So yesterday while at work i got to thinking about the economy and poker. Now before i begin, i would like to tell everyone that i am very ignorant to this whole subject. All i know is that the economy is SHIT right now, and banks/insurance companies/housing is hitting the fan right now. I was reading up on it when i found a yahoo headline that said
"FDIC reports low on funds"
So i do know that an individual account is insured up to $100,000. Right now the FDIC is reporting they have $50 billion. They need over 1 Trillion dollars. They were saying they need to take out a loan from the government. Thats ATLEAST $950,000,000,000.
I know for a fact that they don't have the money. So a sortage in the FDIC means that when banks fail, and they don't have money, the "safety net" of the FDIC is failing as well. So if i can't get my money from the bank, i can't get money from the FDIC, that means there's no more money for me.

What i really wanted to touch up on in this post is this...I've never cashed out, i don't know what happens when you do. My buddy told me that on PS when you cash out you get a check from some bank in Atlanta....My thinking is, what if this bank doesn't have any money?? You can't cashout your roll, right?? So what happens when #1. my savings are gone #2. my checking is gone #3 my 300 roll on PS is gone???

A) Can #3, my roll, disappear?
B) Should i take all monies out of all account and just do it by cash??

Thoughts and opinions and answers on the BR thinking...

this is what is known as panic, you gotta learn to chill, everything will work itself out

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same

don't want this to sound offensive but why worry about a $300 roll? it's the nosebleed stakes guys who should be worrying.

Well first of all you seem to have no clue where your money is actually coming from. Your PS account is I believe a bank account at one of the major U.K. banks. Most likely no problems will come of it. I really hate "the sky is falling" kind of posts when you clearly don't have any information about the subject. Just google some economist articles and actually read in depth about it which might help you understand whats going on a lot better. Panic is useless, much better to simply educate yourself and then take the correct actions to take care of yourself.

if FDIC fails and depositors lose their money I guarantee you there will be a lot more to worry about in this world that the money that you lose. Sure it may be 100% to you but think about the big picture, it would literally mean an end to the world as we know it. We are headed towards a depression but that doesn't mean that consumer banks are going to fail. It is still a very very unlikely possibility and you shouldn't be wasting your time worrying about it.

And if you're thinking about just sitting on cash, then lemme tell you something, if FDIC fails then that cash would be almost worthless too. If you're that concerned about doomsday then just take everything you have and sit on gold i guess.

but then what if a meteor hits earth and mankind is wiped out then gold will be worthless too.

good point. I think everyone should withdraw all their money, and buy lots of booze, condoms and fast cars

and eat at bag's restaurant on the weekends where he would obviously provide free onion rings. good for the economy imo

btw, i can't believe i'm actually writing in 84o's blog in a civil tone, wtf is going on here

Pokerstars is rather more reliable than the average bank. You're safer keeping it in there. Also cashing out is retarded because what the Government will most likely resort to is printing a lot of money. It's a stealth tax, it devalues the cash of everyone else along with assets which have fixed cash values, and gives the Government cash equal to all the devaluement. So if you're serious about trying to drop out of the economic system until better days you want to invest in assests which have stable values.
