First 10K hands

I'm shocked. I've actually made it through my first 10K hands, and when you have two jobs, two pets, several projects, a small garden and a wife competing for time and attention, that's not easy to do. I can't believe it took me more than a month to play what Kimseongchan apparently plays in a day. It's not a huge number of hands, to be sure, but it's further than I expected to get. I used to have a student whom I praised lavishly for getting 7/20 for his comprehension - a vast improvement on the 3/20 he usually got. Now I know how he felt.

Half of me didn't expect to make it this far, the other half expected that I'd be bankrupt if I did. To my surprise, I've actually made a modest profit. It's probably a result of the small sample size, though. I'm quite sure it will vanish in the next 10K hands.

I only have 2 main goals for my next 10K hands: learn to play AKo, JJ and TT properly (I'm making losses on those, which I shouldn't) and learn when to fold nice hands like AA when someone's line ought to tell me he has a straight or something.

It's a small sample size and I'm still stumbling along, but... do any stats jump out?

And, of course, the mandatory graph:

On another note, I mentioned to a friend that I was playing online poker. "That's boring," she responded. "I like to play in a casino. I don't care about winning. I give myself 200 dollars each time to play blackjack and just walk away when it's gone. I just want to have fun."

"I want to have fun too," I said, mystified, "but surely it's only fun when you're winning, right?"

you should openraise more preflop
AQs+ TT+ from first 3 positions
AJs+ 88+ from next 3 pos
and a wide range of hands from the button !

post some hands where you lose with TT/JJ/AK and we can help you further.

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN

i'd like to comment on something you wrote in the first post

"I am not a great risk taker. Betting high does not come naturally to me."

It isn't natural for anyone to bet high without spewing. By making the right decisions and having good betsizing (and understanding when others bet) is where you make money in this game. Being as tight as you are you should never bet less than 60% of the pot.
Always protect your pair hands on the turn, don't give up betting.
most midstakes regulars have an agression factor of around 3.5 and they play almost twice the hands you do.

ugh and folding AA is out of the question =D

Your PFR is a bit low, and your river aggression factor is really low. Kinda the same with the turn, you check way too often, it's only 2NL, just bet bet bet, no need to play fancy here. Don't fold AA, sometimes you'll get sucked out, but most of the time they show up with crap.

This is from my experience at 2NL - 40k hands, win rate of 10.66 PTBB/100. Oh and if you play at stars, don't buy in full, just buy in short. Playing deep stacked at 2NL just makes it more complex.

This is something I never really considered... but it is a very nice life and thank you for pointing out what I missed I guess I don't often stop to consider what's going right rather than wrong =)

I've posted a couple of JJ hands already and will continue to do so. I'll also take the advice on what to raise preflop and the river aggression has been something I've been working on.

Part of my problem with AK might be cbetting... I always cbet between 3/4 and pot after my raise if it's checked to me on the flop. I also always cbet the same amount if I'm HU on the flop. Should I be cbetting oop on the flop in a multiway pot as well?

Oh... that means I've been too tight in early and mid position. Thanks! I raise all pairs and KJs+ from the button. And if everyone folds to me and I'm on the button on some tables I raise with any hands to try and steal the blinds. Not sure if that's the right thing to do.
