1st 10K, Thank You Liquid Poker! |
|
1 | |
Greetings all,
I finally hit the 10k profits mark a couple of days ago in live play, so thought it was time to make a blog just saying 'thanks'.
I finished clearing a backing agreement (a friend was backing me 1/3) to play $2/5, and had won about 2k the month before this graph, so there's the 10K. This includes $20/session for transportation costs, so if that's added back I'm actually up an additional 1200 or so.
(Blue Line is session result, Orange is Cumulative Result, the dotted lines are trend lines)
Every data entry is a session, ranging from 4 to 12 hours (7 is probably my average)
I won't get too much into my background atm, as I doubt people really have an interest in that anyway. I've done a ton of study/work compared to how much I've played in the last 2 years, lots of theoretical stuff; as such my learning of the game has been quite irregular. There are many advanced concepts I'm comfortable with, but lots of holes in my knowledge and experience throughout. I've actually studied it harder after black-friday than before, and as such most of my studies have been tied to a GTO approach than an exploitative approach (because there was nobody for me to practice against to try to exploit).
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for all the help LP! There have been a lot of insightful posts and comments here from so many of you, it has helped my thinking and approach to learning the game immensely. I know some of my posts and questions are pretty noobish, so I appreciate you guys putting up with them. I would like to think I could add some interesting or insightful comments of my own every once in a while, though I feel that most of the active posters are better than me at 90% of the aspects of the game. Perhaps I can take a crack at giving help, and then when I say something retarded one of you guys who can actually play the game can come in and put me in my place.
Thanks again, and Cheers.
~Nathan

nice work.
just out of curiosity, why don't you play online? it seems like it would be much better-suited for your GTO-approach. granted the live games are probably much softer, but you could do both, and playing online would give you more practice + a quicker solid sample of hands to evaluate. |

I'm actually a resident of the USA, so trying to play online has been frustrating. I've tried to meet people on the internet and play with play-chips, which is pretty lame (although over time I have run into 2 people who were helpful to me in this regard).
The 'HungarianGOD' handle is just a reference to my idol Franz Liszt, the great Hungarian pianist! |

Bovada is super soft, takes us players, and generally cash out take less than 2 weeks. |

Is it reasonable to get funds in a Bovada account or is it super hard? I had a lot of difficulty getting money into a carbon poker account. |

Nice one. Regarding the studying, was this live poker specific? If so do you have any books or threads to recommend? I play a lot of live and always looking to get some more theory. |

Fairly easy, took me about 30 mins between going to cvs to get prepaid card and actually depositing. There is an entire thread on 2+2 devoted to depositing/cashing out on bovada. |

My studying had nothing to do with live poker, I had to make extremely significant adjustments in my play for moving to a live game. There were some interested threads and ideas I've come across I could toss your way if I remember them, but most of what I did was construct a huge theoretical strategies, then try to learn to beat them so I could make adjustments.
What preflop raising ranges are, the % of time I'm C betting, check calling, check raising, folding certain hands on certain types of flops, turns, and rivers. To simplify, I would always have look at headsup with exact stack size, and construct preset bet sizes (so for a while I was looking at betting pot on every street or checking, then tried 1/2 or 2/3s, then I was doing different sizes for different streets, like I'd always do 2x Pre, 3/4 flop, 2/3 turn, 1/2 river, etc.). Essentially I was making a bot (though I lack the programming skills to actually do so so 'imaginary hero' would be more accurate), and then I would try to find what I would need to do to beat it, adjusting villains various ranges /strategies on different streets.
I spent like 10 hours one day trying to figure out how I thought it would be best to balance sets with draws in various situations (ie. what % of both will I jam on the flop, on the turn, etc.). Bet sizing has always been difficult for me, so I've tried to do a lot of work with that, though I'm still not happy where my understanding of it is.
