what is this reference "barred the fuck out"

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the time

badgering an employer for status updates on your application is a quick way to never get hired.

What, no, disagree.

I generally follow-up on all my interviews. It shows I want it and I'm serious about the position. That being said there's a right and wrong way to do it.

That was the first time I introduced myself to her. No badgering there, I would think. Though, I do wonder if going there tomorrow would seem as if though I am badgering. I had hopes for this job, too. I should stop doing that.

You sending them a resume lets them know you are interested and serious about the position. You think you're the first person to surmise "maybe I should call cuz, ya know, i want to look serious"? No, everybody thinks this, which is why it's annoying for hiring managers.

A piece of paper is not an indicator of you being serious or even a real person. Introducing yourself, if the field/situation is not inappropriate (i.e., badgering), is good because it is like you forcing a miniature interview. It's not categorically a mistake or annoying or a problem. It puts a face to your shitty resume that is identical to everyone else's. If your impression is good that can accelerate you or stop your resume from being recycled if it didn't catch their eye. And if your impression is bad then it would have been bad at an interview anyway so all you did was save yourself the hassle while trying to give yourself a little edge.

If you're in the business of hiring people but loathe having to talk to them you may be a douchebag. And in that case, introducing yourself helps you quickly discover whether the person hiring you is a douchebag and whether you are incompatible already.

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

This. I really wish I followed up on more applications, but I don't. I need to work on that in the future.

Followed up with a call, got an interview today. Seriously, following up is very important.

Before i got a job at a gym when i was 18 i filled out like at least 6 applications. Kept pestering. Even watched on like my 4th application fill out the guy threw it away. But i kept trying and eventually he said fuck it and hired me. He ended up becoming one of my best friends.

In today's economy it's not uncommong for a manager to receive over 100 resumes. If every one of those cocksuckers called for "status updates" do you realize how infuriating that would be? The interview is where you show yourself off, not some sort of "forced mini interview". Who the hell wants to be forced to interview someone at a totally unscheduled inconvenient time while they are trying to work? How awkward is that going to be for the manager on the phone "well um, yes sir I have your resume. We are still looking over candidates, yes I see you are really special and all, we'll get back to you if we are ready to move forward. *hangs up*. Fucking christ*". It's an aged old fallacy that you somehow make yourself look more interested by "following up". You just make yourself look desperate. I take it all of you advocating this line of application probably have every little employment experience.

Top shelf lel newb. It's not something that makes you stand out, not following up makes you stand OUT of the picture. Though, if you're applying for a corporation or big company, you follow up with a letter.
