Long time no post. Basically decided to start blogging again just because it gives me some sort of motivation to keep going on with what i've been doing in poker. Basically i took a long break from online poker and just stuck with live for a bit, did alright netting maybe +1.8k or so @ 1/2 over 5-6 sessions (i dont play for longer than 3-4 hours a time) before i got run over in a huge session when random drunkie gamblers sat down with the max 500$ buy in and were raising blind preflop to 200$ and such. I was sitting with a pretty 800$ castle in 5$ chips (so it looked like i had alot D; ) while these azns were tossing around 25$ green chips like it was nothing (they were 5/10 regs from a big casino out of town). OBV i was a fucking idiot and decided to stick around and "NIT IT UP" , which as we all know in the cas when you're seeing 15-20 hands an hour max wasn't all that great an idea. Anyway, i ended up nitting it up for an hour before snap shoving over some guy's blind 200$ raise with 1010, he calls with 68o and flops a straight and the stack i worked for the entire night was vaporized. A 500$ profit night gone in the blink of an eye because i decided to get cute and not rely on skill or experience, but on complete and total luck. I was pretty upset with myself and went home angry that I should have just got up and left when i had the chance, and should not have stayed and gamble with the degens :<
So anyway i got home and deposited 300$ online just to mess around. I started off at 10-12 Tabling 25nl FR and realized that i had some brutal leaks from trying to outplay everyone. The first 20k hands were a breakeven mess, me just spewing stupid double barrels and semi bluffing draws out of position, and continuing once more even when i missed my draws. Totally forgetting that at these stakes, multi-barreling really isn't all that necessary with a bluff. After grabbing HEM3 and sitting down ad reviewing the 20k hands i played, i found that major leaks i had and fixed it. It was ALOT less fun being able to do "fun" moves and stuff at the tables, but hte fact that i was lowering my variance with this new playstyle meant the monies was flowing, and it did
I ended up moving up to 50nl in the next 18k hands or so (no i didnt do all of this in one day) and my first 12k hands were easy peasy. Was cruising at +10 BI's and generally feeling no stress - i had played tonnes at 50nl and just didn't feel bad or intimidated by anyone at all.
Last night i played my first big losing session in a long long time, alot of bad luck, a little bit of fatigue, and i dropped 5 BI's or so in 1500 hands. (Standard FR suckouts of course, i don't need to post bad beats here because they really dont help anything). Was kind of painful having to lose the BI's in the way i did, i wouldnt have minded if they were AAvKK situations, but they were mostly all postflop stacks; which led me to review my hands for a long time before i came to the conclusion that there was nothing i could do, opponents caught the right cards on the right streets - standard
anyway, that's basically how online has been atm, i'm sitting around 1200$ from my initial 300$ deposit a few weeks ago. No big deal, chump change but I really want to see how far i can take this before school starts and my poker time is drastically shortened. 3 weeks to get to 100nl reg status doable? Maybe, I figure i'll need around 2.3-2.5k~ or so before i start taking 1-2 BI shots at 100nl.
20 BI's in 2-3 weeks is totally doable , goggogogogogogo

Um, why don't you like playing in games where people are raising to 100BB blind? I'd be ecstatic to be sitting in that game and I'd be there as long as the game was that good. Don't be results oriented just because you got it in good and lost a big stack. I have my own stories about that kind of shit live (see blog). |
