Okay. Now I have just sepent some time reading other peoples blogs, and I think it is time i start my own.
I have been playing poker for about 2 and a half years. The problem is that I have never been able to build a bankroll through continuos solid play. I usually end up blowing multiple buy ins from some bad beats which are then followed by marginal situations which are relatively easy folds when i reflect. Then if i continue to play I will steam and move up stakes and lose even more, until all i have is gone. I dont know what I can do to make myself a profitable online player. 25NL is just too boring and the seems pointless. 50NL is where I play most of my hands and if i can improve my play I think I can be profitable, but the grind just seems so unapealling.
100NL is what suits me & ideally if i could somehow discipline myself to play shorter sessions and play less hours per week it would be great. I just don't know IF i can do this.
I also play live full ring $2/3 blinds at my local casino. I find that I do really well because I want to show people I am a good player and I play very tight. Mind you, my online play has been about 22/13, but after speaking to a friend i have tried to reduce it to about 14/12, no limping & being very aggressive PF.
I guess I am just lost right now & fed up with losing online. Do i just call it quits and continue playing live? Do I recognise that there is a pattern reoccuring, which is i buy in, do well - make profit, then play ultra long sessions, and end up donking money away.
I know how i should be playing, but I don't know if i have the discipline to play like this online, as I have never proven myself online as i have live. Mind you, live is so much easier to win big pots etc.
Arghhh. Another thing is.. i have finished study and want to begin a career & dont have the time to be grinding for hours online.. it has been making my quality of life suffer & i am lucky to still have the job i worked while i studied as the money is quite good and hours really suit part time poker.
If i can limit myself to 2 night at the casino, i'd be really pleased, and I know I can make $200-$400 on average a week here, nothing much - but socially enjoyable as well as the game i love.
But once i throw online into the mix, i am unsure how i will go... Am I destined for failure? Should i just go with my recognition of the fact that me even writing all of this shows just how likely i am to fail?
I feel like i am so close to being a profitable player online, yet disciplinary issues have me so far and possibly doomed for failure. Everytime I have a monster I dont get paid off, im too aggressive with AA/KK PF, and i am committing too many chips with TPPK. I could make this post so long.... but what will it really achieve.
At the moment I am stumpped for ideas and will probably continue playing 2/3NL at the cas live & might deposit to play 50NL in the future.
I have been playing on PS/ Interpoker and just signed to pacific recently.
Your input / ideas / concerns (lol) / feedback are valued and will be considered with attention and thought.
Kind regards
& looking forward to seeing where things lead from here on in 2008. Peace.

There's no magical formulae, start from abc play solid poker and put in lot of hours at nl25 until you have enough for nl50 and go on. Discipline and patience are what you're lacking, there's no shortcut whatsoever, sorry. |
