is by practice.

IMO the MIT courses are more structured and logical and the udacity courses are sometimes chaotic but highly interactive and fun to do.

Don't whant to share my salary on a public forum but I can tell You that it's avarage for someone with experience but good for a guy with no experience and fresh out of uni.
If I told You the actual number You would probably lol, because people in GB get paid way more then employees in Poland. From the info I collected on various employment boards a business intelligence specialist in London gets about 50k pounds a year. I'm almost sure the manager! of the team here in Poland gets nowhere near that.

As for python, thanks for the resources Ket. Will definately check them out although I prefer watching video tutorials then reading docs.

Today was my first try to deploy my web aplication on a production server and it was a debugging nightmare. Hopefully things will go more smoothly in the future
