If you win 10 for every 1 you lose and have a 50% win rate, what is your expected value of this proposition?

i must be getting dumb because i can't understand the question at all lol. 50% chance, yes = +10, no = -1?
.5*10 + .5*-1 = 4.5

Quote "If you win 10 for every 1 you lose "
maybe its a language thing but i dont get it........
if you have a 50% chance of winning and you win 10 but lose 1 its obviously (+10-1)*0.5 (since both happen 0,5 of the time) -> 4.5
How could this even be a question ?
Its 4th grade math
but maybe you mean something else ?
Like if every throw has the same event happening -1 and +10 your EV is obviously 9...... but than the 50% chance information is rubbish since it doesnt apply to an example where the outcame is always the same |
