Ok Guys - a few regulars on this site that I respect have had a little dig at me on a thread that I resurrected which I'm sure is OK in their minds - even if in my mind I believe they might have taken my comments about Anon not quite as they were intended.

I don't wanna talk about that though and they have reinforced for me my goals for the rest of the year. As most of you that know me probably already know - i am a full-time senior consultant for a telecommunications company - I travel interstate on business pretty much every second week and I also have a wife and two little boys. I don't get to play poker that often. However when I do I don't play the right limits and I don't play long enough sessions.

Loco said it perfectly:

Maybe this is why you've been stuck at the same limit for so much time with the fear of moving up, your goals are set pretty low and you are easy to impress, that's no good for a poker pla<x>yer.

I'm easily impressed by pla<x>yers on this site that have so much success but that's slightly misspent as I know how much time and effort they put into it.

I have always played with at least 40 buyins for my limit and I have never stretched myself or put myself to much of a test. I think I have always been scared of failure (?) I guess.. I mean I have grown what was ostensibly $13 to what I have now and I definately don't want to lose that however my 2.8K BR is one month's mortgage payment..

So I decided (last night - before I had Loco and Ket make comments about me - though as I said these were reinforcing) that I would take a shot at this game and see how far I can go.

Ramble ramble. Cliff notes:

I'm going to play solid sessions - at least 1.5 hours a night, 5 tables. I'm going to progress like so:

50NL till 3K
100NL till 4.5K
200NL till 8K
And then we will see where from there?

1 January 2008 I must have played 100K hands and play my best and hopefully the results will put me between my 100NL and my 200NL goal.

GL to all and GL to me! I'm going to keep this updated more often so I can track my progress!

oh. I have moved to 200nl like 1 year ago, but since then i have been cashing out constantly, not wanting to move up since i am fine with money that i am making on 200nl.
Althou from 10nl to 200nl in 1 year isn't fast, i know there are players who have done this in several month, also i have lost my whole br for at least 3-4 times when i was starting on BJ. So i really can't call my progress a great and fast. If you want to move up you have to stop cashing out + play a lot and use like 40 bi rule, being pusy does not help you to move up limits.

50NL till 3K
100NL till 4.5K
200NL till 8K
sounds fine

hihi

i dont know you but i think you can be less nitty with your bankroll. set aside ~300 or something and play 100nl. if you lose those 3 buyins, move back down to 50nl and re-grind. if you run hot/play well, you'll be at like 3.2k and will be rolled for 100nl. taking aggressive shots is a good way to increase your bankroll faster than you normally would, just remember that the games aren't much different as you move up and you need to not treat them differently. just dont forget to move back down if you lose 3 buyins.

good post trey, but that's not for everyone and there is definitely nothing wrong with not taking aggressive shots. Indeed it is the best way to progress and make a lot of money fast though

Verbloten, I am really glad that this opened your eyes, and i'm very happy to see that you are taking this more seriously than ever and I wish you the best of luck, be confident in yourself and work hard on your game.

I made a new post in the tables # thread that you should read

Loco,

I agree that it's not *necessary*, but he's been playing for a while and not moving and he's like 4 buyins away from making it to his limit. I don't see what it could hurt ya know?

No matter what you do Verbloten, good luck!
