Been playing on Bovada's "Zone Poker" tables, which is their equivalent to rush/zoom poker. Of course being bovada means all the players are anonymous too, so there's zero reads/tells other than stack size and preflop activity. Not even a HUD can be used for tracking. That being said, I've had some success half-stacking these games. 50BB is the minbuy, and it seems to me like there's not much point playing fullstacked or deepstacked because you have no idea who your opponents are and what they payoff with. By avoiding fullstack play you deny them the odds/opportunity to effectively draw against you, and can more comfortably stack off with top pair since you have no idea who you're up against and how they play postflop. Any time I double up I just reload the table to buy back in for 50BB's.

My understanding of deepstack poker and even draws for that matter is entirely predicated on if your opponent pays off when you hit. With no reads I just dont see how you can draw effectively because you never know if you're getting paid off anyway. But the risk of getting oversetted or AA/KK and stuff seems much worse 300BB's deep against random players who cover.

If every hand is essentially in a vacuum, does it make sense to buy in for less to limit your exposure to big losses?

What limits? If you are better than your opponents and they often pay you off with weak hands and call draws too much it makes no sense at all.

If you are a losing player then it's better for sure!

Why does Bovada do this with the "everything is anonymous, not even a HUD". Seems like it would be kind of crappy to play there, other then apparently the players there are extremely soft.

This made me giggle.

I guess what it boils down to is my newfound approach to each hand to stop and ask myself "how do I make money here?" on every street. Problem is when you dont know your opponent, how do you answer that question when all you have is a draw?

Bovada felt there was a market out there for pure fish, to attract only the casual players who just want to gamble with a couple of buyins and call it a day. These are the reloaders, the source of all income in the poker economy. They felt recreational players dont like being stalked. And a lot of fish are aware of HUD's and what not, and either choose not to use them or just ignore it and feel cheated when they lose. So bovada made it impossible to track players in the hopes that fish would like this, even if they dont get an identity of their own. I tend to agree. It's nice to know that if I made some boneheaded play and lost that my opponent cant use that against me in the future.

The players are worse, thats for sure. Like mindbogglingly worse, even at high limits. I've railed a 10/20 game before and seen a half stacker limp pre then open shove Q8o on a 8K3ss flop. And at NL50 I look over the previous nights hands and see people defending their blind with J6s and min3bet defending with K4o etc. Lot of random button mashing.

simple math? and for implied odds just play v average player at your limit.

And your approach should be "which line is the most +ev against his range" and by "his range" I mean a range of an average player at your limit when there is 0chance to distiguish one player from another (stack sizes should help tho)

I am kind of idealess about all of the shortstacking strategies and all, but from what I'm reading so are you .. Shortstacking is much more mathematically orientated and ranges differ depending on the way you shortstack. Anyways I just would not do it.

Yeah I mean it's not shortstack, it's 50BB minbuy, so it's half stack. Do you think that changes things a little? That seems like the ideal stackot ratio for overpairs and top pair value bets. Draws are kinda worthless to play for 50BB's since you're like shoving rivers for 25BB when you hit. The incentive is just not there.
