Or is real life poker a lot more collision-free than online poker? I watched some episodes of HSP and it seems like there are so many fewer decent hands pla<x>yers get, whether pre or post flop. A casual hand like KQ vs KT on a board of Kxx is basically considered a setup, and the KT instadonates to KQ. Obviously these pla<x>yers are much better than random online pla<x>yers, but they treat a pair like a set and a straight like a straight flush, and they're right to assume so.

When I hear people complaining about online poker hands, it's usually something like a set over set, quads over boat, nutflush vs 2nd nut flush, etc. It seems like this stuff NEVER happens in real life poker. Occasionally I play in casinos, or home-games with friends, and the worst setup that occurs periodically is maybe set vs overpair or 2pair, nothing more. When I play sessions online, or look at hand histories and such, the setups are 10x more unavoidable and occur 10x more often.

I'm not suggesting that online poker is entirely "rigged," but it's a notable observation that's beginning to mesmerize me. Anyone else notice this?

they do not occur more often, you're just playing more hands

i'm sure they feel pretty real to the live player when every 6 months he gets gooped for 400x in a sick cooler

I played live poker in Vegas, fucking around on 200NL with 300$ buyin. The following two hands occured:

hand 1:
Someone from UTG raises to 17$ or so, he gets 2 callers behind him and I call with JJ. Flop comes JT9. UTG checks, UTG+1 bets like 60, UTG+2 goes allin for 250$, I obviously instacall. UTG folds (his AK, he told us after the hand). Other guy instacalls the allin too.

Turns out UTG had AK, UTG+1 had TT, UTG+2 had 78o (total monkey btw) and I didn't suckout with my top set. Monkey scoops the 1000$ pot.

hand 2:
My brother raises from MP to 10$, tight player in CO or something raises to 27$ or so, I look down at KK and make it 80$. My bro goes allin, other guy after deliberating some calls allin, and I call (probably stupid but w/e). This was in our final orbit on the last night of our vacation. Turns out my bro also had KK, and the tight idiot had AA.

If online poker is rigged, live poker is even more rigged.

well I saw the first 10 or so episodes of season 3 HSP, and the most setuppy hand I remember is 99 vs QQ on 9xx board. that's over like 1000 hands or so? every 1k online hands there's way more of that happening, and to a far greater extent

ive thought the exact same thing. it seems online if 5 players see a flop you can expect at least top pair. on high stakes poker you can expect an under pair or ace high :S

Remember all the hands negreanu got burned with last season? set under set, set over set that turned into quads, 2 pair vs straight.. you're only seeing like 15 hands an episode, you can't come to that conclusion.
