I don't tend to try and read opponents too much. I keep an eye out for general tendencies (opening hands, 3 betting hands etc), but I'm usually a guy who just tries to get money in with the nuts, and raise strong openers. Well, I finally got what I thought was my first genuine read on a player, and decided to hero call because of it... and I get a face full of variance. Oh well.

Also I realize preflop was light; the limping was getting ridiculous... but I don't love A5s. Should have raised more (not that that would have changed anything here).
Apologies for the bad beat post, but I really have never called all in with middle pair in my life.

Yeah I'd make it a bit bigger preflop, but wtih a suited ace it's not the end of the world if it ends up multiway.
Only thing is that once you raise his flop donk you should snapcall his allin cause otherwise you shouldn't have raised =P
But v nice call actually. |

Noob thoughts:
i really think that trying to read players at these stakes will lead to disastrous results. Players here are just so unpredictable, and even if someone seems to be playing mechanically one way, oftentimes cant keep that mechanics for prolonged periods of time and start playing completely random.
Secondly, while calling with middle pair with a read like that is fine imo, 5 is just such a terrible pair. Youre putting him on gutshot or flush draw, and thats like what, 1 in 4? plus like any two cards he has would be overs.
edit: He woulda been a 55% favorite with a flush draw to be exact.
Plus people like that you can usually take money from at any point youre really ahead. |

The range I worked out real quickly was basically 40fd/50air/10i'mfuckedbecauseofcombodrawssetsorajack. I obviously would like a better spot, but I honestly thought I was over 50 against his range and that's all I needed to call a raised pot.

This is actually the best thing that can happen to you.
Turn off your fancy play syndrom at 10nl. |

True, still pretty nice to get some confidence in yourself knowing you can read people or whatever since you was right on with the call there. |

well he was putting his opponent on 50% air, however in this situation it will almost never be air, and when it is air its gonna be overs, which doesnt really help that much. |
