Efficiency is an idea I've been dissecting for a long time. I feel in a constant battle against time to accomplish something, to learn, to achieve. Is efficiency healthy? All things in life require balance, so efficiency must as well, and thus productivity must be sacrificed for well-being and mental clarity.

I have proposed experiments for studying efficiency. For example, I desire to take a year off after CEGEP and attempt self-education for a year. However, much discipline is required to make the time worthwhile, and not waste it away. I need to test such an experiment this summer, to make sure I will not waste a year of my life stumbling around the world, travelling and seeing much, but learning only that I know nothing.

The things that currently interest me are literature, music, poker, my lovely girlfriend, and pot. I don't know whether it is safe to list pot as an interest, but let me analyse the idea more clearly...

I have been smoking pot for almost two years now, but only in the past months have I been smoking almost daily. Like all things, pot can be abused, but I still believe it is a relatively safe drug.I generally don't notice the side-effects, because during the school year I am a productive person, but this summer, pot has slowed me down. I rarely exercise anymore, I don't do much in a day, and my of my goals for the summer remain untouched. Therefore, it is necessary for me to take a step back and clear my mind.

This Sunday, I will quit pot for a week. I am going to make myself a schedule for every day, which includes poker, reading, exercising, and relaxing. I need to focus myself on achieving something, or otherwise, I will feel worthless in mid-August.

However, I do not think pot affects poker in a strictly negative way. I think there are lots of benefits to playing poker high; I've attempted it myself, at 1/2 FR while 24-tabling. Results vary - it is sometimes extremely profitable, as it allows for tiltless, unwavering, observative and careful play. Pot is affecting my life in a negative way in that I am unable to do much throughout most of the day since I just sleep for half of it. What would be interesting, however, is to smoke only when I play poker.

There are lots of jumbled thoughts here. A small update on how I'm doing: I haven't made any FTs or gotten 1st in any big tournaments yet, but I busted pretty deep in the 40k GTD today (45th), so I feel I'll get there by the end of the month.

Further, I'm getting my monitor tomorrow, and I'll post pictures of my setup and my luckbox (a little stuffed animal I got for my girlfriend, whom we have originally dubbed Penguin [he is a penguin]). It has helped my suck out massively in today's tournament, and I ever make a FT, he'll be with me.

Interesting.

About pot, I have been smoking for a while, incorrectly!

But recentally a mentor of mine has taught me how to use it preferabally. It requires that you choose your activities before actually smoking. The act of smoking releases dopamine in your brain, and you result to having a pleasurful feeling. Applying this pleasure to maximize your productivity is what I have been expiermenting with. If you smoke and then involve yourself in an activitiy such as watching a movie or playing video games you will become addicited to smoking + and doing this activitiy. Just try to focus your attention on doing something productive after smoking or to get you more invovled in an activity you dont normally participate in.
