I watched a ton of motivational videos and they never worked for me (even thou they made me feel good for the next 15minutes - 1 hour)

The only thing i find real motivation from is going from struggling to improvement.

hmm you could call it a motivation theory or you could call it being a normal human being.

this all goes back to karl marx's theorys of alienation, and before that adam smith on how the division of labor destroyed human beings, and also Dostoyevskys quote about people going mad without meaningful work.

In dan arielys study it showed that people are willing to work harder for less money for meaningful work. (work that isn't destroyed before their very eyes)

http://people.duke.edu/~dandan/Papers/Upside/meaning.pdf

'Despite the fact that the physical task requirements and the wage schedule were identical in the two conditions, the subjects in the Meaningful condition built significantly more Bionicles than those in the Sisyphus condition. In the Meaningful condition, subjects built an average of 10.6 Bionicles and received an average of $14.40, while those in the Sisyphus condition built an average of 7.2 Bionicles and earned an average of $11.52. The histograms for the number of Bionicles made in each condition are reported in'

There need to be much more studies done in alienation, not just for labor but for education and the media as well. Education imo should not have tests often or at all, as they tell people how intelligent/good they are and that alienates them completely, putting them into a meaningless competitive atmosphere instead of pursuing creative endeavors. People say that education shouldn't teach morals, but giving test scores imbues a certain morality in them.

anarchist/anthropologist david graeber has also pointed to the meaninglessness of bullshit jobs: http://www.strikemag.org/bullshit-jobs/

as well as bertrand russell: http://www.zpub.com/notes/idle.html

its a recurrent question that is asked throughout history, not just by intellectuals but probably by every human being on the planet.
