if the aesthetics and the fact that it's super thin is very important to u then go for it.

if u want something that can run games well etc then don't bother. It's all about what YOU want from the computer not what i want... i currently run a Lenovo Y500. 3rd gen i7 core, 8gb dd4 ram, 1 tb hd, 20 gb SSD hd, nvidia m750 graphics, etc. got this for 800 as well but it's also about 3x bigger and prob 2x heavier. But it'll outperform that any day of the week.

really solid deal up right now for a comparable laptop as mine...slightly worse in some ways but it'll run like a beast for most applications.

hi guise. this is the laptop that i have been using for the pay 6+ years. through lugging this around in dual strap backpacks, single strap backpacks, i now have shoulders and shrug muscles, and back muscles that are extremely tired and sore.

form factor and ease of use are the most important qualities to me. currently i am only considering the macbook air, and the surface pro2. macbook air is 800, vs what i am imagining ~1k with surface pro + keyboard. let me know if u run into any other options.

samsung has some very sexy laptops that are comparably thin and light too. I would look into those...might get a better bang for your buck than macs.

basically unless you do video editing/processing, heavy photo manipulation etc a pc will be better/cheaper for most applications you can do. I mean you can spend a few hundred bucks on top of the spendy macbook price to get a windows os to piggyback off the ios so it'll run better with some apps...but is that worth the money?

That dell laptop is awesome and good. Sold one on ebay other day for 150$ and its super old. Macbook Airs arent that great besides the SSD flash drive. Just go with a pro man. Macbook Airs if out of apple care warranty are a pain in the ass too fix. The henges get messed up a lot too it seems. Just go with the retina display pro and buy a sicko ssd.

cliffs;

airs are expensive to fix if out of warranty because repair techs hate working on them ( me included )
pros are awesome for gaming / anything really
can get retina dislpay which gives u awesome resolution
can just install a ssd and it will start up quick like an air.

yeah the air is... portable....woo.... no super drive (yeah i know everything is digital download but still)
im surprised they havent discontinued the air yet.

And dont listen to these people saying oh just get a PC you can get it cheaper with same specs. Dont get me wrong they are absolutely correct. BUT there is some cons... Windows is just plain shit. Viruses all the time, takes forever to start up. Plus they dont hold there value for shit really. Macs hold there value extremely well... Even the old iBook G4's I can still sell for around 100$ and they are 10 years old. Please tell me a PC laptop 10 years old that you can get money for. For the most part you have to pay osmeone to take it off your hands. Your macbook will be your friend for a very long time to come. And did i mention no viruses?

im a a big (and hipocritical cuz i have an iPad/iPhone) apple hater, but now i understand why people buy it.

Some people just dont mind over spending in a easy to use high quality item, and you almost always get that from apple, they dont care to make research to get a more powerful laptop for half the price, and since they have other apple items it just works for them.

I have the latest gen lenovo yoga 13. Paid $1050 direct from lenovo, i5, 128gb ssd, 8gb ram, touch screen. It's great as a laptop, not very good as a tablet (but has the option if needed). Screen isn't as good as a macbook pro, but that's the only area it loses in imo

I click buttons.

how lp works

step1: make fun of apple for being over priced

step2: suggest laptops from other brands that are more costly than 800 macbook air

step3: make fun of op for being stupid enough to consider purchasing macbook air

profit

I'm sorry I didnt realize the version of photoshop for mac rendered images differently than the version for windows.

Anyway the macbook air is a well engineered well designed machine. If your goal is an e-machine that's light as fuck, has great battery life, and can be taken anywhere with you, it's a great device. I mean the damn thing is practically in tablet territory when it comes to convenience. If you want some hardcore number crunching machine that can play the latest video games, well then get a PC. If you feel the need to carry this kind of power around with you then you're doing it wrong.

The Air caters to a very particular market that has nothing to do with being a fanboy. The only reason I havent bought one is because the need does not exceed the cost. If I could get one for $500 I'd snatch it in an instant. Apple recognized that 99% of the time while using a laptop, you dont need 10 fucking usb ports, dvd drive, terrabytes of storage, etc etc etc. Most people just need to surf the web and not have their battery die in less than 3 hours. For everything else, go back to your desk.

bye now

if u balla enough to pay extra for the mac go for it of not there's cheaper alternatives. and the no virus thing is meh...i guess if you're completely computer illiterate then macs is the nuts too. Apple has always bragged about being "safest" when a simple google search can render their bullshit marketing yet again useless.

For the past 8 years they have bragged about being the "best" and "innovative" phone as well...lol

again apple is catering to a person who can burn an extra 800 bucks to get that 2nd, 3rd...whatever laptop/tablet toy they want. It's not cuz the product is especially amazing overall or a better alternative than other products as your main source of computing..because that definitely isn't in most cases (don't get me wrong it is in some ways a great product. they are beautifully crafted and have a great feel not to mention very good hardware). But trying to justify that over another comparable product that's similar but 1/2 the cost is like buying a thin sexy looking armani shirt for $200 over the $20 generic brand...you're paying for the brand name.
