Most of last year I was playing 3/6 and taking shots at 5/10, but at the end of the year I had a downswing and dropped down to 2/4 to recover. I did really well from the beginning, beating it for over 5bbs/100 since I moved down and decided I would just stay because I can make a very good living and it's lower variance and stress. I know all the regs and I just feel really confident and comfortable at this level. But I've seen a few players spring past me in the last year including wobbly, Babs and Doomer among others, and im kind of jealous. It was exciting playing 5/10, clicking the high stakes tab on pokerstars and winning $1000+ in one hand, and taking a hard look at 10/20 when I saw a good game running although I never played. So, I can continue grinding out a very good, comfortable, safe living or I could move up and try to really make a ton of money. I always laugh at the people who don't move up from .5/1 or 1/2 and that's probably how I look to the 5/10 people. I think I'm going to move back up to 3/6 at the end of the month assuming I have a good month. I've been playing a lot more 6max and I think that should help me because good full ring games are almost non-existent once you get past 3/6.
I really need to conquer my laziness and complacency, I get disgusted with myself for not playing more because I'm leaving so much money on the tables. I used to sit on my computer and play for 10-12 hours every day, partly because I loved poker (not as much as Loco though) and partly because I needed the money to pay my bills. Fear of losing your house and having your electricity turned off is a great motivator. Lately though I can't stand to play more than 2 hours at a time, so I've started playing one 2 hour session in the morning and one 2 hour session in the evening. I've always had this idea in my head that the games were really tough in the mornings but that's just not the case. There are fewer games running but it's still very profitable. I think the fish:shark ratio may be even better in the mornings.
I moved at the beginning of august. I lived in a duplex and was having a lot of problems with the guy who lived above me, so I decided to just get a whole house to myself. It costs $400 more a month but it's well worth it to have a nice quiet place to live. It's kind of a woodsy area and there is a family of deer that live nearby and often come to my yard to eat from the various fruit trees in the yard, so that's pretty cool.
I'll leave you with this

Playing 10-12 hrs/day is far from healthy... averaging 4 hours seems much better imo.

I can't really seem to play more then like a couple of hours/day either. Although, I'm studying full time to, which is nice to blame this on.
Deer is healthy to eat. And they're nice to look at. Dilemma. |

Having deer live nearby sounds serene. I think this would increase my winrate significantly
Yugless you should be able to beat 3/6 no prob. As for 5/10 I think it's hard to sustain a winrate better than 2ptbb just because 8/9 players on each table are regs and it comes with sick variance and its often just not worth it |

qft....
5/10 isnt worth it unless u reallllly put in some thought in your game.. u simply can't just grind.
I've decided to give 5/10 a break, because i really want SNE this year and next year i will prob play less table and be 5/10+
gl though! |
