What do you do when poker is tilting you, and the weather in Sweden is tilting you even more? The first half of this summer has been sooo bad in Stockholm, and another 1-2 weeks of 15 degrees and rain seems to be incoming. Really feeling like going somewhere else, but where?
Going with gf for around 4-5 days, looking for it to be fairly cheap. I would prefer it to be a mixture of a cool city with beautiful nature closeby (would like to do some hiking). But I suppose a sunny place with just good nature/water environment would be OK as well, not just a tourist trap place (ie Aya Napa, Sunny Beach, Magaluf, Split and so on) with a zillion people.
Never been to Eastern Europe, so thats feels kinda interesting, ideas that popped up in my head:
- Budapest: heard the city is AWESOME, how is the countryside close by? Hiking friendly?
- Prague: same about the city, but again, how is the surrounding area if you want to see something else than just a city?
- Belgrade: friend been there and told me its super nice, and cheap, and friendly. Again, more to do than just city life?
- Croatia: really want to go here sometime, but think I wanna go for a longer time, also seems to be really "in" to go to Croatia right now, is there any place that is not overcrowded but still worth going to?
- Greece: In genereal is there a good idea to go there right now? Be a baller when everyone else suffer? Where to go to avoid the tourist trappy places?
- Spain/Portugal: I would like to try some more surfing, where are some affordable places in July? Looked at San Sebastian where I've been before, but really expensive during this season...
Ideas on these places and others would be greatly appreciated. Also would be cool if some local could tip me of their area and possible give us some guiding when there
Update: After some extensive reading I'm focusing on Macedonia (Skopje) which sounds like a perfect combination of nature and good food and very priceworthy, Budapest, Prague and maybe Malaga (not sure if priceworthy, but sounds like a cool city with some chances of surfing?). Anyone been to / living at any of these places?

Agree on the depressing summer so far. Lots of rain here too, not too far outside stockholm. As they say, the Swedish summer is the best day of the year!
Good luck, sounds like you want somewhere quiet with a bit of hilly/mountainous terrain and USA is out of bounds. I'd probably look at a holiday in France and try to rent bikes to cycle around or go walking / exploring nearby towns and countryside for the day etc. |

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN | Last edit: 10/07/2015 01:08 |

haven't been to budapest or spain, but i'd definitely vouch for Prague, been there 3 times and it got better with each visit. and it's perfectly sized for a 5 day stay. i might be a little biased since i'm a huge beer drinker, not in terms of quantity but quality, and my #1 favorite beer is Kozel - obv a czech beer.
overall its simply a _really_ beautiful and pleasant city for you to sit, calmly enjoy meals/drinks, and randomly walk around especially in the summer of course. |

I like how you name a bunch of cities, then all of a sudden it's as vague as countries lol. I suggest: Anywhere in Spain or Italy if you can afford it. They are both the nuts as far as traveling goes. If you want, PM me, and I can give you a list of ~30-40 cities to visit that are affordable and poker-legal and could be worth a visit. |

French countryside do sound like a pretty cool option, will look into it a bit as well, although the price level will definitely be higher than in Eastern Europe.

Haha yes, I did the writeup pretty messy. I have a vague idea of what I want to do, but its hard to combine city experience with sun vacation close to the water. Thats why Greece and Spain popped into my mind, but I think I will do a surf-trip on my own later this summer/fall, and focus on a city experience with some hiking this time. Again Italy is tempting but as France, more expensive.

Yeah, talked with him on Skype, Prague seems like an pretty awesome option. That or Budapest... Would really like to get in contact with someone that lives/has been in Budapest as well. Always a big + to know some local where you are going. |

Depends on what you want. If you want to chill, have a healthy life and great walks or bike rides in the city Amsterdam would be a great choice. If you want to drink beer and smoke cheap Prague yeah. If you want great beach time Sardinia has one of the best seas you could find in Europe. Best nightlife you could find in Europe is probably in Germany (I would say Hamburg - this can be debated of course but I've traveled a lot as a progamer and that was definitely the best night/party time place for me. If you want to meet stunning girls Kiev is the right place (although you have a girlfriend. Just putting it out there).
edit: I forgot London. If you want fugly weather, fugly girls and everything overpriced go for it |

I have a friend that lives in Prague and has traveled around a bit. He went camping in Croatia and it seemed really really nice. I would recommend Croatia.
Can get you in touch with him if you want.

Just forget about Skopje, its probably not the safest place to be at this point, considering there was an albanian crisis there last month. |

budapest is a beautiful city but its only good if you are not looking for the typical laying on the beach and chilling type of holiday. Very suitable for sightseeing and has lots of thermal baths, has mountains nearby for hiking.
This brochure is for example for the mountain in north budapest. http://www.dobogokokirandulas.hu/en/Trips
