Hey all, first blog post here so I guess I could start with some background information about myself.

I've been a long time reader of teamliquid.net, as I used to play starcraft quite a bit - so that's how I found this website a few months ago and have been reading it ever since.

In the past I've also been an avid MMORPG pla<x>yer with my guild, conquest. My nickname EQ / Camelot / WoW was/is Itzlegend in case any of you knew me there. There is another poster on this site (who has a blog) with the name "Itzlegend", but that is not me. I do not have any clue who they are, or why they are using my nick (I am pretty confident that it is unique enough to not be randomly copied at this site). As soon as I asked them about it they disapeared without a trace. Maybe after a while I'll ask a mod to nuke that username and give it to me.

I started playing poker about a year ago, but only very casually. I read books and trained myself on the play money tables. After I made a couple million play money chips on pokerstars I felt I was ready to give it a go with real cash, so I started with a 50$ bankroll.

I played a little bit of ring, then played $5 SNGs for a while. Things went OK and my bank roll lasted quite a while, but eventually I didnt move down when i hit a downswing and ended up busto. Well, almost busto. I had exactly 67 cents left in my account. About 4 months ago or so I happened to open up the pokerstars software and noticed I still had 67 cents. I have since turned that 67 cents into a $1300 bankroll which I'm currently using to play at $50NL. I ran pretty hot at the 2$ tables for a little while, but after that I climbed up each level using proper bankroll management (always 10+ buyins) and promptly dropped back down when needed.

And that brings us to October. So far I feel like I've been playing pretty solid TAG poker, unfortunately I've recently been a consistent loser when the money goes in and have not won nearly my share of equity in all in situations the past 2 weeks.

Despite being down over 7.5 buyins in all in equity, I'm still at 1.7 BB/100 for the month, so I'm pleased with my results.

That's just the 190 hands where i've gotten all in - out of ~30k hands.

I thought about giving FTP or one of the other sites a try for the rakeback, but I really like the software at pokerstars and im more interested in learning over profit anyways.

Also my goal very soon is to get and keep platinum star, and according to my basic calculations, if you purchase the $650 cash bonuses it is equivilent (at my stakes, full ring) to roughly 20% rakeback. If you use gift certificates instead it seems to be equivilent to around 23 or 24% rakeback. Not quite as nice as 27% rakeback, but I think the small hit is worth it for the software and game selection. Unless the games are much softer elsewhere that is... but I don't have any experience playing anywhere else.

How many hands a month would you need to get platinum?

About 40k. Kinda tough to get that many hands in while working full time as well though... probably have to pull some long weekends to maintain that. Or just 8 table for a small drop in bb/100. I haven't done that since I went back into my hand history a while ago and noticed i folded the nut straight to a rediculous overbet once, heh. Didnt even notice I had it at all.
