I was completely out of the game, enjoying my retirement from poker as a software developer. Then I watch the Doug Polk challenge, then I start getting recommended videos on youtube, then I start to wonder if I can still beat 25NL. Well in August of last year I decided to find out! And now I've played almost 300k hands and am completely obsessed with poker again! Funny how that happens. I even went on an insane 40 buy in downswing over about 60k hands and had to get coaching. But it worked out and my winrate has been rising as I continue to improve. My winrate in FEB was just under 9bb/100 at 100nl over 25k hands, I'm hoping to get to the double digits this month. I'll probably be moving up to 200NL soon now that I'm confident I'm beating 100NL for a solid rate. Here is the overall graph since my return to poker. Almost 300k hands so far. Definitely curious who all is still around since I haven't posted in like 9 years lol. I've also been streaming a lot on Twitch recently if anyone wants to come hang out and talk hands/old times. https://www.twitch.tv/xervean

Is this pa or NJ? 9bb is currently impossible on eu stars at nl200. I doubt linus could break 7bb there |

This is on Bovada where even higher than 9bb is possible hahaha. It has among the worst software on the internet, limits you to 4 tables, and is incredibly slow. You get about 250 hands an hour 4 tabling. You can play zone which is their version of zoom but I find winrates to be much lower in those games. It's extremely difficult to identify fish unless they are short stack or happen to limp. Also the toughest regs in the USA are typically grinding those. So I've kind of settled on 4 tabling regular tables for now. |

Yeah I love crypto also. You should checkout bovada/ignition, it's kind of the land that time forgot. Although the games are harder now than they were a few years ago, there are tons of fish everywhere and after midnight USA it's pretty damn wild especially on the weekends. |

Yeah I totally get it, you used to play much higher than me (when I wasn't tilting my roll off lulz). It was a tough pill for me to swallow when I realized I had to get coaching to beat 50z for a decent rate because I was about 0.4 bb/100 adjusted after about 80k hands. It was shocking because I was winning 10bb/100 adjusted at 25z and the games became exponentially tougher one level up. But I kind of just got addicted to the challenge and luckily the money at those stakes isn't meaningful to me so I just focused on trying to win and beat people like in a video game. And looking back thats the approach I should have taken my entire poker career. LOL |

No I just fire up 4 regular speed tables and play whoever is there, but there are always 1-2 fish on every table on Bovada. I actually joined Poker Detox CFP at the beginning of Feb and so I'm learning and implementing their exploitative mass data analysis strategy. So I'm actually becoming more and more maniacally aggressive with each passing day and my winrate keeps increasing. It's a very fun and exciting way to play. Definitely not nut peddling anymore. lol
The reason I decided to go that route was that I realize the value of information and working a full time job I really don't have time to do all the research and strategy development myself and still put in volume. This is a good way to not have to second guess myself and have a complete strategy at my disposal. Very happy with it so far. |

Nice, I heard that site dried up. All of the US state pokerstars sites are soft as hell last time i looked. (15bb+100 at all stakes is doable, imo). |

Its definitely a lot tougher than it was a few years ago but its still extremely soft compared to other sites. Like there are always 1-2 fish and sometimes more per table at the regular speed ones.
Thats awesome that those US pokerstars sites are so soft. Unfortunately I live in Oklahoma which has Indian casinos and they probably bribe people to block that stuff. lol |

Would love to hear more about this maniacally aggressive style. What's the goal? I'm sure you're living quite comfortably with the SWE job so it must be for the competition/love for the game. |

Yeah I'm living quite comfortably and don't need any of the money generated, so my plan is actually to just use my winnings to acquire more and more bitcoin for long term holding. Also I think at this point it really is just mostly for the sake of competition that I'm putting in volume. I think I mentioned above that I tuned in to most of the Doug Polk vs Negreanu streams JoeIngram1 was hosting with Landon Tice. And there was just something about the excitement and passion they kind of still had for the game, especially Landon, that got me kind of wondering if I could still win in the modern era. Also I always kind of felt like I had a little unfinished business in poker since I blew my opportunity to make a lot of money during the boom due to being a tilting degen at the time. You can probably read over some old threads on here for the lulz. I went busto countless times and then grinded up from nothing only to have a few bad sessions and go busto again tilting high stakes trying to get even. I didn't end up getting this under control until just before black friday hit. But better late than never I guess. lol
Eventually I kind of just decided to go for it at 25nl, even though I could afford to play much higher, I decided it was important for me to prove that I could still win at microstakes first. And I decided to treat it more like a video game with different levels as opposed to a way to make quick easy meaningful cash. So I started off low and discovered I was still beating 25nl for a very nice rate, but was somewhat of a "rakeback pro" (without rb at the time) at 50 zone. So I got coaching and began beating 50nl. Then leveled up basically. And that's kind of the process i'm following. Staying at a level until I get a good sample in and prove that I'm winning at a nice rate. |
