I was thinking of posting this as a new thread - but i will start as a new blog entry and see if any of you guys help me out.
I'm very disillusioned at the moment with regards to my poker skills. I'm starting to think perhaps i am actually no good at poker regardless of the fact that i have been playing for almost 2 years (almost every day).
I'm in a patch at the moment of about 70K hands where i have made no money (except for rakeback and bonuses) which is obviously a little hard to deal with because during this time i have also tried to move from 25NL to 50NL.
The last few days i know i have been playing very good TAG 6 max poker (50NL) and for a few hours of work i get no results. Then last night i lose 100 at same tables (starting to get frustrated at the end). Frustrated... folded to me in the SB i raise 4x. BB re raises. I reraise with QK. BB calls. Flop is Q 7 x. I bet and get re raised big. I push and he calls. He has A7 and hits A on river. I wouldn't normally play like this and results aside it was a terrible spewy thing to do. I normally avoid sb vs bb (i have a bigger penis than you) wars....
But the main thing i noticed during last night was how i played strong draws etc and other situations where i was sure i was just getting played back at - i play sooo weak, like sickly weak tight. why would i do this with over 60 buyins for 50NL.
WHY AM I SCARED OF GETTING MY MONEY IN? HOW CAN I STOP THIS? HOW CAN I STOP PLAYING WEAK TIGHT?

not everyone likes to play back at you, if you notice someone doing it, put a tag on him and see if this continues.
Dont be paranoid either, sometimes people just continually have big hands when in a pot against you. |

Yeh i know - but please bear in mind i spent my first year mostly playing sngs - check my sharkscope! what a fucking waste of time.
Second - i play overrolled. when i was playing sngs with a 1.5k roll i was playing 3.40s
Thirdly - i work FT, have 2 kids and a wife and get to play about 1-2 hours a night TOPS. And most nights even still with 3.25k i will play 25NL (more recently forcing myself to go with 50NL) and i normally playing for 20 minutes then surf web for 10. Then play for about 45 or so then i will go to bed.
But i absolutely don't doubt i need help!! The thing is - at one point on partypoker i was doing 12ptbb/100 over 10K hands on 25NL - ever since then i am lucky to make more than 2 ptbb/100. During that run i was making 25-100 every single night for a couple of weeks but now i am lucky to make more than a couple of bucks - mostly i am down every day.
It's just fucking bullshit - why do i suck so bad... coaching ftw??  |

devon's advice is 'good', but ironic that it comes from a 12/9 nit who sucks.
Get coaching, period. You have MAJOR leaks in your game, and unless you get them properly identified you will never progress further.
What the hell is the point of your reraise with QKo? For value? If it's for value, realize that you'll never really get called by a worse hand (you were fortunate the donkey called with A7, but you still bloated a pot OOP with a marginal hand). If it's a bluff, then its not as bad, but you certainly didn't intend to do that. |
