Up until now I've been using time between sessions to:
- watching family guy, new girl, movies shitloads of stuff like that
- browsing rofl thread
- time on facebook
- porn
- news portals
- watching dota pro games

I played around 90 hours this month already, 53k hands so far and brain's getting overloaded, I also ran rly bad so I am roughly breakeven for that time so really need to change the load I'm putting my mind under and start using computer more strictly for work only.

So during my maintenance day I decided I will do something pretty awesome between sessions instead
- read books
- sleep
- exercise (love shooting hoops, a public place is 5min by bike)

So far the effects are beyond awesome!
Books force my imagination to work, taking focus off poker unlike films and calm my mind etc.

last week I read these bad boys:

This week these two are on my plate:

I very much look towards recommendations.
In the past I only read text books, and books by thaleb, stumbling on happiness, economics etc. but that's not what I'm after
- I want books that are written in a way of a story, engage my imagination to the max and if they make me positively think all the better.

The instant millionaire had all of these but was super short. Carnegie is awesome, it's self development but told in a way of stories.
And Clarke is just awesome sci-fi, really engaging but positive with grand messages - development of humans our relationship to the whole universe good sci-fi that makes you think. Childhood's end was just sick good for that - the book's about utopian society where menial work doesn't exist and last chapters about what would you do if you were the last human on earth with years to spare.

I also look for fun short books that I could read between sessions and get the sense of accomplishment "fuck yeah finished a book" in short period of time. Borrowed some Hemingway so that should be fun.

Baring that in mind, what books would you recommend and what books would you read if you were to lose TV, Shows, skype and the internet forever right now?

No boobies today btw, didn't fap in a week and it seems to be good - I even had morning wood for no reason for the first time since a very long time :D I sure as hell ain't gonna stop fapping but aim is to use my imagination instead of porn.
EDIT: Books, fap without porn - seems like I'm attempting to turn back time and live like people did ages ago.

I can already tell you that the 2 books in the middle will give you nothing, it's lal kinda books, gimmicky, feel good, quick motivation for a day or two, with no real substance!!

I'm just guessing though, but I'm probably right, there are millions of books kinda like those titles, I noticed my nose did this "grunt" thingy, it does that when it comes across bullshit!!

I'll paste you what I pasted to Joeingram: http://bookpickings.brainpickings.org/tagged/creativity

Click on your category, pick a book from these lists, I've gone through several so far, all been really awesome.

you are definitely wrong about Carnegie, How to win friends and influence people changed my life. The new one is good so far. It's probably useless for just reading it once and not practicing the stuff tho, still a fun read

the instant millionaire recycles self-development points a lot but the story form is really good, but I agree it's gimmicky

You get morning wood because your body "heals" and does all kinds of shit when you sleep, that's probably laymen term, but it produces much more testosteron when you're sleeping, so you wake up with a boner!!

When I was younger, it was so bad, that I always took shower first thing when I woke, since it was difficult to pee properly, using the toilet lol. But I guess tons of guys do that.

Like seriously, the world would be so much of a better place if everyone tried to deal with others as Carnegie explains in his book
I reach just parts of the stress one, but the point he's making through stories - putting emphasis on the present is rly good as well

It's awesome you got something out of the book, just that, any good social friend would be x10 more helpful, or any other book like that, or whatever it was that made you put in effort, into becoming better at something you felt you were lacking, or struggling with. It's the effort and thought you put in that's helping you, I just hate those kinds of books. I've read tons, don't get me wrong, but I just "didn't" get it, maybe im reading them wrong, maybe I'm not following through on the practices? So I DID, but meh, just lol.

I get 100% more from an article with a little substance, than a book like that. But maybe it's not the same for everyone else.

Yay xD

I can think of 3-4 books, friends put one me "how to become friends in 60 seconds" and blabla, all of it's nice and cool, a few sciency bits on how humans work, a few body language technique, a few pitches about what senses people prefer and how you can cater to it. Not really life changing, and as powerful as people make it out to be. Tony Robbinson, cool guy, but lol, it's a bit lol. Tony Buzan, MEMORY, SPEED READING, MEMORY MAPS, THIZ IS THE FUTURE..... 3 books would be nice, he's got like 300, and travels around preaching about HOW TO REMEMBER shit, and mind is all knowing.

It's just people who study and focus really hard on learning tricks to making memory palaces, pax systems, practicing stuff. Not really as special as they try to make it out to be, 5% substance, 95% bravado about nothing, and how to "become all amazing" and trick people into thinking, read this, and you'll be super human. Most people who study how to memorize 100 numbers, have exactly the same iq as the average joe, just that they learned a few tricks on how to do it.

"Rich dad, Poor dad"

"Stupid fag, crab piss" I say lol, annoying books!

Omg... Hope I'm not a book hater, what I say isn't gospel, I hate on so many books, I don't read fantazy books, get so bored, i fall asleep, and I know tons of ppl love that shit, plow through them like it's heroin.

I'm reading this one right now for one of my classes. It's pretty good, and much different than what the average person remembers about the Frankenstein story.

I understand how you feel especially if you listened to Robbins.
You should still give Carnegie a shot, How to win Friends and Influence People is the first of all of these, and arguably still the best, it changes perspective on how you deal with others really and I swear by it. It's not like the stuff you mentioned - it's told by stories he researched, if you read it and try the stuff in real life and still don't like it come back and call me a liar.
