I decided to start playing Poker, but I've got a few questions.
I've browsed this website for practically, three hours last night just reading through whatever I stumbled across and was wondering if there is a lingo list, because even when reading the Rekrul interview I didn't understand half of what he was saying. So far I think it is safe to say NL is No Limit. But that is all I know at the moment I think.
Also, I'm just a bit confused on Poker Stars. Is it legal (or doable) to play at the age of 18 in the United States? I watched the Poker Stars video on the website and it showed how to create an account, and it had a check box that said "Yes I am 18 or older" so I assumed that was correct? I remember some law being passed though that stopped you from depositing cash in the United States on gambling websites? Is this true? Or am I a bit misguided?
And last but not least, I turn 18 this December actually, and was wondering what is a good software to replicate Poker Stars (or any professional poker software) that is free? I know there is Yahoo, AOL, Facebook poker, and I'm not sure what I should be practicing to be getting the closest experience I can to Poker Stars. Is Texas Hold 'Em the standard poker being played on Poker Stars? Or is there multiple types that you can play? Which should I be practicing first?
Sorry if this is a hassle, but any response will be appreciated.

u can try http://archives1.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Number=5988672 for lingos & abbreviations, twoplustwo is also a good poker place along with lp. You can play at 18 or 21 depending on states, just not deposit. Personally I grinded play money till 1 million and sold for $10 and started from there |

Here is the LP glossary: http://liquidpoker.net/glossary/
It really doesn't matter if you are below 18, Pokerstars will never know. Also Pokerstars has a play money tables where you can just practice and learn the very basics of the game. Pokerstars.net is the completely playmoney version of pokerstars.com
Pokerstars has a bunch of different types of poker, but almost everyone on LP will tell you to start with NL Holdem, which you should definitely do. Once you are amazing at holdem you can explore other types
As far as depositing goes, VISA gift cards work fine for small amounts, and pokerstars gives you a monetary bonus for depositing on their site for the first time. |

you dont need to 'replicate' pokerstars, you can use playmoney on every real pokersite before you deposit |

They require a phone number for deposits on Poker Stars.
Do they really call you? |

Ah, thanks for all the replies!
I made an account with my fathers information until I turn 18. He will play on it too.
For now I'm just using play money, but it is all good for now, thanks everyone. |

hit 1 mil and sell for $10. You'll be playing real poker real soon. Just wait until you have KK or AA and go all-in. that's all you have to do at playmoney to win. |

Do people really buy it for $10 dollars or is it like Poker Stars will deposit $10 in exchange for a million in play money?
I just hit 5,000 my first night, I doubt that is a huge accomplishment but it feels good nonetheless. |
