Well i've slowly built some cash up online and i have recently decided to cash out most of it.
I'm buying a new computer!! And not really bothered with poker much now anyway - i'll try rebuild at 25NL when i feel like playing some poker - probably about the same number of hands as I average at the moment - about 500 hands a week.
I've set a budget of AUS$3500 for my new computer. I think I can get what I want and have enough left over to by some games like COD4, Crysis and UT3. Should be good.
Here are my new machine specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
2 x 74GB Western Digital RAPTOR HDD in RAID 0
500GB Seagate SATA HDD
Creative Audigy Sound
NVIDIA 8800GTX 768MB Vid Card
Antec "Nine Hundred" Case
750W Power Supply
22" Samsung 226BW LCD Monitor
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Logitech X530 5.1 Speakers
I can't fucking wait!! What you guys think of the machine specs? Anyone got any suggestion please let me know gonna order one in the couple of days

Definitely get a quadcore if you're spending that much. Also I'd go with an ATI 3870 for a card as it out performs the 8800 Ultra and is much cheaper. You can get two for just over the price of one 8800 Ultra and SLI them. |

Quad cores are overkill right now since no program can use all four cores effectively. The 8400 is much better for almost all applications.
Btw nice system although I would get SLI 8800GT's over a 8800GTX they are about the same price but SLI 8800GT's would be a bit faster. |

E8400 is one hell of a processor, don't listen to anyone here who says otherwise. I'd take the E8400 over the Q6600 any day and I have a QX9650 so I know the advantages of both quad core and 45nm technology, especially if you are going to overclock it (as you should, if you don't you don't deserve such a fine piece of engineering) You didn't mention the motherboard, I would recommend you to get the Asus Maximus Formula or the eVGA or XFX 780i nforce if you plan to use SLi. I wouln't buy a GTX if I were you, the new GTS 512mb is way better value, and unless you play on playing ultra high resolution the added memory of the gtx is not going to help you in gaming, trust me.
Great case you have there I have the same and good choice getting 2 raptors. Would be nice knowing the brand of the memory and PSU.
I have the G15 2nd gen keyboard and it's very comfortable and nice. |

I am not much for getting a quad core since for most people there is nothing they do where a higher-clocked dual core will not outperform a lower-clocked quad core. E8400 is a great chip and will overclock really nicely if you are into that.
Also lol at the guy who said ATI 3870 outperforms the GTX. It's not even close. |

also the new ATI 3870 x2 are the best cards on the market right now (slightly better than 8800 ultras but lot less expensive) but nvidia will come out soon with better i'm sure of it. if your in a hurry though for the comp i'd say evga/bfg/xfx 8800GTS 512mb or the ati 3870 x2.
oh and the evGA version of the 8800gts 512mb comes with crysis so you'd save that $50 right there that's what I did. |

oh and if you want to treat yourself nicely, buy the logitech z-5500 instead of the z-530.. its fucking.... orgasmic.. i've owned both of them and i would never change these speakers they are a gift from god and the best thing about my whole setup imo....but then again i use them for my whole home entertainment system so if your only going to use speakers for gaming and the occasional music its prob not worth it even tho i'd buy them anyway. |

Isn't spending 3.5k AUD overkill?
I think you can make a very nice build for 2.5k or so.

Expensive comps are a waste of money. My first ever comp was $3k+, and every since then i just get a decent cheap system for $1k which are 5-20x better then the old one anyway.
buy the bare minimum comp, with good speakers, good ram, and a good monitor, save yourself $2k. then upgrade it later on.
A 16:10 monitor with the same diagonal size as a 4:3 monitor has 6.8% less area. |

q6600 > e8400 for games like crysis, cod4 and alot of the next-gen engines coming out. trust me ive personally tested it.
two 8800gt's safely overclocked will wreck that single card and be about the same price. you'll probably have wished you got better ram if you are going to overclock your fsb, but w/e
grats though, should be cool. and wtf 3.5k aud? im sure mine will benchmark close to yours stock and it cost me 850$US for everything |

FOUR GB OF RAM.
Everything else is fine, just make sure to install an x64 OS (XP Pro x64 would be best, or Vista Ultimate x64). |
