It seems McCain is happy to keep launching the smear attacks with lies and misrepresentations to try and paint Obama as a "Tax and Spend Liberal", just like all Republican's have done to their Dem opponents in the past. Sadly people are often too lazy, ignorant or stupid to realize that it's a bunch of BS, so they get scared thinking "I can't afford higher taxes, fuck obama!" and they vote Republican. But for the VAST MAJORITY of American's, if they just bothered to do some research they'd find that they're going to save more money in Obama's tax plan than they will under McCain's. It's all quite maddening.
So here is the latest McCain ad with some fact checking for you guys to see.
McCain ad with lies about taxes:

Fact Check:

Another Fact Check:
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/more_tax_deceptions.html
| McCain released three new ads with multiple false and misleading claims about Obama's tax proposals.
* A TV spot claims Obama once voted for a tax increase "on people making just $42,000 a year." That's true for a single taxpayer, who would have seen a tax increase of $15 for the year – if the measure had been enacted. But the ad shows a woman with two children, and as a single mother, she would not have been affected unless she made more than $62,150. The increase that Obama once supported as part of a Democratic budget bill is not part of his current tax plan anyway.
* A Spanish-language radio ad claims the measure Obama supported would have raised taxes on "families" making $42,000, which is simply false. Even a single mother with one child would have been able to make $58,650 without being affected. A family of four with income up to $90,000 would not have been affected.
* The TV ad claims in a graphic that Obama would "raise taxes on middle class." In fact, Obama's plan promises cuts for middle-income taxpayers and would increase rates only for persons with family incomes above $250,000 or with individual incomes above $200,000.
* The radio ad claims Obama would increase taxes "on the sale of your home." In fact, home-sale profits of up to $500,000 per couple would continue to be exempt from capital gains taxes. Very few sales would see an increase under Obama's proposal to raise the capital gains rate.
* A second radio ad, in English, says, "Obama has a history of raising taxes" on middle-class Americans. But that's false. It refers to a vote that did not actually result in a tax increase and could not have done so.
These ads continue what's become a pattern of misrepresentation by the McCain campaign about his opponent's tax proposals.
Update, Aug. 12: The tax falsehoods continued with the release of a McCain Web ad Aug. 11 claiming that the "perks" of joining the Obama "fan club" include "a tax incease for everyone earning more than $42,000 a year." |

Why aren't you posting the dozens of factcheck articles that show obama does the exact same shit? ***WELCOME TO PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS***???
I hope you're getting paid for this rediculous campaining on LP.net because you sure look like a huge douchebag. Have an original thought for once in your life.
I'm not a huge fan of mccain either, but come on this obama fanboi shit went out of style months ago. He's a neive politcal newbie with extremely standard left wing / democratic views.
And LOL at that rediculous tax schedule of obamas posted by k3rn3l |

Chill shaun, we like each other - at least we were always helpful to each other in terms of poker!
I'm volunteering lots of time to the Obama campaign (note volunteer, NOT PAID) cause I truly believe he is the best choice between the 2. Is he perfect? Obviously not. I've disagreed with him at times. But I disagree with McCain a hell of a lot more. And I read factcheck.org regularly and I think it's a pretty good non partisan source. From what I've seen there Obama does mislead sometimes, but I haven't seen him flat out lie like McCain does so often.
Do you really believe that I'm wrong about the taxes? I never said that the rich are gonna get tax cuts - over $250k a yr you'll get a tax increase, but if you make like $255k a yr you're not gonna have a huge increase at all. If you make less than 603k a yr your income tax only goes up $12! You gotta be banking to get any sort of noticeable increase under his plan, which is why I say that the vast majority of American's do better under Obama.
btw I found this on snopes for how income taxes are affected, which seems similar to the pic posted above.

Yes, we disagree on taxes.
I think reducing 99% of americans taxes and shifting the burden to the top 1% (which already pay 40% of income taxes) is irresponsible and nothing more than a very standard democratic ploy to buy votes.
Here are some problems with it:
- Our current tax system is EXTREMELY progressive already. Half the working people in the country already pay virtualy zero income taxes, increasing that pool of people even further is pretty wacky. How much further can we go?
- There is no chance that that top 1% will actually end up paying that extra 10% in taxes, that's just rediculous. Their wages will simply go up to compensate and the rest of us will pay their new taxes through higher priced goods/services.
Lower taxes are definately my biggest issue, but they have to be lower for *everyone*, and they need to be paired with large cuts to government spending. Unfortunately neither candidate nor party will be pushing for that any time soon because trying to cut anything is just votes down the drain.
--
The bottom line is if you want to lower the tax burden on the tax paying public (to help the economy), you must lower taxes on the rich, because they are the primary source of tax dollars. Thus while the mccain plan above actually is a tax cut, the obama plan is a flat out redistribution of weath (socialism).
Leave it to liberals to package yet another socialist redistribution of weath as a tax cut |

This has nothing in particular to do with this blog, just your blogging habits in general, but I think you should definitely give this a read:

And yea sorry for being such a dick in my first post. I started a reply to most of your blogs recently and have ended up deleting them each time because I didnt have time to express my thoughts so I guess I had some built up frustration.
I am pro small-government / low-taxes / free-markets and it feels like everyone at LP are the exact opposite. So while I love this community when it comes to poker and in general everything BUT politics... I dunno maybe I should just go back to ignoring all the off topic threads. I guess a certain well known LP member wishing for the USA to get nuked (and only half kidding?) along with several people agreeing just really ticked me off and it showed in that post. |

That's cool, no biggie. I was just shocked cause I always had you pegged as a really chill guy, so when you made such a heated post my reaction was "WTF this does not compute!"
Anyway, here we can agree to disagree. I personally find this to be an improvement over the current system, and my main argument was that if you want lower taxes most likely you'll get em under Obama, unless you're banking. It seems like you aren't disagreeing with that, you just don't like the overall approach to taxes that either candidate is taking. So we're not disagreeing about whether Obama gives tax cuts to more people. You just think the overall tax plan is socialist and you disagree with the strategy. I haven't formulated a strong argument against what you feel cause I haven't actually heard anyone make the points you have yet. Once I get time to do some research and think about it I'll come back at ya with a reasoned argument, or maybe I'll end up agreeing, who knows =) |
